removing partitions?
Right so I have an off the self HP m7199a Media Centre PC.

It came with a partition called HP Recovery (D: ) drive. It is using up 6.95 GB of my total disk space. A quick check shows that it is over 80% full (it has 1.09GB free space).

Right, so what the fuck is this for, why is it using up my valuable memory space, what the fuck is in there anyway, and can I get rid of it and not fuck up my PC?

I may be wrong, but I believe its used to backing up critical files/information in the case your computer blows up, I think my comp tech teacher mentioning that in partitioned drives, only the partition that has the problem will be affected, whilst the other partition remains unaffected and retrievable.

If its not using up a hell of alot of storage space, I would suggest keeping it.

Oh and to remove it, use the boot disc from your windows, there will be an option to delete partition

They no longer give you recovery discs, only a partition to use in case you want to reformat.

You don't get Window's discs anymore, that's what the partition is for.

Yeah, basically just a recovery disc imaged to your hard drive. It's alright to remove if you want but it's probably safer to leave it on there in case you do need to do a recovery of any kind.

Yeah, it's the partition for restoring your PC to factory. I wouldn't remove it, cause sometimes the boot sector is in that partition, and then it points to your windows partition.
Unless, you're doing a fresh install of windows from an XP CD, rather than the restore CDs. Then you can delete all partitions and create a fresh one to install windows on. But you'll lose your unbackedup data, of course. Help?

I would recommend a search of that partition for a file/whatever, of something called

Install Windows
Install Fresh Version of Windows

Or something along those lines, If you find that tell me. But dont do anything unless checking with me, or even better BC.

I am not claiming to be as computer savvy as you BC, I know my way around them, and do slight repairs, but you lost me otherwise.

Find a Torrent with an XP Pro disk and just use any Key you can find. It'll work.
