Don't know how that makes sense, though. Dudley Boys use their ring names prior to their WWE run.

has nothing to do with using it beforehand, it's all about whether they sign the likeness/rights over upon signing. Wouldn't surprise me if that wasn't the case with Beth given she was a nobody/the name was worth nothing before going there, unlike the Dudleys

I guess. It also isn't like they were really pushing Beth Phoenix T-Shirts and Merch or anything.
