I guess Brian Cashman had his balls cut off. Was just reading a piece that all deals had to get approval from the front office. Which sucks because he's supposed to be his own boss to a degree.

Phillies close out the Winter Meetings by aquiring Ben Revere from the Twins for Vance Worley and Trevor May.

Braves sign Reed Johnson

James Loney signs with the Rays. 1-year, $2 mil. + $1 mil. in incentives.

Boston keeps spending away. Koji Uehara signs for 1-year, $4.25 mil.

That's the major news for the time being. Stay tuned to see if FackYouk goes home or goes to the enemy, Zack Greinke gets anxiety meds included in his deal, and if this 4-team super trade has a pulse and can top the Great Boston Bailout.

Think its possible he could play in a Chicago market although probably only as a White Sox player. Cubs media would probably rip him to shreds.

Only reason LA has worked out for him is due to the Angels only being an LA team in name only and not as an actual big market team. Would have been a lot different had gone to the Dodgers first.

Anything that helps out the dreadful bullpen of the last 2 years is always great. He'd replace Aceves as the main setup man while Aceves either gets traded is kept for depth.

It's not am argument, its a discussion. I want to know what you think. You have an opinion on my opinion I'm sure, and I want to know what it is.

I always leave open the possibility I might be wrong when it comes to my own thoughts and beliefs and I enjoy other trains of thought as long as proper logic can be provided to support it.

Not to mention its fun to debate. That's one of two reasons why Baseball is the greatest sport.

I feel that Hamilton going to NYY, while I would support it, would be a publicized human experiment to test Hamiltons will power and discipline.

4 years ago I thought James Loney was a building block type player. Not a ton of power but just an all around baller.

Sad to see he fell off Really thouight out of the Kemp, Loney, Ethier class of young dodgers that he would be the best.

While I never thought loney would be better than the other two, I did think he had the chance to be a john olerud/wally joyner/mark grace type. In other words, a very under valued guy.

It does give me hope that the rays signed him. I always think they know something the rest of the league dosent. Then again I thought the same about another 1B, Brandon Allen.

I wouldn't say they made him into a major threat last year. His whole deal is Adam Dunn light (Fewer homers, slightly worse obp, but great glove, historically speaking anyway) and he had his worst season in quite some time last year. The 330 obp dosent cut it unless you hit 40 bombs. Like Dunn, he's got old slow man skills which means he likely washes out sooner than later. I wouldn't be surprised if he's done, but someone should take a flyer on him.

Pena was on his way out of the majors until he took off in Tampa 5 or so years ago.

Ah I see what you mean.

Always found it funny that in the Moneyball movie they make a huge deal out of dealing Pena when it turns out he's a moneyball type player anyway.

That is something I've always wanted to see, because he can crank them with the best. I remember a shot he had to dead center in Cincinnatti that was about 500ft. and it was pretty damn cool. The Big Donkey is definitely country strong.

Ryan Ludwick staying with the Reds for another 2 years, $15 million deal.

Ryan Dempster rejects a 2 year, $25 million offer from the Red Sox and a 2 year, $26 million offer from the Royals. He wants 3 years as a minimum with the Cubs and Brewers willing to give him it.

Phillies rejected a trade with the Red Sox which would have sent Jacoby Ellsbury to the Phillies in return for Cliff Lee to the Red Sox.

That's a nice pick up for the Phil's if its going to happen. Ludwick sticking with the Reds is also an underrated signing. He's very good for them.

I guess. Not a fan of Young, but again, there are so few 3B out there right now. I don't like the idea that you are basically hoping that his BAIBP goes back up to provide the value with the bat. Not a HR threat, not a speed guy, and a poor defender.....he makes contact, but needs to get lucky. Not a bad deal, but like I said, not big on the guy.

Michael Young agrees to trade to Phillies

After 13 seasons and more than 1,800 games – the entirety of his big-league career – in a single organization, Michael Young agreed Saturday to waive his no-trade rights and leave the Texas Rangers for the Philadelphia Phillies.

With his permission, Young has been traded to the Phillies for reliever Josh Lindblom and minor-league right-hander Lisalverto Bonilla, and become their primary third baseman. The Rangers are expected to pay as much as $10 million of Young’s $16 million salary for 2013.

Agree with Frank on the Young trade. He's also 36, and his best years are behind him. I don't get this move at all. Good move for Texas, though, as it frees up some payroll and possibly gives Olt a shot on the 25 man.
