I don't want him unless he come to play. If he does, then he's more than welcome. But he has to be more than just a spectacle.

LOL. Still can't believe Boras announces this an hour before the Sox win the Series. Such a ridiculous thing to do considering he could do it any time in the next 10 days.
A-Rod opting out will have as much attention as the Red Sox winning the World Series tomorrow. |

Gonna be a bad morning for us Yankee fans today. Only good thing that might happen is choosing a good manager for us. |

And yea, A-Rod definately got us to the playoffs from 1995-2003. and in 2004 and 2006 when he had such great years. The Yankees have had so many weapons the last couple years. A-rod helped, yes, but he wasn't key or anything. you're logic is flawed in so many ways. Last edited by Loose Cannon; 10-29-2007 at 08:43 AM. |

ARod won't be going to Boston. Unless they're going to trade Varitek.

lol A-Rod is the best player in baseball, I know you are just a bitter Yankees fan right now since A-Rod never shows up in the playoffs but come on
Also YH, what makes you think Veritek needs to be traded for Boston to get A-Rod? Just curious since I am failing to see any type of connection |

my main argument isn't about being the best player in baseball this year. (I'm assuming you're talking this year) Best player can be argued all day long. calling me bitter is pretty stupid.
he's has not been worth his contract and hasn't performed when he needed to preform the most. how are you guys not agreeing with this? Last edited by Loose Cannon; 10-29-2007 at 11:58 AM. |

I'm curious about this and I wonder if someone here knows about this. A-Rod had a player option this year which is worth more money than he was making in his initial contract. Since he opted out he is available for free agency. Now does that mean that A-Rod can't sign with the Yankees at all? Because I was wondering if he's just becoming a free agent so the Yankees offer him a fresh contract worth way more than the player option.

Yankees wouldn't have even sniffed the playoffs without A-Rod. A-Rod is a huge bitch for announcing this during the World Series though (got a feeling it was mostly Boras though) Dude had 10 days after last night to announce it, and it gets announced during the 8th? Way to improve your already extremely selfish image lol I think Yankees fans need to realize they aren't entitled to a championship every year Last edited by Jesus Shuttlesworth; 10-29-2007 at 02:28 PM. |

I'm even more confused, you seem to say he got you to the playoffs in 2004 and 2006, but not the last couple of years? that only leaves 2005 and 2007... 2007, let's be honest, take him away replace him with an average or even good/above average 3rd baseman... NYY doesn't make the playoffs in 2007. is he worth the money? as Stima said, who is... that's subjective to selling tickets and mechandise or an owners desire to win since there is no salary cap. Of course the loss of A-rod hurts the Yanks, but they need to rebuild now and that frees up money they could use for Santana or... spend less money and get (god, I hope not) Mike Lowell. |

You know A-Rod's probably waiting to see what kind of reaction the media and fans are going to give this announcement and then basing his decision to go back to New York off of that. If they jump all over him and are like "Fuck A-Rod we never wanted him good riddance" then he'll say "Alright see ya I don't need this anymore."

Vel: yea, you completely missed the sarcasm. 2004 and 2006 were not good years for him hence the sarcasm. His only good years were 2005 and 2007.
and yes, replace A-Rod with....let's say Aramis and yea, they make the playoffs. didn't you watch 95-2001? you don't need "big name" players to win. That's been one of my points all along Last edited by Loose Cannon; 10-29-2007 at 05:18 PM. |

I love how A-Rod cites "uncertainty on whether Posada, Rivera, and Pettite will come back" as his main reason for opting out when its clearly about money.
A-Rod would go to KC if they agreed to give him $50 million a year |

As many of you know by now, Joe Girardi has been offered the job. We're just waiting for a yes or a no.
Don Mattingly will not return. The Twins are going to retain the services of Joe Nathan. |

you're saying 95-2001 didn't have "big names" of course they did, most of it was pitching. Do you need the best 5-tool player in the game to make the playoffs no, but when you barely make the playoffs to downgrade from him, you wouldn't make it. Now, make a few more changes and get rid of A-rod of course they could make the playoffs. The yanks won the same way the sox won and other teams win... pitching and defense, That's where you need the big names again to compete. Who cares where A-rod goes... if the Red Sox get Santana and you're looking at Santana and Beckett the next 5years just make the rings. NY gets him it's a different story. |

I don't want to get into a big name arguement now. I just randomly looked at every player on the '98 team and there is not one big name there.
now, I'm sure our definitions of big names are prob different. but yea , get rid of A-Rod, make some upgrades for the pitching and other places and we'll be good |

All I can say is A-Rod pretty much said "fuck off" to New York. I can't really blame him but it hurts as one of the Yankee fans who has stood behind him through the good and the bad.
He looks like a huge douche for all the comments he made all season long about loving New York and about how special it is to be a Yankee. Well, go out and get more fucking money and have fun playing April through September. |

I feel like their would have still been a decent chance the Yankees would talk to him after opting out if it happened differently. Like maybe if he opted out that last day he could. Instead he apparently wouldn't meet with the Yankees about an extension first, which pretty much means that bridge is burned. I've always liked the guy but its hard to respect him at times. Especially when he states he wants to be here and then won't even meet with the team before opting out. And Boras decides to text message the news to Cashman instead. |

Also, some rumors about the Dodgers having interest in Torre. I wouldn't be surprised if Mattingly is his bench coach next year if Torre goes to LA. Seeing Mattingly in another uniform will be strange. At least Torre, A-Rod, Girardi, etc...All those guys were with other teams before.

He definitely used the uncertainty over the other free agents as an excuse. Everything I've been reading has said if A-Rod wanted to know the direction the club was going in, he had to return phone calls. Hank and Hal both called him this weekend and he didn't return either call.
I always tried to give him the benefit of the doubt and I have defended him on numerous occasions but this whole thing just sours me on A-Rod completely. I have been one of his biggest supporters and one of his biggest fans these past 4 years through it all, and now he just tells us to fuck off. I guess I was wrong for standing behind him. I was always aware of his issues but I felt that they should be overlooked for what he brings to the table, and I guess it's fans like that who kind of drove him away, but he's a grown fucking man and he should be able to put up with that crap. This isn't just about money. If it were, A-Rod would have listened to what the Yankees had to say because they have deeper pockets than anyone else in baseball. Logic says he'll get the most money on an open market, but he already took the biggest spender out of the equation for good. Who knows if anyone is going to match what the Yankees could have given him? Even if he listened to what they had to say and opted out, the Yankees could have still bid on him, but he made it clear that he wants no part of New York. Fucking dick clowning around with Melky Cabrera and Robinson Cano all year like he's their fucking pal and mentor or something then he says fuck you to everyone. At least go out with some class and listen to what YOUR TEAM has to offer. |
