I don't think i really need to answer that I'm pretty realistic though and really doubt he'll return.

Newell would be good but again, i don't see why he'd want to come here, same with someone like Cotterill (who we've just had an offer for permission to talk to turned down).

I'm not in favour of them charging Neville. I can see why they have (I'm guessing they felt there was an intent to incite the crowd, which is potentially dangerous) but at the end of the day, he was just celebrating a goal. This whole Di Canio thing pisses me off as well, but thats more for a political reason. Celebrating is part of the game and as long as it doesn't go too over the top (if your diving into the crowd, it is potentially pretty dangerous or going close up and yelling abuse at the opposing fans I would see grounds for it) but in the case of Neville he did neither really, he was well away from the fans and didn't hurl abuse at them, and the Whelan thing was a joke.

Things which are dangerous should be stopped, things which are pure emotion like Neville, Whelan or Robben the other day.... the FA needs to give leeway.

Makes you laugh when they are so petty for stuff like celebrating goals or talking about referees and yet Lord Sven gets treated like an absolute God even though my Granny could have done just as good a job with the England team with those players. Its down to the authorities and the club to get rid of the racist fans in the stadium and prevent them from getting in.

I don't see why players shouldn't be allowed to bring politics into the game, it is rife everywhere else in society, why not football? (or sport in general)

Because they've no right to use a stage they've been given because of footballing talent to make a political statement, particularly a statement that stands for hatred and intolerance and appeals to a troubling hooligan element that stalks football.

If they want to make political statements they can do it in their own time, on their own terms, not on a stage for sport.

Ultras are a huge, huge problem and they could really fuck up this year's World Cup if the fascist wankers from all over Europe congregate to hi-jack the ultimate footballing stage. They've no place in football. Di Canio should be banned for life for encouraging them after all the trouble they've brought and all the misery they cause to minority players all over Europe.

I agree that is has no place in football. It doesn't have a place in other areas of entertainment either. Part of the reason I fucking hate Chris Martin and Bono.

No, if a footballer wants to use his fame to go and be a politician or lobbiest elsewhere, fine.

If an artist wishes to use their own work and their own stage as a platform for their views, that is their perogative too. Artists are partly there to express their opinions through their chosen medium. You can pay to hear/see/listen to them, you don't have to.

A football pitch is for playing football on, not for sending political messages or making politically-sensitive gestures. They're being paid to play football and making political statements on the pitch is an abuse of their position.

Yeah, if an artist is asked about political views then they obviously have a right to give them, especially if it applies to their work. Same as a footballer on a chat show can talk about politics if he's asked.

An artist's career is based on expression.
