Gonna be interesting to see what happens if it gets to Game 7 with Dice-K. 2 days rest is a pitcher's throw day during the regular season so I bet we'll see Beckett come in for an inning or two if necessary

nah, everyone is expecting Dice-K to start and be on a very short leash... ie. could be pulled in the 2nd inning.

Becket wont start, if it's a close game, he'll be on 2days rest, which is probably his side session day, so he could be good for 2 ip.

you'll also have wakefield, lester and pretty much everyone else except schilling.

of course this assume a game 6 win, and schilling going 7-8ip, otherwise even with a win if schilling gets knocked out early on saturday it changes who you'll have sunday.

honestly, game 6 worries me more then game 7.

you don't have a guy start on 2days rest, especially this time of year. He wouldn't be near 100% and you're risking injury and not having him for a possible next series.

Dice-K will start, in a worst need scenario I could see 1 maybe 2IP of relief from beckett, but that's it and only if it's a close game.

Only one I can recall was didn't Kevin Brown for SD pitch like every 3rd game and relief inbetween?

Umm i dont know if you've watched the rest of this series or not, but Josh Beckett with a tired arm, is better then everything you can run out there for game 7 unless they decide to start Lester. He's young and he could handle 5 to 6 innings to give it to Lester.

Dice-K couldnt make it past 5 innings without giving up 6 hits, 4 runs. Schilling couldnt get past 5 innings without giving up 9hits and 5 runs. Wakefield couldnt get past 5 innings. He gave up 5 hits 5 runs.

Have fun watching a rookie pitch game 7 of the ALCS if it even gets that far.

RP - you just don't get it, a "tired arm" as you called it is a major thing, they need the rest for a reason, having Beckett start and go 5-6IP is asking for disaster, not just in performance but what it could do to his arm. You don't risk having your ace for the next 5-10yrs blow out his arm.

Now, coming in for an inning or two in a tight game if Dice-K had put people on, maybe... but Dice-K is option 1, Lester and Wakefield are option 2/3... hopefully there will be no need for beckett.

See, i think it would have been funny if Lofton got himself tossed out for running at the mound and shooting his mouth off which the ump should have done, would have served him right. Hey LC, what were your thoughts when Clemens threw part of a bat at Piazza and later clamed he thought it was the ball...

I think a lot of athletes in many sports do things in the heat of the moment they regret later.

oh, and before someone bring it up, yes... Manny needs to stop watching his damn ball like a kid in the stands and run the damn bases when he hits a HR... the flip the bat thing him and Ortiz used to do is one thing... but this stand, stare, walk thing is getting annoying and i expect a few balls to come his way next season.

nah, Drew doesn't suck, he's also not a great player either. No question the Sox overpaid for him, but i also want to see him next year, i think the personal issues may have effected him this year, so i'll wait another year to pass full judgement. it's not like Renteria who couldn't handle Boston, Drew can... it's just a matter of getting his numbers up... heck, he's only a career like .280 hitter.

this tails on a conversation i had tonight at the bar, someone pissed at Drew for the money he's getting, I don't fault Drew for this year, I fault the Sox, they gave him the money, someone offers you more money then your worth to do the same job, who would say no?

I think Tony La Russa hit the nail on the head when he said that J.D. Drew is the type of player that settles for only giving 75% of his talent. I do believe he is gonna have a better season next year though, a la Beckett this year.

I think he gives 100%, I just don't think he gets "fired up" and "emotional" Bledsoe was the same way, it's just not in some peoples nature.

Byrd, who is 2-0 this postseason with a 3.60 ERA as a starter for Cleveland, did not comment after The Chronicle attempted to reach him through his agent via phone and e-mail. The Indians declined comment as well. The paper said Byrd spent $24,850 to buy more than 1,000 vials of growth hormone as well as hundreds of syringes. The records reviewed by The Chronicle included such items as purchase and shipping orders, Byrd's birth date and his Social Security number. The source that provided the records said the orders placed were consistent with personal use of HGH. During his 13-year career in which he has played for seven different teams, Byrd is 97-81 with a 4.35 ERA. This season, he started 31 games and had a 15-8 record with a 4.59 ERA.
