The Yankees handled the whole thing terribly. Making Torre take a pay-cut and giving him a 1 year deal just so he could go through the whole thing again next year? Terrible. It just seems like the front office didn't want him back so they give him that contract knowing he would reject it. That keeps them from looking like the bad guys.

The way Cashman and the front office has handled things lately have seemed to piss a lot of people off. First with Bernie then with Torre.

I don't think it was a money thing with Joe; I'd assume its more the fact that he felt disrespected. Which I really do think he was.

The Yankees are definitely taking a step back next year I think. And this offseason could turn up horrible with Mo, Posada and A-Rod pretty much free agents.

Yup, its pretty obvious the Yankees wanted him gone but wanted to save face by offering him a contract. I'm pretty sure 2 million dollars isn't a huge problem if they really wanted him back.

Glad Torre said fuck you to the Yanks. That deal was an insult. There were escalators that would raise the deal an extra million for every playoff series win, as if they felt Joe wasn't motivated enough.

Gonna be interesting to see what happens with Mo and Posada now. Mo has said that Joe Torre will greatly impact his decision. We'll see.

this is part of the reason why I hate ESPN now. They do these ranking lists which is fine but they put no thought into them at all. They have Davey fucking Johnson on the list of greatest managers of all time? Billy Martin? Leo Durocher? Earl Weaver? And they don't even have Sparky Anderson on there. Its gotta be either Girardi or Mattingly I'm guessing. Definitely worried about Mattingly handling the team and Girardi was fired from Florida because he argued with the whole front office constantly. That should go over really well here.
