You know watching these videos, I have to wonder how it feels being THAT good. Like seriously, you look back at Michael Jordan, the ABSOLUTE BEST at what he did. It's the same with Shawn, once he stepped through those ropes, he was the ABSOLUTE BEST. Guys wanted to wrestle Shawn Michaels, because he made everyone look good. I can't even imagine how it feels to know that of your match with Diesel, or Razor, or Yoko, or Taker, or Foley or anyone... was the best match of their career; and everyone knows you were responsible for it being such. Not because they were necessarily bad, but because you were so much better than anyone else they'd ever face...

Just unreal to think about...

In my opinion, even guys the caliber of Jericho and Angle had their best matches with Shawn.

Cena's best match to date that I've seen was with Shawn. Not sure about HHH, but it's damn close at the very least.

Austin's best match could have been with Shawn, had Shawn not been injured when they did face, and then take time off after that.
Even still, they had two fantastic matches.

Think about his Summerslam match with Hogan. It was NOWHERE NEAR Shawn's best match, and it was arguably the best of Hogan's career.

Agreed... it's just something that I can't even fathom feeling. A match that was "just a Monday" for you, was the best match of someone's career. Didn't matter who it was you wrestled, you elevated the match that much.

I just watched that. My god I am straight balling my eyes out. You gotta understand, I started watching wrestling back in 1996, and heel or face (even though I did not know what each was at the time) I loved Shawn Michaels. When he lost to Austin, I was sure his career was over. When he returned in 2002 to the NwO, I was so happy. And now, I feel empty. I watch wrestling for Randy Orton, Taker, HHH, CM Punk, Jericho, and Edge. Orton's the future, hands down. Taker's retiring soon, same with HHH. Jericho's getting up there, Edge is one injury away from having to retire. And CM Punk is CM Punk. I honestly do not know what to feel. Flair tarnished his legacy and what McMahon did for him. HBK will not do the same.

Agreed minus the Hogan match part. That match was a parody. Hogan's best match was easily against Savage at WM 5. But most people seem to have had their best match with Shawn, no doubt about that.

I'm not a huge follower now a days, but when I do I feel like Orton could definitely shoulder the load in the future over most anyone else.

Anyone find it ironic that on March 29th 1998 Shawn Michaels wrestled lost the title to Steve Austin at Wrestlemania XIV which would prove to be his last match in the WWE for over 4 years.

On March 29th 2010 Shawn Michaels says good-bye to wrestling and retires.

He left the WWE two diffrent times on the same day, 12 years apart.

I'd also like to add the identity of the Royal Rumble to the list. The dude is synonymous with the Royal Rumble.

How often do people talk about the time he entered first and won the thing? Even into his veteran years, he was always the sentinmental pick in the Rumble and everyone would mark out when he entered.

And you know what, for those 12 years, I think I truly lived as a wrestling fan thanks to HBK. I'll never forget the night he won the Elimination Chamber to become champ. Cut all the Kliq bullshit and anything people are going to say about him. That man had not held either World title since the end of 2002. That's how much this man loved this business. Didn't need the World title to satisfy or cement his legacy. For that, I will be forever thankful to him, for not being the selfish prick that some of these wrestlers feel that they need or deserve to be World Heavyweight champions

That's ten matches right there. Not even counting the ones with Diesel and Cena which were decent I guess.

Think of gimmick matches. What's the best of each type? More often than not, he was in it.

Hmm....

Ladder Match? Check.
Hell in a Cell? Check.
Elimination Chamber? Check.
Iron Man? Check.
Last Man Standing? Probably a check here too.

What other gimmick matches are there? I guess Steel Cage but that has to be Bret/Owen

no, to his fans of jewish, islamic or any other religious backgrounds that don't believe that Jesus is the messiah. i know he's pretty fanatical about his born again christian bullshit, but to alienate thousands of fans like that in your final wrestling sendoff is either very ignorant, or very disrespectful to a portion of your fan base.

LOL.

I'm a "non-believer" and I didn't think anything of this. Shawn had about 20 minutes to say whatever he wanted and I feel it was the most tasteful and appropriate segment on Raw in a long time. He became a better person and a better performer because of it and I will not bring my atheism into what I watch on television.

I didn't realize how much I would miss HBK until he lost at Wrestlemania on Sunday. The latest installment of DX kind of fucked me up.

I got to see the very first Hell in a Cell match in 1997. Undertaker v. HBK w/ Kane ruining it for the deadman. That was probably one of the coolest live events ever.

Even still, they had two fantastic matches.

Think about his Summerslam match with Hogan. It was NOWHERE NEAR Shawn's best match, and it was arguably the best of Hogan's career.
Nah Austin and Hart had much better chemistry together and the matches they had were way better together then either the KOTR or WM match Austin had with HBK. Greatest WM match of all time. WM13.

I believe the greatest WM match of all time was the Iron Man Match at WM12 between Bret and Shawn. A pure wrestling classic.

While I'm not going to agree wholeheartdely, I will agree in part. Bret and Austin had fantastic chemistry - both had better chemistry with each other than they did with Shawn. WM13 was magic, plain and simple. Best non-HBK match of all time, IMO.

But the fact that I have to say "best non-HBK match" is why HBK is on a level by himself. HBK brought the best out of nearly everyone he was paired with. He made Taker look like gold (not hard to do) and dragged a very good match out of Hogan when Hogan could barely move (very tough to do). Hell, he told a fascinating story with Vince at WM24, and made a 5* classic with Shelton Benjamin on an episode of RAW.

While some pairings will have amazing chemistry (like Bret and Austin), there will never be someone as good as Shawn in terms of making the absolute best out of nearly each and every person he faces. The thing that is most amazing is that over the past 2 or 3 years we've all come to expect Shawn to be the best, and he still delivered up to his very last match. I never once was left disappointed by a Shawn Michaels match - that is why he is the greatest of all time. Period.

Downloading a torrent now of Wrestlemanias 1-25, says it has 5 days left because there are only 3 seeders.

That was the real tear-jerker. I will wake up in the morning and still not believe it. Heaven only knows what I'll think when I watch RAW next week, knowing that the HBK segment that I've watched for as long as I've been a wrestling fan won't be coming.

Hey, Love HBK as a wrestler too, but I think there's two people you can say that about, and one of them includes Bret. Especially in the 90's,...look at all the wrestlers he gave their best matches to. He could go with them all.

Yoko, Bam bam, Mr Perfect, Owen, Bulldog, Piper, Diesel, Lawler, Backlund, Hakushi, Austin. Had Bret not had that stroke, he would have been wrestling longer and still puting up match of the year contenders...he was barely trying in wcw and still gave great matches to DDP, Sting, Savage, and had the match of the year with Benoit. At about the age HBK is at now.

They're both great.
