He needs to skip a start. He throws sooo many innings, he is either tired at hurt. If he rests and still sucks this much, if I were Macha I'd go with Zito-Harden-Hudson as my 3 man playoff rotation. Mulder and Redman have been automatic L's the past few weeks.

Glad to see the Yankees rotation getting good again. Vazquez finally squashed his losing streak the other night. He was so awesome the first half he'd really gone off track. Mussina has thrown 2 beauties in a row. And El Duque has been second only to Johan Santana in the AL this second half. Hell even Jon Lieber has been solid for us these last few months, he's come up with some big wins, always throws strikes

Granted Vazques' end came against the Royals, but if it was a mental thing more than a delivery thing then thats a good situation.

Harden is unproven and young. He's had a hot second half, so I would probably stick him in middle relief. |

I wouldn't take him out of the playoff rotation. Rest him now and then put him back in the playoffs.

He's been their ace all season long. He's wearing out a little bit, so maybe you give him a couple more days rest before he pitches the first game of the playoffs, but you don't take him OUT of the playoff rotation. It would shatter his confidence. He'd demand a trade. He's been great for a good portion of the season. He's one of the best workhorses in baseball. |

So, let's take a look at the starting playoff rotations for AL teams:
YANKEES Vazquez Mussina El Duque 4 GUY: Brown A's: Mulder Zito Hudson 4 GUY: Harden TWINS: Santana Radke Rogers 4 GUY: Lohse RED SOX: Schilling Martinez Lowe 4 GUY: Arroyo I think all four of these teams have pretty strong rotations. The Yankees' pitching seems to be straightening out a bit, with Vazquez and Mussina pitching well recently and El Duque on the 8-0 tear that he's on. But it's still suspect. We do know, however, that the Yankees have an excellent bullpen, and the bullpen plays a big role in the playoffs. Oakland looks good, but these guys never win in the playoffs. Mulder, as stated, is wearing out. Zito is heating up but he was terrible in the first half. Hudson is always reliable, and Harden and Redman are great insurance. Minnesota might have the most underrated rotation in baseball, or the most overrated. Depends on how they fare in the playoffs. Santana is of course lights out. Radke has been excellent this season, and I think he'll do well in the playoffs. Kenny Rogers is 16-8 but he started out 12-2, and he's lucky he's got run support. Kyle Lohse is decent insurance. They could either be surprisingly great or get lit up every non-Santana night. The Red Sox have Schilling and Pedro as their 1-2, which makes them REALLY hard to beat, especially in a five-game series. So, all four AL teams are pretty evenly matched. I say the best pitching goes to Oakland and Boston. The best offense goes to Boston and the Yankees. The best bullpen goes to the Yankees and the Twins. The best defense goes to the Twins and Boston. Should be an interesting playoff. |

Are you a complete dunce? Kenny Rogers has been on the Rangers all season and was making plenty of headlines as one of the first pitchers with 11 wins. How you missed that one I have no idea.
Terry Mulholland will be our third starter, left right left, and then probably Silva unless he is injured. Bold Prediction: The ALCS won't be Yankee's vs Red Sox again. One team will for sure be there, and I don't think it will be the Yankees. |

Ahhh, I always do that. I keep thinking Rogers is on Minnesota. Sorry about that. Yeah, so the Twins probably have the worst pitching of all the teams mentioned.
Personally, the Yankees and Red Sox look like the clear cut favorites in the AL. |

Actually, the Twins have the lowest team ERA in the AL.
Johan Santana is a lock for the Cy Young. Brad Radke has been around top 10 lowest ERA's all season, but no run support. Rincon-Romero-Balfour-Nathan = Best bullpen in the AL Nathan has established himself as one of the leagues elite closers this season. Our #3 and #4 starters aren't as good, but if you are expecting ace showing from Derek Lowe and Bronson Arroyo you are a real optimist. They will pitch good, but they won't shut down anybody. The Yankee's had two pitchers pitching well, one punched a wall, and now they have one. The Twins beat Mussina last year when he was pitching great. Vazquez has been having control problems. I'm the first to admit that we have the weakest #3 and #4 playoff pitchers, but its not like thats a strong point in any AL team besides the A's this year. |

Playoff Yankees with Pettite, Clemens, Wells, and Mussina yeah.
This Yankees team isn't built the same way it was when they won the championships, hence why they haven't won it all in a while. They are an offensive team now. Defense and pitchiing wins games. |
