two nights ago, i watched two movies i hadn't seen from my two favorite directors.

first, i watched stanley kubrick's paths of glory. kirk douglas rules in this, and it was a short but intense portrayal of military corruption. kubrick was very anti-war himself, and this movie was really really good.

then, i saw alice doesn't live here anymore by martin scorsese. thought it was interesting and well-directed, and ellen burstyn's a great actress, but i'd never watch it again. nothing happens, very weird characters. i respect it aesthetically, but it's a downer in terms of entertainment.

tonight, i watched big chunks of mortal kombat: annihilation [still THE worst movie i've ever seen; hilariously pitiful acting and CGI] and the matrix reloaded [i liked a lot more since i last saw it about a year ago; the special effects are still incredible and the action rules, but the scenes without the action are useless]. i still think that if revolutions were really really good, the whole trilogy would have been solid. although reloaded started getting ridiculous with the plot, revolutions could have redeemed it. it didn't.

I Robot: Just saw this for the first time tonight. I thought it was pretty good overall, but not a film worth seeing again any time soon. Some of the action scenes were pretty nice, and then some of them were strange and not very good looking.
