Blue Jays and Cubs both had over .600 win pct versus the Red Sox last season, both teams are so much better than Boston!!!

![]() Losing last night sucked, becase that is a game they should have won, and today you don't really expect to win, since Halladay is one of the top pitchers in the MLB. Maybe the Blue Jays could finally do something after 8 years of the Yankees and Red Sox finishing 1-2 atop the AL east standings. I don't think so though, Burnett is already injuried and a lot of people said the samething about last Baltimore last year (Although I do think the Jays are better then last years O's) |

I think AJ has to stop over throwing the ball. It's getting him injured.

Damn Dinardi gave up 10 H and 7 ER in 3 innings. Everybody is gonna be jumping all over the Arroyo trade now, especially with Wells talking about retirement. Hopefully this opens the door for Clemens.

Have one blow out win and fans think their team is the greatest team ever. So if the Red Sox are as bad as you say, then how come every other game has been decided by 1 or 2 runs? What does that say about the Jays?

The Red Sox have played well for 17 out of 162 games. Lets wait until at least deep into May until this kind of discussion

Miz has a point. There's still guys hitting over 400, and Albert Pujols is on course for about 90 home runs right now, lets let things settle a little!

I totally agree with you guys, things look pretty good thusfar but obviously shit can change. Especially with injuries and things like that. I don't read too much into wins or loses in April. I pay attention to more stuff like who has been pitching well, how the bullpen is shaping up, how the team looks in close games(Foulke blowing one, allowing Papelbon to come into the mix) etc. Manny Declareman is being brought up for the next game, so it'll be interesting to see how he throws. I am all for a young guy if he is throwing better than some "crafty veteran"

Rios has a higher AVG than he does an OBP. You don't very often, if at all. Still early, I know, but weird to look up his stats and see something like that.

It is only possible if you have more sac flies than walks.

yeah because he's had 3 sac flies it's not an official at bat in terms of AVG, but it does count in the OBP. Same thing for walks, just in the opposite of effects.

The guy's lifetime OBP is terrible (.324). He does need to start showing patience if he wants to be an everyday player the rest of his career.

I never knew that a sac fly hurt your OBP, I didn't think it would since you are purposely not getting on base.

Sac flies often happen by accident though, that's the thing. If there's a runner on first and you lay down a bunt, 99% of the time you are attempting to give yourself up. Occasionally guys like Figgins and Furcal or whoever are trying to get a hit but most of the time it is a sacrifice. I think with most sac flies the guy isn't meaning to do it; either he is trying to hit one out and doesn't get all of it or he is trying to hit a line drive and gets under it. For example Carlos Lee led the league last year with 11 sac flies, I'd bet that most, if not all of those he was attempting to put it in the seats and missed.

Yeah true, I was thinking sac flies and sac bunts where the samething for some reason. So if a batter bunts, it doesn't hurt his .OBP?

it counts as an at bat against him in OBP, so yes it would. It's just a quirky little thing.
BoSox are up 5-3 rite now |

Sac bunts do not hurt your OBP. The offical MLB formula for OBP is:
H + BB + HBP / AB + BB + HBP + SF ...because of what I said earlier, sac bunts are usually intentional sacrifices and sac flies usually aren't. |

Yesterday's game was pretty sick. Had Damon making his return and Mirabelli getting out of a state trooopers car in full uniform 7 minutes before the opening pitch. I really don't see how an early season game could any better than that.
