my main argument isn't about being the best player in baseball this year. (I'm assuming you're talking this year) Best player can be argued all day long. calling me bitter is pretty stupid.

he's has not been worth his contract and hasn't performed when he needed to preform the most. how are you guys not agreeing with this?

I'm curious about this and I wonder if someone here knows about this. A-Rod had a player option this year which is worth more money than he was making in his initial contract. Since he opted out he is available for free agency. Now does that mean that A-Rod can't sign with the Yankees at all? Because I was wondering if he's just becoming a free agent so the Yankees offer him a fresh contract worth way more than the player option.

He was pretty bad in the post season but I dunno he seemed to come up pretty big in the end of a lot games this past season (like hitting a homer of the guy who just closed out the World Series among others) to help the Yankees win a lot of ball games. The Yankees could still offer him a contract and sign him if they wanted. They've said they won't now that he's opted out and I kind of believe them. The way Boras and A-Rod opted out (not even meeting with the Yankees first) and the fact they cost the Yankees $21 million from Texas leads me to believe that bridge is burned. But if they wanted to they could.

He was pretty bad in the post season but I dunno he seemed to come up pretty big in the end of a lot games this past season (like hitting a homer of the guy who just closed out the World Series among others) to help the Yankees win a lot of ball games. That is something he wasn't doing when he first came to the Yankees. He is not worth his contract - probably but who is worth their contract? People say Pedoria is underpaid and he made more money this past season then I'll ever see in one year. The Yankees can afford to over pay him, so I don't see why it matters that he got paid a lot. I can't believe I am defending A-Rod here because he is on the biggest choke jobs I've seen but come on, no way the Yankees are better off without him.

Yankees wouldn't have even sniffed the playoffs without A-Rod. A-Rod is a huge bitch for announcing this during the World Series though (got a feeling it was mostly Boras though) Dude had 10 days after last night to announce it, and it gets announced during the 8th? Way to improve your already extremely selfish image lol

I think Yankees fans need to realize they aren't entitled to a championship every year
dunno, I don't agree with the "one man team" kind of thinking. I think the Yankees had enough weapons that helped them make the playoffs.

I guess we'll see next year. if they don't make the playoffs, maybe I'll eat my words. But hopefully they don't lose Mo and Posada and Pettite too.

Of course the loss of A-rod hurts the Yanks, but they need to rebuild now and that frees up money they could use for Santana or... spend less money and get (god, I hope not) Mike Lowell.

you're saying 95-2001 didn't have "big names" of course they did, most of it was pitching. Do you need the best 5-tool player in the game to make the playoffs no, but when you barely make the playoffs to downgrade from him, you wouldn't make it.

Now, make a few more changes and get rid of A-rod of course they could make the playoffs.

The yanks won the same way the sox won and other teams win... pitching and defense, That's where you need the big names again to compete.

Who cares where A-rod goes... if the Red Sox get Santana and you're looking at Santana and Beckett the next 5years just make the rings. NY gets him it's a different story.

I don't want to get into a big name arguement now. I just randomly looked at every player on the '98 team and there is not one big name there.

now, I'm sure our definitions of big names are prob different.

but yea , get rid of A-Rod, make some upgrades for the pitching and other places and we'll be good

Yeah, it really is. Watching him say how much he wanted to be here next year a couple weeks ago and then opting out the first chance he gets is pretty ridiculous. And Boras claims it was about the uncertainty about Posada, Mo and Pettitte? The Yankees might have been able to clear some of that up in the next 10 days if he hadn't opted out so quick. Just saying that is what pisses people off. Everyone knows its about the money so just says its about wanting to test free agency and the money, not because of Posada, Mo and Pettitte.

I feel like their would have still been a decent chance the Yankees would talk to him after opting out if it happened differently. Like maybe if he opted out that last day he could. Instead he apparently wouldn't meet with the Yankees about an extension first, which pretty much means that bridge is burned.

I've always liked the guy but its hard to respect him at times. Especially when he states he wants to be here and then won't even meet with the team before opting out. And Boras decides to text message the news to Cashman instead.

Also, some rumors about the Dodgers having interest in Torre. I wouldn't be surprised if Mattingly is his bench coach next year if Torre goes to LA. Seeing Mattingly in another uniform will be strange. At least Torre, A-Rod, Girardi, etc...All those guys were with other teams before.

He definitely used the uncertainty over the other free agents as an excuse. Everything I've been reading has said if A-Rod wanted to know the direction the club was going in, he had to return phone calls. Hank and Hal both called him this weekend and he didn't return either call.

I always tried to give him the benefit of the doubt and I have defended him on numerous occasions but this whole thing just sours me on A-Rod completely. I have been one of his biggest supporters and one of his biggest fans these past 4 years through it all, and now he just tells us to fuck off. I guess I was wrong for standing behind him. I was always aware of his issues but I felt that they should be overlooked for what he brings to the table, and I guess it's fans like that who kind of drove him away, but he's a grown fucking man and he should be able to put up with that crap.

This isn't just about money. If it were, A-Rod would have listened to what the Yankees had to say because they have deeper pockets than anyone else in baseball. Logic says he'll get the most money on an open market, but he already took the biggest spender out of the equation for good. Who knows if anyone is going to match what the Yankees could have given him? Even if he listened to what they had to say and opted out, the Yankees could have still bid on him, but he made it clear that he wants no part of New York.

Fucking dick clowning around with Melky Cabrera and Robinson Cano all year like he's their fucking pal and mentor or something then he says fuck you to everyone. At least go out with some class and listen to what YOUR TEAM has to offer.
