1. Warriors are the worst drafters in NBA history, they will either draft some useless foreign big man or trade the pick for nothing. 2. If things are going good by the All-Star Break they will trade Dunleavy and/or Davis and completely ruin the team's chemistry. If things are going shitty they will trade their entire roster. Chris Mullin always panicks. 3. Their bench is weak. Derek Fisher and can be a good spark and Mickael Pietrus can give productive minutes for JRich but other than that they are shitty. Calbert Cheany, Zarko Cabarkapa, Andris Biderins, yuck. 4. Richardson has too big of an ego to do what Shawn Marion and Amare Statudemire did and let the point guard run the team. 5. Face it, Dunleavy has been a bust 6. Adonal Foyle SUCKS. Just plain out SUCKS. The most overpaid player in professional sports, he'll make $6.5 million next year to give 5 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 blocks a game. That salary along with Baron Davis' $12.3 million prohibits them from picking up a good SF or C which they really need. 7. They're the Warriors! Come on, maybe in a few years, but the bets I could see them doing is slipping in at 7 or 8 and getting swept in the first round. |

Yeah, they were looking to trade JJ at the deadline last year because he was going to ask for a gripload of money this year. We'll see.

2. If they trade Dunleavy, all the better. No one in the Bay Area really likes him. I'm not too sure how he is in the locker room though. And Davis, yeah like I said hopefully they won't do anything stupid by trading him. But fuck Dunleavy. 3. Fisher is ok. I think Pietrus is underrated. And yes, everyone else is pretty terrible. 4. I didn't mean that they would play like the Suns, I meant they will have a great turn-around year like them. 5. Yes, which is why no one would care if he was traded. 6. Big problem here. Which makes me wonder what they'll go for in the draft. Maybe a younger C. How long does Foyle have on his contract? But yeah, I have no suggestions on how they should handle it. 7. I know, but they're overdue. Possibly a 4 seed. Definitly a playoff contender. |

Foyle may be overpayed, but he isn't the most overpaid in professional sports, not even the NBA. Take a look.
Dikembe Mutombo - New Jersey/Houston - $18,771,511 Allan Houston - New York - $17,531,250 Anfernee Hardaway - New York - $14,625,000 Keith Van Horn - Dallas - $14,487,000 Jalen Rose - Toronto - $14,487,000 Latrell Sprewell - Minnteosta - $14,462,500 Brian Grant - LA Lakers - $13,233,434 Tim Thomas - New York - $12,900,000 To put those into some perspective Kevin Garnett - Minnesota - $16,000,000 Jason Kidd - New Jersey - $14,791,000 Ray Allen - Seattle - $14,625,000 Tracy McGrady - Houston - $14,487,000 Tim Duncan - San Antonio - $14,260,640 Kobe Bryant - LA Lakers - $14,175,000 Dirk Nowitzki - Dallas - $12,584,688 Paul Pierce - Boston - $12,569,688 Baron Davis - Golden State - $12,330 Just for kicks: Shaquile O'Neal - Miami - $27,696,429 ![]() Thats what is wrong with the NBA if you ask me. I just named 9 of the top 10 players in the NBA, and none of them got paid higher then Dikembe Mutombo or Allan Houston last year. At least make them earn it. Football and baseball have much better contract rules then basketball, and this is why. |

Is that just their contract? Without extras and whatnot? If it is, while I do agree that all of the players on the first list are overpayed, I do not think that Dikembe Mutombo, Allan Houston, Anfernee Hardaway, Keith Van Horn, Jalen Rose, Latrell Sprewell, Brian Grant, or Tim Thomas gets anywhere near the merchandise money than all of the guys on the second list.
Maybe I'm way off, but that's what I see... Also, anyone see Rasheed's interview? Pretty ridiculous. You had three shots, that was not the refs fault. The announcers even saw it. Hey loopydate, if you think Shaq gets all the calls, see the four charges they called on him. Especially the one where they waved the basket off, which was his fifth I think. Get out of here with that. Out of the four charges they called on him, two were legit. It's pretty rough to call against Shaq. Yeah, there were some BS calls but it's been that way for both teams. They have been very inconsistent throughout the playoffs. I thought one of Sheed's charges were pretty terrible. The one you are talking about was the most blatantly obvious one though. You can't elbow someone in the face on your way to the goal and NOT expect to get a charge called on you. The ones where DWade drew the two on him, I thought only one of them could have been called, but I thought they should have both been no calls, because DWade pulled out some straight up Vlade Divac shit. |

Mutombo: 4 points, 5 boards, 1 block off the bench
Houston: 12 points, 2 assists Hardaway: 7 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists off the bench Van Horn: 11 points, 5 rebs off the bench Rose: 19 points, 3 rebounds Sprewell: 13 points, 3 rebs Grant: 4 points, 4 rebounds off the bench Thomas: 12 points, 3 rebs Foyle: FIVE POINTS AND FIVE REBOUNDS. THIS GUY IS THE STARTING CENTER. (these were season averages) Cmon, even though I'll agree that all of those guys are overpaid, they are at least semi-productive. Adonal Foyle gets paid 7 million dollars to do absolutely NOTHING. |

As far as the contracts go. Its easy to say " Wow make them earn it ", but we would also be the same people that bash a guy when he wants to hold out, because he wants more money and he actually did earn it.
If the superstars of today have to play out there contracts then the superstars of yesterday should be held to the same standard. Why would you expect different from guys like Mutombo or Houston. You cant say " This guy makes too much money. He should re-negotiate" . Then say " This guy signed into that contract. He shouldnt hold out. He should honor that contract." I guess what i'm saying is you cant have it both ways. |

I'm just saying that nobody who matters predicted the White Sox to do anything this year, and anybody who says they did had no logical reasoning behind it. For the most part.
Outlaw, that is probably correct. I know LeBron (not on the list obviously), but he signed a contract near $100 million or something with Nike. So yeah you can get a hell of a lot of money outside of your playing contract, but thats not really what I mean. My beef is that the way the NBA works right now, a player has a somewhat good year (Adonal Foyle for example), then he gets signed to a huge contract and then sucks it up for the rest of his career because some dumbass like Isiah Thomas has money to throw around. If you look at that list, there are two shitty New York players in the top 25 paid for last season, and Marbury was up there too. They by far have the biggest payroll, but their team is utter shit. Then the other part of the problem, if a guy is worth two million or so, then he is coveted by a couple teams, instead of going to the place where he fits in best or has the best chance at winning, a team like the Knicks can just offer him 10 million and he goes there, has no more motivation to win, and thus ruins the league. Then to add onto that, the guy next season says "I was just as good as him and he got this contract, so I want the same"...INFLATION. I hate to say it but really Kevin Garnett started it all. I don't know if I would go as far as non-guaranteed contracts, but at least a hard cap would completely cut down on shitty overprices. Think about it, if a team can simply not spend over say 80 million, they are not going to sign a guy like Adonal Foyle to a big contract unless they know he's going to be good. He would have a pretty much set value, have a couple team offer him it, but a team like the Knicks wouldn't just put their foot in the door and offer him twice his worth. Also you couldn't have guys making like 30,000,000 without being on a losing team, so everything would balance out. The NBA really has issues and it was terribly exposed with Latrell Sprewell this season. He made it clear that he was worried about money rather then winning a championship, and made a laughingstock of the league by saying he needed to feed his family. The way it is set up is to just let guys get really rich and relax, and that takes away way too much of the passion that is what makes basketball great. |

This isn't playoffs but its NBA related. In our paper today it was said that out of respect for the way George Mikan paved the way for him, Shaq has offered to pay all of the funeral expenses. Thats a reason to like Shaq, you hear of him doing stuff like that much more then a lot of players. Not nearly as significant, but I heard a story about Mark Madsen showing up to Lakers camp in a minivan and Shaq went out and bought him a sweet car to welcome him to the NBA.

Also, Detroit was this team that could not hit their free throws, just like the Miz said. What happens, Detroit goes 6 for 6 in the last minute, and Rasheed Wallace, the goat that the media loved to tear apart, makes a critical basket in the last minute and 2 free throws. Wade goes 0 for 6 in the fourth and doesn't get a point. Don't get me wrong, I give Wade all the credit in the world. He took the needle and played. It's Shaw's fault that the Heat lost. I was listening to Jim Rome on the radio today, and he said it's time to take the S away from Shaq. He's not Superman anymore, he's effective, but not Superman. I agree with him 120%. Detroit proved all the doubters wrong. DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEETROIT BASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSKETBALLLLLLLLLLLLLLL |

Personally I would have been happy with whoever won, because both Miami and Detroit are cool teams and way cooler then San Antonio (although I'm not a particular fan of either of them).
The one thing that kind of takes away from this series though, is that Shaq and Wade both battled injury problems, so there is always going to be the "If we were healthy" excuse. I'm not saying that Miami is wrong in saying that, because in my opinion if Sam Cassell or even Troy Hudson were healthy last season, I can't imagine the Wolves losing to the Lakers in that series. But it just takes away from the whole thing, like that series wasn't difinative. On the positive note, I wouldn't be surprised to see the same two teams back here next year. I like Udonis Haslem, he seems pretty cool, but he is the kind of guy that you can tell would be pretty awful without Shaq. Maybe not awful, but the kind of guy who is going to get a big contract to Atlanta or something, and then just not do anything. BAH. Completely changing the topic, my friend and I were talking last night about the Kings. In a way, I could see them completely pulling a Timberwolves and sucking next year, but in another way they have a strong top 6. What will they do? In my opinion, they have to move Peja. It kinda seems like they move one or the other, and in my opinion I would much rather have Bibby, and Peja would probably bring a lot more back. I think they need a better forward then Brian Skinner, but who knows. Maybe Lamar Odom would be a good player there (but the Lakers would be retarded to make that trade). Do you think they make a trade and who for? |

The run and gun, crazy cowbell fans, Laker rival Kings are done. This team needs a new personality, I don't see why they don't trade Bibby and Stojakovic, both are past their primes but still have good trade value. Get some young guys in there and start rebuilding.

The Timberwolves need a new point guard, there are the rumors of Jason Kidd, which I think are highly unlikely, and recent rumors of Jason Williams, but if there was some way to pull it off I would love to have Bibby on the Wolves. I just don't think the Wolves have any guys worth a nickel on the trade market right now.

When you say "Fire Dick Bavetta" immediately after your team gets eliminated from the playoffs, one can only assume you're hinting that the refs cost the game. If not, be clearer next time.
Detroit did not miss a free throw in the final 4 minutes. Shaquille "I always hit them when they count" O'Neal missed one and Damon Jones missed one. In the regular season, Damon Jones shot 80% and Rasheed Wallace shot 70%. Rasheed nailed his with no problem and Jones went 1-of-2. In the final minutes of the 4th quarter, no matter what your percentage is, you HAVE to hit free throws. Sheed, Prince and Billups stepped up and Shaq and Jones didn't. Had the Heat had hit all the free throws like the Pistons had, it would have been a two-point game when they had the last shot, and I can assure you Van Gundy would actually have a play drawn up instead of Wade pulling up for a three. The little things are why the Pistons continue to win. |

Bavetta wouldn't call that foul on Rasheed when he was the ref right under the goal, and made the ref at HALFCOURT call it, which is why Sheed was bitching (and I don't blame him at all actually). I'm not blaming the game on him. He called a few charges (two on Shaq I think, and one on Wade) which could have easily been blocks or a no-call because the guys were sliding under them. They could have been three point plays, and it's a different game. I do agree though, the two free throws missed were HUGE. Not disagreeing there at all. I really try not to question reffing/umpiring because I have umpired games before, and it's real rough, and I can only imagine reffing a basketball game. Another question though - that foul on Antonio where Zo ended up falling into his knee. That just made me ![]() ![]() |

Can't wait. This is going to be an awesome series. It's how it's supposed to be: The two best teams in the league battling it out for the O'Brien Trophy.
First time since the Bird/Magic years that the previous two NBA champions have met in the NBA Finals. And I hope these two teams just keep making it, showing that defense and playing as a team is better than just feeding your superstar over and over and over. Obviously, I want the Pistons to win this, but if they have to lose to somebody, I'd rather it be San Antonio than anyone else in the league. |

Detroit sounds like the crybabies now. Wahhhhh Ginobli ran over my 6'9 280 pound center. Wahhhhhh It was a offensive fouls. Whatever. Detroit blew a great lead in San Antonio's house. Then they got worked. Yet all they can talk about is the block call.
Ginobli is becoming a superstar. He's creating his legend and i'm happy i get to see it. If he keeps this up i'm getting a silver Ginobli jersey! |

I've said this before and I know its premature but Ginobili = next Jordan.
I dunno. I just see the spark and determination in him every time he plays and he always does something that makes me go "holy shit". As long as he keeps healthy with the way he plays sometimes, he is going in the record books. |
