Will any "substitute latino" wrestler the WWE brings in ever draw as much as Rey Rey?
I feel that they have these wild expectations bringing these guys in that just aren't very logical. How will they be booked? Cause they had quite the chance with Psicosis/Juvi/Crazy to actually go somewhere with it and they threw it away. Will any latino they bring in come even close to the drawing power of Mysterio or Eddie?

You can't just bring in any. But there is a chance any wrestler could be big. Also, they have to book them to have a chance, not just a joke.

They'd have to do something new. Rey got over because he was excellent, and made his luchador look less low rent over time.
Since American mainstream wrestling audiences weren't exposed to lucha libre and the mask wearing guys until him (and others), it was fresh and exciting, and the look and style of the guys was interesting. Rey stood out among the crowd of them and got way over.
But now, since Rey has become a huge name, another high flying masked guy like him will be viewed as a ripoff. Of course Rey didn't start the masked look/style, but he represents it to mainstream viewers.
So they'd have to be completely different or they'd play second fiddle.

Maybe wrestling fans who just got into it in the past 7 years or so but WCW had alot of masked wrestlers and tried to represent Lucha Libre for quite awhile. Also, TNA World Cup represents Mexico rather well, at least it did last time I watched.

But none of them got over nearly as much. I'm not saying there weren't or currently aren't other luchas. There's always been a bunch and there probably always will, but they haven't clicked. I'm sure theres good stuff out there, but it's nothing special to a typical viewer now that it's been tapped with Rey

They'd have to be different, like Eddie. He broke away from tradition and became more unique, and more interesting to mainstream American audiences.

Na, Rey is the kiddies fave, with his cool masks and shiny clothes. Dos Caras will probably just be seen as a Rey clone. And booked like an Aldo Montoya clone.

To get over, the guys would have to have the following:

A) Enough of a move set outside of the lucha move set the lucha-style to keep them exciting. You have to assume that WWE will cut back on most of what the can do.

B) I think this is bigger than A, though it goes along with it. They have to be able to integrate their remaining move set with the workers. Part of what got Eddie over is that he had guys like Benoit, Jericho, Angle, Malenko, that could adapt to him, but he was also capable of putting over guys like JBL and Batista.

C) Booking and character are big too. WWE typically doesn't do well with non-English speaking guys, even when they are some of the most exciting guys on the roster. That's because WWE as a product isn't centered around just the matches, it's about the entire story.

Maybe, I saw a video of Mirco Cro Cop knocking him the fuck out. It was splendid. This Dos Caras wears a mask when he fights as well. Pretty cool.
