I finally got caught up on the latest show a couple days ago. I actually quite enjoyed Perkins and Nakamura. I'd never seen a Nakamura's match before, but now I can kinda see where the hype about him came from.

Something I have noticed with Nakamura is that he is "really bad" at "selling an injury"......
Gets his leg worked on, but then is "suddenly fine" and using it to kick/jump/etc. Like, not even a "hint" in his mannerisms that his "leg is hurt". He just went from his leg being "destroyed" one moment and "perfectly fine" the next. If he isn't going to actively sell the injury, at the VERY LEAST he could do a "I'm going to shake/stretch my leg out to signify it is now going to be fine". Think I have noticed the same thing before in another match he had....... |

RVD was good at selling that stuff.

RVD was still terrible, though.

Can't stop thinking the Kinshasa Knee Strike looks like a weird Sweet Chin Music/Zack Attack hybrid...

I love TJ Perkins' in ring work and he has an amazing theme. I just wish he would never tweet, cut a promo, or dab again.

I think it is "good"... makes him "relatable" to "the kids" and gives them a "signature pose" to "copy" when he comes out.........

Shinsuke does kinda stop selling, but selling during the length of a match anymore is becoming a lost art. More people don't than do anymore. More about writers telling the stories with words (promos and announcers squabbling) than the wrestlers doing so with actions and such.
And he does everything else so goddamn well. I even find his disjointed promos oddly appealing- it doesn't so much seem like he has trouble speaking English as it just looks like forming words is physically painful for him to do. I'm sure that this totally looks like I'm slagging off on him, and I'm not. Its... different. It's more like a unique character tic than a detriment. If Cena can get up from being dead on a bare floor for 9 seconds to beat a 10 count then rally and beat 3 men consecutively, nobody will honestly shed tears for Shinsuke's miraculous, Wolverine-like healing ability. |
