Create an All-Time Team (ver. 2)
I did this topic a few years ago...it was pretty fun. Gonna do it again. Basically you just come up with an all time lineup/roster for your favorite team.

Anyway, here's my 25 Man All-Time Mets roster. I'm trying to kill time at work so I wrote down my reasons.

Lineup:
SS - Jose Reyes: 5 years into his career and already the best leadoff man in team history.
CF - Cleon Jones: Real solid contact hitter, so ideal for the two hole. One of the main players in the 1969 championship run.
1B - Keith Hernandez: One of the top 3 most important Mets in team history, provides great contact hitting, leadership, and Gold Glove caliber defense.
C - Mike Piazza: Another of the top 3 most important Mets, a perfect fit in the cleanup spot. Sure he sucks at throwing out batters but many pitchers HAVE credited him for being able to call a good game.
3B - David Wright: Ridiculous what he has done already in his career. I honestly could see him being a Mets lifer...which has rarely happened in team history.
RF - Darryl Strawberry: The Mets' All-Time HR leader provides a serious power threat and splits up the righties.
2B - Edgardo Alfonzo: Fonzie was the man, pretty simple there. Easily my favorite Met growing up until they got Piazza.
LF - Mookie Wilson: It was tough picking between Mookie and Cleon for the #2 hitter spot. But I figure Mookie has more speed to get on base before the pitcher.

Rotation:
RHP Tom Seaver: The 3rd of the 3 most important Mets. The only player to be inducted into the HOF as a Met, so obviously he's a lock.
LHP Jerry Koosman: Dangerous lefty, anchored the rotation of the '69 Mets along with Seaver.
RHP Dwight Gooden: Gooden was BEYOND ridiculous in his first couple years. It's a shame his off-the-field problems hampered him, but he definitely makes this rotation.
RHP Ron Darling: Important piece to the Mets' 80's rotation, Ronnie has to go in here, provides a drastic change from Gooden.
LHP Al Leiter: Tough choice between Al and Sid Fernandez for the last spot, but I went with Al on the basis that he was the ace and was consistent through his tenure on the team.

Bullpen:
LHP Sid Fernanez: The team needs a loing reliever, so I'll squeeze El Sid onto the team anyway. Hard throwing lefty.
RHP Armando Benitez: Yeah...I know...Benitez sucks. BUT he did post some sick K numbers, just keep him out of the closers role.
LHP Jesse Orosco: Half of the '86 Mets' 2-headed closer, Orosco deserves a spot.
RHP Roger McDowell: Ditto for McDowell, the other half of the 2-headed closer.
LHP John Franco: He hung on too long, but Johnny has to go on the team because he was great until around 2001.
LHP: Tug McGraw: Tug was simply ridiculous. Posted back to back 1.70 ERA years whilst pitching over 100 innings. He caps off a pen that, while lefty heavy, is also very good.

Bench:
1B/OF Rusty Staub: Solid everyday player, and then later in his career he was one of the best pinch-hitters ever. The go-to guy off the bench.
C Gary Carter: Nearly became the 2nd HOF inductee for the Mets, Carter deserves a spot on the team, really important in the '86 championship run.
OF Tommie Agee: I feel bad not having him in the starting lineup, but a spot on the bench for him is a lock.
1B/OF Ed Kranepool: One of the few Mets' lifers, playing with the team since he was 17. Provides another lefty bat off the bench.
C Jerry Grote: Yeah, 3 catchers...but putting him in here frees up Carter to PH from the right side and also ensures every member of the NY Mets HOF gets onto the team.
UTIL Howard Johnson: HoJo was the man, can fill in anywhere and might very well be next in line for a Mets HOF spot.

Coaching Staff:
Would include all 4 managers who made it to the WS (Gil Hodges, Yogi Berra, Davey Johnson, Bobby Valentine) as well as the first manager in team history, Casey Stengel. Bud Harrelson would also make it as a coach...solid defensive player, it was between him and Grote for the final spot but Grote never coached.

Yeah, awesome team.

Had to edit mine because I can't believe I left off Darryl Strawberry I bumped Harrelson and moved him as a coach as he also managed the team and was a fan favorite.

As for Reggie Lewis, the 3 seasons after his rookie year he averaged like 20 points a game per game, obviously he passed away but I am assuming this trend would have continued - he was pretty good player. I probably could have put Sam Jones in the starting SG spot but outside of that there surprisingly isn't a ton of history at the SG spot for the C's.

Technicall Johnson came in as a SG, but was converted to PG when he joined the Celts. It could probably be argued that the Celtics dont win the title in 84 without Johnson.

Dennis Johnson was a PG on the Celtics, they probably wouldn't have won a lot of games without him but I still wouldn't list him as the starting SG on an All-Celtics team.

It usually boils down to those guys (Banks, Carson & Taylor) and those 4 guys from New Orleans. I can't remember their names, Krispy could tell ya.

I'm surprised Stima didn't know that the Giants fielded that LB unit.
