Actually, the Twins have the lowest team ERA in the AL.
Johan Santana is a lock for the Cy Young. Brad Radke has been around top 10 lowest ERA's all season, but no run support. Rincon-Romero-Balfour-Nathan = Best bullpen in the AL Nathan has established himself as one of the leagues elite closers this season. Our #3 and #4 starters aren't as good, but if you are expecting ace showing from Derek Lowe and Bronson Arroyo you are a real optimist. They will pitch good, but they won't shut down anybody. The Yankee's had two pitchers pitching well, one punched a wall, and now they have one. The Twins beat Mussina last year when he was pitching great. Vazquez has been having control problems. I'm the first to admit that we have the weakest #3 and #4 playoff pitchers, but its not like thats a strong point in any AL team besides the A's this year. |

Playoff Yankees with Pettite, Clemens, Wells, and Mussina yeah.
This Yankees team isn't built the same way it was when they won the championships, hence why they haven't won it all in a while. They are an offensive team now. Defense and pitchiing wins games. |

Yankees leading 8-0 over the Red Sox in the bottom of the 2nd.
The Red Sox infield defense has been awful this game. Derek Lowe had a pretty awful play throwing to third instead of getting the out at first. |

Now that the Twins secured the divison again...Does anybody know where you can get the playoff schedules yet? I am almost positive they are already made. Every year there is a big controversy because if the Twins make the ALCS they could have a game at the same time as the Gophers football. So does anybody know where to find the dates?

MVP and Cy Young takes?
I'd say for MVP in the AL, Manny and Ortiz from Boston are reasonable choices, but they'll both probably split votes and pave the way for Sheffield vs. Guerrero. If Anaheim makes the playoffs, Guerrero gets a nice case, but Sheffield has been the leader of the Yankees all year long, and the baseball writers really seem to like him now. National League: Barry Bonds. AL Cy Young is between Santana and Schilling. It's obvious if you're going on raw stats to give Santana the Cy. He's 13-0 with a 1.18 ERA since the break, and he's led Minnesota into the playoffs. But Schilling is 39 [around that anyway], he's a gamer and a workhorse, was the first pitcher to 20 wins, and baseball might consider giving him his first Cy Young before he retires. I think Santana will win and should win, but don't count out Schilling. In the NL, it was Jason Schmidt until he pitched terribly last month and basically ruined his chances. It was Carl Pavano for a while last month, but he's dropped out of the race. Unit would win on stats, but he doesn't have the wins. Roy Oswalt has had a big second half and he's now a candidate, but Roger Clemens now looks like the favorite. He's 18-4 with a 2.90 ERA and 200+ strikeouts. |

As bias as I am, there is a better chance of a snowball in hell than Schilling winning the Cy Young this year.

This MVP/CY YOUNG pics is getting ridiculous. Look, there's only like two guys for Cy Young right now. So why even ask? What am I going to say, Mussina will win the Cy Young?
Same thing with MVP. Sheff, Manny, Vlad. This is jus the AM. |

MVP - Sheff, Manny, Ortiz and Vlad. My Pick - Sheff
Cy Young - Santana or Schilling. My Pick - still up in the air... If Schill dominates on Sunday, say 8 IP 0ER 3 or less hits, I'll go Schill cause he had a great year and has dominated in every big game. But, it's tough to argue w/ Santanas stats... That being said, who faced the tougher batters/teams? Does that factor in? |

Sep 27 After Guillen threw his batting helmet in the direction of manager Mike Scioscia following his removal from Anaheim's 5-3 win over Oakland on Saturday, he was suspended without pay by the Angels for the remainder of the 2004 season. The outfielder's behavior has been an issue more than once this year, as he went on a profanity-laced tirade after being beaned in a game at Toronto in May, complaining that his teammates weren't retaliating for him.

Lol. I have to assume that if the Angels make the playoffs they bring him back though. In the playoffs an arm like his could make the difference in a game. Anyway, the reports are saying that he tossed his batting helmet and glove in the direction of Mike Scoscia, I have to assume that it was a little more aggressive and direct than that. For a team to pull a started out in the heart of a playoff race has got to be bad.

On ESPN the headline is something like "Johan Loses Streak!" or something implying that Johan did something bad and lost the game or something. JC Romero lost the game, it just happened to be the first time in 12 starts that the Twins have lost while Johan is pitching. Theres no need for the misleading headline

Yea I agree. I think he can be detrimental, yet also helpful cuz he gets all his teammates fired up as well. He just needs to harness his emotions and use them more productively. I heard he has to go to anger management classes so maybe that'll help him..... well just maybe.

From most news outlets I read, he'll only be suspended for the regular season. That's why the Dodgers didn't appeal: so that he can play in the playoffs. I never really heard of MLB "extending" a suspension after it laid one down already. And besides, this isn't a Francisco situation where someone got hurt. Bradley threw a bottle at the ground that was originally thrown at him. It was just an act of rudeness and immaturity, not violence.

No, MLB looks at the act, not the result (I'm not saying you wrong about the suspension, I have read much on it). but you have to punsih the act, not the result in these cases. What if the chair thrown didn't hit anyone? Now, given... in the case of the bottle, it was thrown at him, so he was provoked... but you still can't do that... If he saw who did it, he needs to tell secuirity and have the guy tossed... What made it worse, besides MB having a short fuse is the umps were on his side, tried to calm him down and he flipped out on the umps for no reason and got tossed. |

Forget the Bernie Walkoff. How bout the DAVID ROSS walkoff for the Dodgers. You know its a special season when Hee Seop Choi and David Ross are the main contributors in a September game.
