Funny how MJF's promo is getting guff here but a lot of people are saying it was all-time amazing.

The most basic part of cutting a promo would be speaking in a way that people want to listen. MJF screeches through this promo with false emotion for about 10 minutes until he forced himself to cry. We were watching a WWE fan cry over his favorite wrestler. It was embarrassing.

I thought it was brilliant. 95% of the time when a heel cuts a sympathetic promo, the audience is just conditioned to just wait for the punchline where the heel blames “each and every one of you people” and goes back into normal heel promo mode.
Instead the punchline just never came. Even when Punk came out, you could feel the arena tense up as people were expecting MJF to cheap shot him or something. So to have Punk just sell it like everyone else, conflicted by what he just heard made for a cool effect. I appreciated the shades of grey approach. Maybe being there live made it feel even better because you could cut the tenseness with a knife as people were waiting for the punchline that never came. |

I've seen people suggest it could be leading to a double turn at Revolution and that is laughable. I could maybe see the Dog Collar match bringing out a vicious side of Punk that serves as a catalyst for a heel turn in his next program. But MJF is not turning face, nor should he. I expect he'll be back to being the shitbag heel we all know and love in the post-Revolution Dynamite. Likely demanding Wardlow hand over his title shot for winning the Face of the Revolution Ladder Match, to which Wardlow says lol no and we're off to the races with that. |

As cool as Arthur Ashe was, I do appreciate a smaller arena to a big stadium. When a small arena crowd gets loud, it is REALLY loud. Whereas in a big arena even a hot crowd the sound can get sucked up to the ceiling. Was amazed at how loud the arena got for Buddy Matthews, good for that dude. From an overall convenience perspective, a smaller arena also meant lines weren't quite the disaster they were at Arthur Ashe. I did get stuck in a long piss line during Dark so I missed 98% of Archer murdering Fuego Del Sol. But I timed my two other piss breaks perfectly, the second Jericho/Kingston's promo ended as well as Andrade/Sammy on Rampage, bolted out of my seat and pissed before the line got too long. Surprisingly zero beer line at times. |

Had to turn the promo off because it just feels kinda awkward but I appreciate that they're trying to tell a meaningful story. Really hard for wrestlers to feel authentic when doing stuff like this, although I feel MJF is tapping into something real and I relate to the struggle he's trying to portray. Just kinda weird to have him being the silver spoon guy then cut an impassioned promo about being a rag-tag Jewish underdog.

I'm not too hot on the AEW World Championship picture right now. The main event of this PPV will be a great match no dobut but I think it's probably one of the weakest main events they've booked for a PPV as far as "drawing power". I mean we are not talking about the guys AEW books that pop a 1.3 rating for Dynamite, this is the 900k crew for the main event of the PPV. Doesn't seem to be the smartest choice if the goal is to sell the most PPV's.

Watched the rest of the promo. It was interesting. Just yeah... the whole thing about Punk quitting effecting MJF in such a manner seems like a huge jump.

It was still a long affair, like 4.5 hours bell to bell. But there were breaks.
7 PM sharp they did Dark, like 6 quick matches and then a 10 min break. These aren't must watch or anything though, the crowd was still filing in since the traffic around the arena in Bridgeport was godawful. And again, if you're gonna piss/get food or drinks now is the time to do it, better to miss throwaway Dark matches than Dynamite. Like a 10 min break before Dynamite, which of course is 2 hours. Then a 15 minute break for them to set up Rampage. Main event (OC/Bowens) ended at like 11:20 PM. We bolted right after then but I'm sure Khan came out and dicked around with OC and Danhausen. Helped stagger the exiting crowd a bit. It took us no time at all to get out of the arena lot, which was a nice surprise. |

The highlight for Dark was getting a great view of Skye Blue's glorious posterior.

Lol, did they really have MJF cut a promo about how he was a bullied Jewish kid and CM Punk leaving WWE hurt his feelings? Yeah, that’s what you do out of the blue.
And apparently Santana & Ortiz were fodder in the Battle Royal too. LolAEW |

Haha, they signed Buddy Murphy? That’ll stick it to Vince. At least they’ve got a new Kenny Omega for when Kenny Omega cuts and runs.

I guess it's fine to give MJF's character some "depth" and stuff but it just seemed misplaced in this feud and a really abrupt / not believable change...

MJF's promo was quite refreshing.
While his delivery isn't the finest, the content was quality and added to his character's motivation. It also boggles my mind that he's only 25. He's bound to do great things in the industry. |

I've rewatched the angle and I still think it's one of the biggest missteps in major story progression AEW has done. I don't understand how AEW creative, Punk and MJF thought that a vulnerable promo from the main villain in the company is a great way to get the fans hooked into this dog collar match.
Ultimately it isn't going to matter when the match starts at the PPV, and I'm sure I will enjoy that. But this was for me one of the worst thing's AEW has done. I think it's more resounding for me because it's a major character that has hit it out of the park every time so far. So for me to see him look so stupid really bothered me. And honestly Punk looked stupid too, being concerned for MJF because he was a fan of his... It just reeked of fake twitter wrestling bullshit. The other big failures AEW has had for me were technical for the most part, the failed explosion during the Revolution main event last year or the bad shot of Jericho falling off the Blood 'n Guts cage, or Nyla Rose. But this was the first major creative blunder that I can remember. I'm sure there was some more, the Mimosa match was a dumb fucking idea for one. |

One thing I really loved on this show was the Jericho and Kingston face off. They are both master of the mic. Jericho was in there with a guy who wanted to push his buttons legit, so I thought. Jericho has a habit where he can go into looney tunes mode and use this vail of comic expression to cut a promo, and he was doing that a bit to start with Eddie. He was sounding like a comedian and Eddie was sounding like a dude who has real problems and fights people every night.
The promo got elevated though and Jericho snapped into his best gear right when he needed to. It was just at the end when Jericho delivered his threats against Kingston and Kingston sold them, he was bothered because Jericho could be right, maybe he is just a fat jobber. But we all know Kingston is the man and this match is probably going to deliver. I love it when Jericho delivers his best. Some of his AEW work is the best of his career, some is just around or below the average for him I'd say. Jericho is what he says he is though. He does have an argument to be in the GOAT talk, he has had one of the best careers of anyone in wrestling ever. I don't like seeing him when he isn't trying, but when he is, even now he is one of the best. So I'm hoping for a Jericho at top form against Kingston at his best on the PPV and I think we could all be really surprised by this match. |

Jericho looking cut and having abs again in time for calling Eddie a fat jobber is excellent timing.

Jericho had to get himself into shape to make an appeal to Vince if his contract wasn’t picked up.

Jericho has no interest in WWE, he's the number one star on AEW in WWE he's just another Edge.
