Yeah, but it was different when Tyreese died this way.

Just saw this. I feel sick. Was shaking from Hershel til the end.

There's way too much ambiguity with Little Ass Kicker, much like with Carol when she was missing last year. When you die on this show, they make sure you're there in some way. Then again, this could be the show's first infanticide - and simply how they choose to handle it. Also bear in mind Beth having failed her duties is something that can go both ways on a show like this.

That Carol's ideology essentially saved Tyrese should be something they work with when they return.

I believe that creepy cabin Gov and Martinez found a few weeks ago was a veiled Governor origin story. That was his home and family, I think.

In hindsight; Carl should have took the shot.

Tank Driver gestures mercy against Daryl. The fuck was he thinking.

The Rat Psycho mystery will continue, but I no longer think it's that little girl. I think she will play foil to Carl in the future.

I'm not completely convinced the Gov is dead, either. I mean, we didn't technically see him die, so it wouldn't surprise me if that eventually comes back in a later season. Awesome episode though.

Maybe we will see zombie Judith like the one in Dawn of the Dead remake? Can't see it though, there's got to be some sort of goodness coming out of all that mess. Hopefully they go back to the farm like the comics for a while.

Just watched it. Damn. Really liked Hershel. He was probably the only "full face" character on the show. Played the "moral center of the group" far better than Dale and his eyebrows ever did.

Wonder if the Lesbians made it out alive.

Last three eps were really kinda weird. They built up the whole flu/sickness angle, and then were like "Screw that, the Governor's back, here are two slow episodes on where he has been, and now we are back at the prison, but forget that whole flu thing they are all better now, let's get back to the war with the Governor from last season"

Just watched episode 8. There was a part of me that thought the Governor was going to fake and take Michon's (sp) head off instead.

Then as Herschel was crawling away, I still thought they were going to somehow save him, even with a wedge missing out of his neck.

Pretty damned upset when I watched it.

in some ways i kind of envy the people who do not read the comic, because i didn't get any of that uncertainty when i saw the governor bring out michonne and herschel. i knew exactly how it was going to play out, even if the show swapped out tyreese for herschel. so i guess in some ways you do lose a bit of that excitement and "will they/won't they survive" drama, i guess

Yeah, admittedly I've not read the comics. That's an interesting observation.

How closely have the series followed the comics? Are there any glaring "that did not happen" moments from either?

Not very closely.

For example

SPOILER: show
Shane died way earlier in the comics, baby Judith died along with Lori, there is no Daryl, Carl is missing an eye, Rick is missing a hand, etc.

yeah, as sixx said, it's been kind of wildly variable in how closely it follows the comics.

the pacing is very different, especially moreso earlier on, but it seems to have shifted more in favour of the tv show catching up now. there was no way they were going to make it at the pace season one went.

major differences and spoilers so far (at least one of sixx's wouldn't have happened in the show anyway yet given when it happens in the comic) in the books...

SPOILER: show
- shane dies a whole lot quicker
- dale dies a whole lot later (and in a very different, far more badass manner - i think that character got cheated on the show)
- there is no t-dogg (or 99% of the original group - andrea, amy, rick, dale, carl, shane, lori, carol and sophia are the only book characters at the outset. most of the other characters they have since encountered are from the books or pastiches of several characters from the books).
- there is no daryl (or merle - though i believe daryl is destined to make his debut in the comics soon, if he hasn't already)
- andrea is not yet dead
- sophia is not yet dead
- carol is long dead, and not at all from being sent from the group or anything like that; she kills herself at the prison by freely walking up to a biter the group had chained up in the courtyard for research. in fact, of all the show-book characters, carol probably is the most differently characterised.
- tyreese is decapitated by the governor in the comics, not herschel; herschel does die during the prison attack, but he is gunned down in cold blood (still by the governor), after witnessing his last living son get killed in the fight.
- tyreese also has an incredibly badass moment where he gets stuck in the prison gym with an outrageous number of zombies and the others fear he is dead but go back to save him eventually and he's just sitting there holding his hammer surrounded by dead zombies, which i don't think we're going to get, sadly

- the governor cuts off rick's hand (which is a fairly major plot/character development thing for rick, so idk if they're gonna end up doing that later or not)
- andrea never lived in woodbury as the governor's ensorcelled offsider


dunno, probably forgetting some, but that gives you a general idea of how closely or otherwise the show has followed the comics

so i mean, obviously there are still some surprises for me, but when there's a major set-piece - say, the attack on the prison - some of the faces might be different, but the overall vibe and major happenings remain. in fact, the end shot of the recent midseason finale, with the prison going up in smoke and rick and carl walking away, was pretty much ripped from the pages. it was kind of beautiful.

- tyreese is decapitated by the governor in the comics, not herschel; herschel does die during the prison attack, but he is gunned down in cold blood (still by the governor), after witnessing his last living son get killed in the fight.
- tyreese also has an incredibly badass moment where he gets stuck in the prison gym with an outrageous number of zombies and the others fear he is dead but go back to save him eventually and he's just sitting there holding his hammer surrounded by dead zombies, which i don't think we're going to get, sadly

As for Daryl, he hasn't debuted yet and I don't see it happenning, at least as long as Dwight is alive. Pretty sure Kirkman was pressured into promising him showing up, cause of TV Daryl's popularity, which I think is declining? For me, at least it is. Went from a badass loner to Rick's bottom bitch.

funny, when the show started, i commented to jazz about how i thought daryl and merle were a split pastiche of abraham, dunno if dwight had arrived at that point. kind of struck me as similar characters; so i wonder, as well, how abraham will be portrayed on the show, because he definitely had an air of the dixon bros about him. was also one of my favourite characters, was gutted when he bit it.

i personally still really like daryl; think he has undergone a great deal of growth. i definitely see where you are coming from, but he is no less badass when it comes to crunch time, really.

You know what the show really needs? Another episode of Carl being a bit of a shithead to his dad. He then runs off to prove he's tough, gets in a spot of bother, gets out of the trouble and goes back to his dad. Rick then tells Carl he's not a boy anymore, and he's now a man. Wouldn't that be great?
