Sting in the WWE Hall of Fame?

Got this from the main page:

Quote:
Source: The Wrestling Observer Newsletter (f4wonline.com)

TNA wrestler Sting’s name actually came up this year regarding a possible induction into the WWE Hall of Fame.

The reigning TNA World Heavyweight Champion got support because a number of people involved in the company’s creative and producing process that were asked for input were not even aware he was working for the competition.

Sting is on good terms with Vince McMahon, so the company will likely produce a DVD based on the WCW footage they own and consider him in conjunction for the Hall of Fame when his time in TNA comes to an end.
So who'd accept that? Even though he's never been in WWE, Vince owns the WCW library which Sting is a HUGE part of. It would be cool to see Sting inducted as the WWE HOF covers pretty much all of pro wrestling anyway.

It'd also be cool to see Sting at Wrestlemania the next night for the crowd introduction thing they do, might even plant a seed in Stings head to appear on WWE TV, who knows?

Who'd buy that though? And if Sting ever did get inducted would you have him be the main induction of the evening (ala Bret Hart, Ric Flair, Steve Austin, Dusty Rhodes etc)?

Discuss.

Sting deserves it.

I think it's obvious that Flair would induct him. Easily the main induction.

As for working WWE, I honestly think it's inevitable and I believe he'll have one match in WWE.

To be the only person in the HoF and not wrestle a single match for the WWE, he SHOULD accept. But if I remember correctly (Which I may not), he refused to work for the WWE, so he may not even want in.

Sting/Taker would be Fail. Sure, taker can still go - Sting can't. His outings in TNA have shown us this. He has to be carried through matches, and even then they're shit.

Shawn Michaels vs. Sting

And Vince gets to continue holding down WCW a decade after it went under.

I'd like to have seen Sting brought in on a one year deal.

By that I mean he would make his debut, fued with a couple guys and have a match with Michaels.
Then he would have fued building to a Mania match with Taker where he could job, go into the HOF, get a dvd set and retire from my television.

um, what does it matter if Sting can go or not? Can he move? Yes.

Put Sting vs Undertaker or John Morrison vs Kofi on a card. Which one is going to draw more fans?

Some of you still don't understand that sometimes it's not the wrestling in itself that draws money. Sting doesn't have to be jumping and flying around the ring for the program to draw money.

Taker is a pro at carrying guys and Sting has been in the business long enough to understand how to make big matches work.

On the other hand, I want to be entertained by the match, not bored or thinking "when will this debacle be over"...

You're right, it would probably draw huge. That doesn't mean I'd want to actually see the match.

Hell, Hogan vs. Warrior would probably draw pretty huge now. You want to see that?

(Just playing devil's advocate here, btw.)

yes actually, I would. I always say there is two kinds of fans. The one that care for the storylines/buildup/epic feuds, and the ones that care for the matches. It's my personal opinion that it's the drama of the storyline that lures in the casual fans. Every match doesn't have to be spectacular, but like I said, usually at Mania or on big PPV'S, guys find a way to pull of good matches. And I would

Getting back to your Hogan/Warrior comment, that's exactly why I love wreslting. It's for those epic encounters, not to watch a Money In the Bank match for an example. I've been that way since I started watching.

But don't you think a REALLY bad match could ruin a good build up, especially if it's the blow-off match?

Of course, if it's an awesome build it doesn't really matter. But if it's an "it was okay" type of build (which is what we would get)...

yea, I would agree there. there have been times where the WWF has scrapped major feuds because the matches sucked after the build.

But if we're talking Sting/Taker, I don't think the match would be that bad. I think Sting can pull one more great match out of his ass. Sting being "Crow Sitng" is up in the air for me, but I kind of feel he has to go there to make the storyline worth more.

It would be pretty good. I think he would be a great signing on a limited time table. They have to keep a short leash.
He will draw for them. They will also be able to merchandise the shit out of his image in a way that TNA, and not even WCW could. I doubt Steve Borden would have any complaints there.

Creatively, they would have to make his debut matter. It'd be important to making all his payoffs over the next year work. I would debut him strong, and put him in an immediate fued with Michaels.
From there, I'd have him work with and put over a new guy. Maybe Orton, or Edge, or whoever most needs it.
I think a HHH match would be money. Maybe a hell in a cell with somebody.

Sting/Taker would be the inevitable match to book, and it should be Sting's last in WWE if he was there. Anything after that would be a step down and pointless.
He's obviously going out on his back, so I don't see the shame in him becoming "victim 18" It's not like that. Shawn Michaels isn't victim 17.
If the match and build are worked properly it could stand alone as a moment/match, while happening to fall into the streak.

Also, it'd be smart for Sting to sign to a short term deal with WWE before he hangs it up. Even if he did a lot of jobbing, it'd do wonders for his legacy and his bank account. He'd be a part of merchandising and promotion for the rest of the forseeable future. The WWE would probably strike him some kind of lifetime merchandising deal, with lots of upside.

The reason Sting and HBM would be cool, to me, is because both guys go back so far, and never wrestled for their rival promotion.

Also, I don't doubt Sting will show up in a WWE ring the way I may have doubted it in 2003/04.

His two major reasons for not working with WWE were creative.
One was the edgy nature of the content, which he didn't think was family friendly. At this point, in a TVPG atmosphere that is arguably cleaner than TNA, I don't think that is any longer an issue.

The other was fear of being misused or buried as "one of the WCW guys." I think by this point that is a non-issue too.
In 2003 he may have had a point, but now that the monday night wars are long over and the wounds of the invasion have healed I think it's safe to say he'd be handled as Sting, and Sting alone, rather than as WCW guy #7.

Also, he doesn't have to worry about his career being buried since they'd only be signing him to promote it.
There goal wouldn't be to use him long term and break him into their system, but to do a farewell tour of sorts, and finally get some exposure on WWE.
Since it would likely include promotion of his past accomplishments, and a HOF induction, I don't see them using him any way but positively. I think it'd be a mutual agreement that it was a short-term deal in which he wasn't going to be winning any titles or working any long term programs. That would clear up a lot of creative differences.

Yeah, would be awesome if he was a surprise entrant in the Rumble next year, something happens between him and HBK that gets them both eliminated and they fued up until Wrestlemania. That would be some hot stuff.

I can honestly Sting signing with the WWE when his contract in TNA has expired. And I definitely see programs with three men: Shawn Michaels, Chris Jericho and The Undertaker.

I see HBK being his entry feud. Sting is at a stage where he can actually still work and look motivated in there, and there are few guys that can make another person look as good as Shawn Michaels can. Sting should actually probably go over in that feud, just so the rest of his run has some weight to it.

Chris Jericho could so easily play a fantastic foil for Sting. "You're old, said you would never sign with this company, and you're here for the paycheck and the spotlight. Well Sting, I'll give you the spotlight but your paycheck is going straight to hospital bills." Jericho is another guy that could drag a good showing out of Sting, and again, it's not a neccessity Sting goes over here, as Jericho is the heel and it's sort of his job to put people over so they can move more merchandise.

Sting and The Undertaker clashing is a no-brainer. Most likely at a WrestleMania. Taker is doing the best work of his career right now, and Sting will no doubt be filled with a desire to make his first, and possibly his only WrestleMania appearance mean a fucking lot. No way should Sting win this match, but it should be an electric encounter.

I actually wouldn't like that to be the end of Sting in the WWE. I'd like to see him work with some younger stars, like John Morrison and Jack Swagger. He can go over one, and put another one over. I'd like to eventually see a face Sting lead a team against a heel Triple H in War Games. Triple H is due for another heel turn, and I can very easily see him facing Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania 26, where Sting could also be facing The Undertaker, for example. Trips has been a huge supporter of bringing War Games back, apparently, and it just seems fitting that they would lead the teams against each other.

Here's the dream teams for me:

Sting, Shawn Michaels, Christian, MVP & Jeff Hardy

VS

Triple H, Chris Jericho, Edge, Matt Hardy & Mr. Kennedy

If Jeff Hardy flakes out, and leaves the company, replace him with a face Kane.

i would rather have sting go into the hall of fame next year then not wrestle in wrestlemania, but go in an cost taker his streak, an give the win to some young heel like swagger or morrison. then taker and sting can have a verbal fued for a few weeks, sting takes out taker, so rick flair has to fight for taker, takes on sting at backlash then sting retires.

WWE's Hall of Fame is becoming a Wrestling Hall of Fame. The AWA guys are in it, so it would be ok if he went in the Hall, or was offered the spot.

If Sting is to sign for WWE, I'd honestly only want to see him in one more match, at WrestleMania, against Shawn Michaels.

The build up wouldn't be all that difficult. Announce Sting as that year's 1st new inductee, and make a HUGE deal of it.

A week or two later, have Sting come out in his WWE debut on a big 3 hour Raw, and have an interview about his induction. Have Cole or whoveber is holding the interview to continue to call Sting one of the best ever and blah blah blah blah.

HBK's music hits, and he comes out to the ring, looking disgusted. Shawn grabs the mic, and gets lays into Sting, asking how can he say he's one of the best ever when he's never wrestled for the best (WWE), and against THE best (Michaels).

HBK challenges Sting to a match at Mania, but, not wanting to compete any longer, Sting turns down the offer.

For the next several weeks, HBK taunts Sting. Eventually, HBK does something drastic, and pushes Sting over the limit. Sting finally accepts HBK's challenge, and the two go on to have a classic at Mania, with several false finishes, and ultimately, Sting slapping of the Deathlock with Michaels tapping.

After the match, let Sting retire for good, and sell his nice hefty 3 disc DVD set, complete with his 1st and only Mania match.

I would enjoy it. Sting should be recognized for his accomplishments, and as Gold Standard said, WWE HoF is becoming a wrestling HoF anyway.

As for a big program or two, HBM and Taker are obvious choices. Both feuds would be epic, and the DVD set after he hangs it up would be awesome.
