Thats exactly what I think they're trying to pull off. With Punk hurt, the main event scene on Smackdown is essentially Swagger, Mysterio, and Show...and instead of hotshotting Drew McIntyre into the main event picture, they refreshed him, made him credible, and even better, made him a tweener in the process. Considering how shallow things are, until 'Taker comes back there needs to be a flexible champion.

I'm not one to get hung up over these things, but they might be able to use this oppurtunity to retool and "freshen up" his look.
Kane had always gone through changes like that, but he hasn't seen one in 6 years.

I don't think his reign will be too long. It will work because Kane can just be slotted into the main event whenever and be credible. It's always been this way with him. And tbh with Swagger and Mysterio being the last 2 champs, he'll have no problems.

I don't think it will happen but I'd like to see Kane keep the title at least past SummerSlam, and ideally up until Survivor Series. Sadly, however it seems pretty evident (from my perspective, at least) that we're only going to experience a short "keeping the title warm for Undertaker before dropping it to him at SummerSlam" reign.

Kane is always built up as a credible threat, winning or not, primarily because JR, King, and MC have done a great job selling him even when he was jobbing. He's at the rare stage that he shares with HBK, Show, HHH, and Undertaker (among others) that no matter how many times he goes away or gets his ass kicked, he's always a force to be reckoned with.

HHH and Undertaker never get their ass kicked or slum in the midcard though. Still, I get your point.
He is a lot like Big Show, and HBK from his second run. I think Jericho falls into that category as well. They are established main eventers who spend a lot of time in the midcard or jobbing, but reach a bulletproof status where no matter what they're doing they can be cycled in and out of the main event at any time.

Kane is always a threat since the fans pop to see him beat the shit out of people no matter where he is on the card. Kane may slum in the midcard a lot, and not be as imposing as he was in the mask days, but I don't have a problem accepting him as a champion now or at any point, regardless of where he was a month ago

He probably wouldn't be in the position he's been in for so long/even still employed if that weren't the case. I myself just haven't cared about him in an age. I'm happy for him personally that he got it but barring a big overhaul, he's hardly about to set business alight.

He's not going to set the world on fire at all (awful pun), but in the age of two world titles I think a Kane run is overdue.
I definitely would have preferred it in 2002 or earlier, but I'm just happy to see it. Thankfully he's bulletproof with the crowd and years of inconsistent booking and bad changes to his gimmick haven't stopped the majority from buying him, I think. I guess time will tell on that but either way I don't expect it to last very long or do any real damage. So to me it's all win.
I certainly have an easier time buying this than Swagger or even Rey.

No shit. I don't seem to recall the part where I said it's a terrible business move or that the kids won't buy it. I personally (not the 99% of wrestling fans that don't post on the internet) think it's pointless and have Xero Limit 126 interest in Kane.
