Pain in the ass that you can't match-make for raids, but that site worked for me to find a raid group once.

So glad the Banner has Etheric Light. Just wish I had more time to grind all 3 characters to get all six.

Bungie definitely needs to reconsider its matchmaking stance. Truth is, the Raids require just enough people where you cant always bank on THAT many friends playing and being game to raid.
The PoE is similar, but for the opposite reason in that the odds are your friends are probably already playing it with two other buddies of theirs. |

First trip into the level 32 PoE throws you in the deep end big time. Unless you bang out some a couple of nightfalls and get lucky in the level 28 PoE and get some etheric light, you got your hands full.
First foray with the lfg app, too. 1 guy had a mic and knew what he was doing. Other was mute and hard to deal with. Got all the way to the end before we got tired. Anyway, good to have either friends with coordination or some suped up exotics. Lesson learned. |

This week, you have to make sure you can communicate to ensure someone has the Jailbreaker buff--which also requires picking the god damn mob out of a pile of Vex and not killing it too early--dealing with an infinite flood of Vex, and trying to get damage in on a boss who has a lot of cover. I promise this week was a bit of an outlier. It's probably fair to expect everyone to have a mic and to communicate, but other weeks have been pretty easily pick-uppable. I got through this week with a solidly communicating group of people I've never spoken to before or since. I get by okay with Icebreaker, since it lets me chip away without having to run around and grab ammo. People always want Gjallahorn in there, and it certainly makes things easier, but it's not mandatory. This is a rough week, for sure, but you should give it another shot and hopefully find two people that can actually communicate. If not or it doesn't go well, don't get too discouraged, this week is kind of rough. |

Woot! 34!
Still need to grind glimmer and rank up the other characters in the Banner. Won't make out with all six Etheric Light, but I don't have to work tomorrow, so I can at least get five. With that, I can push up some alternate gear so I don't have to wear one specific combo to maintain my light, and maybe ascend my Oversoul Edict. I should actually raid more to max that gun as well... but don't run pulse rifles that often and only really think about it if I'm doing the Omnigul strike. ClockShot and Dark One: what kinda hours you guys keep? Maybe we can drop in a PoE round sometime. Will warn you, I still don't have a Gjallahorn, but continues the running gag of getting Patience & Time... it's like the game isn't so much giving me the rifle as it is taunting me with those words. "Oh, you want a Gally? Patience & Time, young grasshopper! " |

Wooo! Under the wire, and thanks to the "catch up" system in place for leveling secondary characters in Iron Banner, I *just* got all six etheric lights before the reset hit (about 10 min to spare). Had a scare for a bit, because my game bugged and it wouldn't let me buy the level 5 ones for awhile. As it happened while attempting to buy #3, I initially assumed Bungie capped it at two per player and not per character, and just didn't explain that clearly (as they are apt to do). However, after a few characfer swaps and a crash ("weasel"), it seemed to have fixed itself, and I was able to proceed as planned.
I'm really glad there was an alternative to scouting strangers for high level Prison runs, or the longshot (for me) of getting enough wins in the Trials. I like playing PvP, but I'm not particularly good at it. Too bad I'll have to wait another month to ascend more gear. |

New expansion coming out in September will be called The Taken King. Big boss will be Oryx, Crota's father and head honcho of the Hive. Each class will be getting a new subclass, too.

Does it better. Its faster, and you can move items from one character to another as opposed to moving to vault then to character.

The PS4 PSn pre-order of the expansion pack comes with the pre-order bonus of locking you out of playing the game. Best pre-order bonus yet.

Brace yourselves for one of the most infuriating interviews in gaming history. Bungie's Luke Smith, usually a cool guy, attempts to defend The Taken King's SKU approach and pricing.
______________________________________________________________ Eurogamer: So it may seem like a small thing but you're adding exclusive content to the game - three new dance emotes - that players can't get unless they rebuy the main game and the two existing DLCs. Is that right? Luke Smith: There is no way right now for you to get the new dance emotes without doing that. Those are Collector's Edition exclusive. We've set some stuff aside for that edition specifically to really make it appeal to fans who have engaged with the game already and also to people that will enter the game this autumn. Eurogamer: Can you see that some fans are confused that you're asking them to buy stuff they already own? Luke Smith: Yeah, I can totally empathise with those people. But the Collector's Edition is a pretty cool package for people who want to pursue that stuff. Otherwise, surely what you're saying is that you would want to buy them separately, right? Eurogamer: Well, yeah. I would rather do that - pay a few pounds or dollars or whatever - than spend money on things I already own. Luke Smith: [Laughs] Well, we have nothing more to talk about regarding your opportunity to spend extra money in Destiny, other than The Taken King and the three versions we've announced. Eurogamer: Is Bungie considering selling customisation items such as this separately? Or is that against the studio's philosophy for the game? Luke Smith: Rather than comment on the Bungie philosophy, here's what I'll tell you. If someone made a golf clap emote, I would spend money on that. Like when someone falls in the Vault of Glass. At the moment I bow when I'm trying to mess with them. So... I empathise with some of the things you're saying. Eurogamer: I feel like you should put some of these things that you are empathising with into practice. Luke Smith: We have nothing to announce today. We're reading the forums and the reactions to this week's announcements. We will continue to discuss player feedback with respect to the the game and Collector's Edition content. Eurogamer: Taken King costs £39.99, which is almost same as base game. Does its content justify that? Luke Smith: I'm going to use American dollars, because British pounds are just foreign to me... Eurogamer: Literally foreign. Luke Smith: Indeed, an ocean away. So, purchasers get a big, rich campaign. Fully voiced cinematics and the story of what happens when an angry alien god wages war on a solar system, all with a satisfying conclusion. You also have a new subclass to pursue and unlock. We also have a bunch of new strikes - we're not yet talking about how many - and a new raid. We're showing two new PVP modes and four PVP maps this week, and it's a fairly safe bet we're not done yet showing things off. So I'm fairly excited about the value proposition. We're calling this a major expansion because it is. We're giving people a whole new place to go, that new destination... Eurogamer: I get that it is big but it is also the same price as the base game. That had four areas rather than one and more missions than the Taken King. Why is it the same price? [Thank god he shut that PR bullshit down - KxT] Luke Smith: All I can do is answer that with the same thing I just gave you... We're really comfortable with the value we're giving to players this autumn. I believe that once we begin to share more, players will be even more excited. And for existing players it also comes with the Founder's pack with a new Sparrow, shader and emblem. 2 Oryx, father of Crota. He isn't too pleased with you. Eurogamer: Just not the emotes. Luke Smith: It doesn't because they come with the Collector's Edition.[!! ![]() Eurogamer: Final question on prices - Luke Smith: Is it also the final question on the emotes? Eurogamer: I'm not going to mention them again. I can't get them. Luke Smith: But you can if you buy the Collector's Edition. Eurogamer: I'm not going to buy the game and the two DLCs all over again. Luke Smith: Okay, but first I want to poke at you on this a little bit. Eurogamer: Poke at me? Luke Smith: You're feeling anxious because you want this exclusive content but you don't know yet how much you want it. The notion of spending this money is making you anxious, I can see it - Eurogamer: I do want them. I would buy them - Luke Smith: If I fired up a video right now and showed you the emotes you would throw money at the screen. Eurogamer: What I'm saying is that fan frustration is not because they don't understand the proposition. It comes regardless of how cool the exclusive content is. The frustration - and mine as a fan - is that the method of acquiring it requires me to re-buy content I bought a year ago. Luke Smith: [Long pause] It's about value. The player's assessment of the value of the content. [ ![]() Eurogamer: Final question on prices - The Taken King and everything released so far comes at a significant price reduction for people who want to jump in to Destiny this September. All games do Game of the Year editions now - I understand that, that's not really an issue. But when you look at the reduction involved - it's barely any more than just buying The Taken King solo. Luke Smith: This autumn we want to have a moment of convergence where players like you and me who are engaged with Destiny can match up with people who are just joining in, who didn't pick the game up last year for one reason or another. It's also important to remember the temporal valuation of content. If you played during The Dark Below, you were playing when there were Swordbearers everywhere. That's now gone and you can't recapture that now.[ ![]() ![]() We don't have a way to go back in time and experience those things again. So the players who were there can say 'I was here when...' and 'I did it when it was new'. [Says no Destiny player ever. - KxT] I wish I had a way of better telling players that I was there back then. That I had a better way of embracing the legacy of my time with the game. This is something that we on the development team talk about all the time. It's really important that we figure out ways to embrace the legacy that players created in the first year... I'm not going to talk about how we're going to do that but it is right in the forefront of our brains. It's missing right now in Destiny. [Abstract lunacy - KxT] _________________________________________________________________ So there you have it. |

I mean, telling people they should buy the game and dlc again for exclusive content is flat out fucking insulting, I get it. But are people really that upset over a couple emoticons? Could understand if it was a badass looking outfit or speeder bike.

It's really the tipping point of a year of Bungie making completely strange decisions that very rarely sync up with what players want. This was the straw that broke the Fallen Dreg.

Who the hell cares about emotes? Really?
But its a retarded concept that Bungie has taken. Why is there not a collector edition for the expansion alone that would offer these rewards? Seems rather dumb. |

Part that stuck out to me, besides the obvious (honestly, don't care about the dance emotes, but the concept is a shitty precident to set) is the trying to spin the "I was there when..." nonsense, when there really isn't some token form of nostalgia.
I mean, i can see if PvP maps went away, or certain exotics stopped dropping after so long, but I still have access to the same shit people got at launch, and I just got it after Christmas. Especially the "Swordbearer" example... Bungie initially made it sound like their removal was accidental and unintentional, and that the Wolf events "won't replace those"... then, their "fix" was to just mention swordbearers still appear in one scripted campaign mission and proceeded to say the wolves are indeed replacing the swords. It may end up this will (eventually) be much ado about nothing, as, after all the PR spin, vague announcements, silence on questions that let speculation run wild, backpedaling, and possibly even straight up misinformation, this stuff will be worked out and the people who already own shit won't feel slighted by the company trying to attract new players by adding shiny bells and whistles and telling current players they're just SOL. Granted, getting bent up over extra dances sounds trivial, but the idea of adding content that won't be available to people who already bought the thing unless is a little unnerving. It's up there with Jim Sterling's rant about the exclusive Amiibo content for Splatoon- content unavailable by any other means than to track down a physical toy that Nintindo themselves made rarer than pure precious stones. |

I wish it didn't have to be about the money but it is. I got peer pressured into getting the DLC (£35) so I didn't think too much about it but this is just madness. Trying to charge £40 for something we know will be sparse as anything in a season when there are going to be more massive games than anything is madness.
I'm dipping into Destiny quite a bit just as my everyday shooter, thanks to a friend as well, but there is always this air of Bungie loving the smell of their own farts. They speak so highly of their epic worlds that always feel really bare and confusing. People get really, really into Halo lore when I've played every Halo game and still have no clue what's going on between go here, go here, go here, fight the Proper Noun |

Interested to see if they give a shit what their consumer base thinks over the next few days/weeks. Clearly the fuckface promoting the new DLC and EMOTES didn't care, or was just putting the PR spin on it because it is his job in that setting. |

They have created something that's truly a skinner box, moreso than most other RPGs, so they're probably quite confident that the money will roll in and you might as well gouge the faithful.

Bungie backtracked on some of the stuff previously announced for the upcoming expansion pack. Got rid of the issue or needing to rebuy stuff again and lowered the pack's price.
