Tonight I realised

I care more about Shane McMahon than I do about ECW, and most of the Raw and Smackdown Rosters.

This is not good, people.

“There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.”

If Shane gets to direct the direction of the WWE once Vince dies, then wrestling will be the best its been in years.

Of course Shane will be named Head of Janitor Relations by Stephanie and Hunter.

I'm intrigued by the Backlash match. Not for Umaga or Vince, but for Shane. He will no doubt steal the match.

Also, he talks pretty well and is decent in the ring for the style he does (I'd compare it to Mikey Whipwreck almost). He could have made a damn fine mid carder (if he wasn't a McMahon) or a long-term manager.

I like Shane McMahon. The match at Backlash sounds shitty (especially if Lashley wins), but Shane could make it pretty fun for a while.

I'm a big fan of Shane McMahon as a performer, but I cannot think of anything to corroborate your statement. Shane has not proven any booking aptitude nor ever been in a position to suggest that wrestling will creatively be at it's "best in years" should he be at the helm.

I'm not knocking the guy, you may well be right, I just don't see what evidence you could have that suggests this would be the case. Seems a bit random, that's all, seeing as his creative input to date in WWE has been limited to minimal at best.

I've been thinking of starting a thread about the "Shane-O-Marks" of the world, namely, exactly why is this guy so popular? Is it the bumps or what? Is it the fact that people want to find someone to like as much as they dislike Vince and Stephanie?

It's true of all the McMahons, including Hunter.

So if they're gone for a month, people like them. If they're gone for six months, people like them a lot. If they're gone a year, people really REALLY like them. If they're gone forever, just imagine how beloved they will be.

The reason people like Shane is because he is a great performer. For a non-wrestler, he has had some great matches. He is a fantastic mic worker, can carry an angle or storyline with ease, can get those associated with him over (just look at Test in 1999....you looking? is it 2000 yet? Okay, then look away again), is a great all-rounder, is equally effective as a heel or a face and to my knowledge has never been knocked as a guy to throw his obviously heavy political weight around backstage.

In fact, my main and only criticism of Shane is his constant craving to look like a genuine tough guy... no selling injuries the day after a big match, being booked to appear on the same level as guys like Kane when he is only a part-timer, refusing to show fear towards babyface wrestlers (such as Lashley last Monday, for example) who within the realms of kayfabe would and should be able to tear him apart.

If I were booking (and realistically booking, not fantastically pushing the guys the WWE claims they have "nothing for"), Shane McMahon would win the ECW World Title at Backlash. Umaga is already Intercontinental Champion, and Vince is the lesser of the McMahons when it comes to workrate (oh dear, I'm using wrestling terminology to discuss the McMahons now), and he hasn't held a World Title previously, unlike Vince. I think one throw-away World Title reign apiece would be more fitting.

I'd then have Shane McMahon appear on ECW as their authority figure, and he can avoid Lashley for a few weeks, making him go through the New Breed a few times. Then we eventually get Shane McMahon vs. Bobby Lashley, where Lashley tears Shane apart to win back his ECW Title.

Nah WWE is big on protecting Lashley right now. I was surprised at how over Lashley was on Raw... the push is actually working. But WWE will shoot themselves in the foot if they push him as hard as they have pushed Cena. If you know Lashley will always defy the odds and win, he goes from the underdog to the favourite. That's when the crowd will turn on him, and WWE will undo all the good work they have done in surprisingly getting Lashley over.

But I see Lashley winning at Backlash.

Oh, Lashley will definitely win at Backlash, but I just don't think he should. Supermen are not as likeable as the WWE likes to think.
