It's not just the Panthers. The overall selling market is ridiculously high in general.

p.s. I haven't heard anything regarding Alexei Kovalev.

p.p.s. Breaking news: Richard Zednik traded. Good trade for both teams.

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=197782&hubname=nhl

The Washington Capitals have acquired a second-round pick in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft from the New York Islanders in exchange for right wing Richard Zednik.

Zednik, 31, was acquired from Montreal on July 12, 2006, for a third-round pick in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. He appeared in 32 games for Washington this season, registering 18 points (six goals and 12 assists).

The native of Banks Bystrica, Slovakia, missed a total of 31 games this year due to injury.

Thats an interesting deal. This time of the year is so exciting for hockey. I'm excited to see who else will be dealt in the next few hours.

Brent Sopel is heading back to the Canucks. This explains why the Smolinski deal was held up. Nonis needs Chouinard to clear waivers so his salary is removed from the cap eqaution.

By tomorrow, the Canucks will be able to offcially have Smolinski . Brent is to pair up with Ohlund again. This will pair up Salo with whoever suites up in the 6th spot.

Personally? I'm not a HUGE fan of getting Sopel back. Sopel shows flashes of brilliance, but makes too many mistakes. He's a definite upgrade over Rory Fitzpatrick however. I much rather would have seen the Canucks go after a stay-at-home physical defenseman, but oh well.

I don't think I'll be able to sleep tonight. Looks like the Canucks are pretty much done with their deals (aside from the possible addition of Gelinas), but it should be an interesting day tommorow.

A lot of teams are making a lot of moves this year. These playoffs are going to be unbelievable. I am so excited for the playoffs it is ridiculous. Now I need my Bruins to keep winning and get into that 8th spot. Hopefully they can make a few moves at the deadline, something big would be nice. I just don't want them to give up too much. I havn't heard one thing about them in any big player sweepstakes but you never know.

A couple trades have already went down. Martin Biron went to Philadelphia, Ty Conklin went to Buffalo, and George Laraques waived his no trade clause to go the Pittsburgh. San Jose gave up a first round pick, the one that got from Jersey in the Malkhov deal, to get Bill Guerin. Teams are sure quick to give up first rounders these days.

Official. Bertuzzi to Detroit for a conditional pick and a prospect.

TSN is reporting Toronto and Phoenix may have reached a deal for Yanic Perreault.

Not really sure I understand the Biron/Conklin switch from Buffalo's standpoint unless they have something major up their sleeve that they need cap room for.

They're trying to get Jagr maybe?

Ah that's not bad. Zubrus would've been my 2nd guess.

I wonder if Sather dangling Jagr out there as trade bait now will actually result in anything huge. He's a $4.9M hit on the salary cap but that's not too terrible.

A very crazy trade deadline. Really surprised that Smyth was traded. There playoffs are WIDE open. Bruins picked up two good D men and got rid of shitty, overpaid Mara. A pretty good deadline for them. Boyes is an under achiever and was expendable.

I can't wait for the playoffs.

I'm suprised Smyth went to NYI, I figured if he was gonna be traded it would be to a powerhouse like Anaheim or something... Not to be a prick cause my team (Toronto) aren't sitting much better, but why are you looking forward to the playoffs? It's really unlikely Boston's gonna be there.

Why am I looking forward to the playoffs? I am looking forward to the playoffs because I am a huge hockey fan. The playoffs are unreal and even if the Bruins don't make it then that's ok. Just because my team isn't doing so hot doesn't make me hate hockey all of a sudden.

Good call... I don't think the Leafs are making it this year either, but I'm really interested to see what the Penguins and Isles do in the playoffs, I think they're gonna be the upset teams for sure.

I think the Smyth deal is the biggest shock of the day. My Devils didn't do much as they don't have the cap room to really do anything. They did send David Hale to Calgary, so hopefully they will finally be able to activate Richard Matvichuk.

Also pretty glad Mara is gone. He didn't really do anything good for the team.

In all honesty, I'm suprised we got Bertuzzi. I'm happy about it, but still shocked.

Also Kyle Calder, who we traded for in exchange for Jason Williams has scored in the 1st period. Really happy about that one

Ryan Smith is not overrated. As a guy that sees him play a lot of his games, I can tell you this with certainty. I had a feeling he would be traded. Too bad he's going to a team that is dysfunctional.

If anything Ryan Smyth doesn't get nearly the amount of credit he deserves.

No one has ever said he was an offensive dynamo. He's a heart and soul kinda guy. He's a 30-40 goal scorer that plays hurt, fights through tough opposition, that leads by example. He reminds me very much of a Doug Gilmour type guy. Doug had better play making abilities, but he was the same way - fearless and dedicated.

Ryan Smyth is amazing

I would kill to have him on the Bruins and give 110% night in and night out

Hard to feel sorry for a franchise that doesn't make itself attractive to free agents. Hard to feel sorry for a franchise that won 5 Stanley Cups.
