I thought both were pretty good although had no idea what a Cookie Puss was when Rock mentioned it.
Rock isn't going to suddenly become the TV-14 type promo machine he was over a decade ago considering RAW is now a PG show which is why he's now more of a pandering or crowd entertainer with his promos. Also think Rock fits a lot better with Punk than with Cena so both are only going to get better leading into the Rumble (and hopefully till Mania). |

What's gonna close the show at the Rumble? The Rumble match itself or Rock v Punk?
I think the winner of the rumble is either Cena or Ryback, and if it's Ryback (and he goes on to challenge Big Show) then I think it'll be Punk v Rock closing the show. |

I think you have to close the show with Punk/Rock regardless of who wins the Rumble. They have closed Royal Rumbles with title matches for less than this match (Angle/Henry) This is a WrestleMania level main event. I can see it going at least 30 minutes. They might have to cut the Rumble entry time down to a minute per entry to make it work.

It was alright, nothing more. I'd say Punk was "better."

Let's not gloss over the fact that Punk cut this promo after a grueling TLC match as well.

People who are slating The Rock on the internet tonight fucking loved his performance and they know it. They are just trying to seem cool on the Net.
To those people I say shame on your parents for raising a weird kid. |

I am a Punk supporter but...
It seemed to me like he was basically saying that he isn't "over", but still has success "despite the fans". Also, unlike some others... I did not buy Punk face to face with Rock telling him he would kick his ass. Rock looked like a towering beast over some homeless dude they let in the ring. Punk trying to look and sound intimidating is not the route to go. He's got to use his brains, not his "brawn" (because he has none) |

The best part of Punk's promo are the shots he took at Bruno and Hogan.

I wonder if Punk shooting on Sammartino was Vince's idea. Maybe Bruno completely decided against being inducted into the HOF and Vince was like "Ok. Punk, say this about Bruno".

Or maybe Punk, in an attempt to further put over his year-plus title win, decided to take aim at the guy who held the belt for a hundred years? Maybe? Not everything is about Vince McMahon being an asshole.

Anyways Punk did an amazing job of sucking the Rock just enough so that the Rock could blow a major load. The Rock did a good job of delivering the same promo he's been delivering since 1998.

People shitting on the accuracy of what Punk said and the legitimacy of his knocks against Rock need to remember... he's a heel... cutting a heel promo. It's like people hear Punk say "pipebomb" and suddenly decide "Fuck the fact that I'm watching pro wrestling, he must now speak 100% gospel as Phil Brooks". He's still playing a character.
You don't have to agree that Tyson Kidd should get more TV time... It doesn't have to make sense to you... It only needs to make sense coming from Punk's character. It's the same character that complained last summer about Cena getting all the hype and adoration despite Punk being the best wrestler in the world. The stuff he said last night went right along with it. |

Rock was off his game. They both kinda fell flat to me. They didn't really get the match over at all. They just blindly talked shit after Punk told his side of the story.
Punk has done better, but he wasn't as far from his peak as The Rock was. I notice it more in The Rock because few even get to the level on the microphone that he has. Don't think Punk is one of those guys yet. Don't get me wrong, because I think Punk is the best "full time" wrestler in the WWE. I also cite creative sucking on this. Despite what people are led to believe, these guys do not go out there with the freedom to do whatever they want. They are given framework and bullet points for almost every promo they have. They take suggestions and are told to say specific things. They don't adhere, word for word, to "the script" but they're definitely not just winging anything. It might have made it better to watch if anyone took the trouble to give that segment some direction. Instead, we got a "force fed pimp bomb, Jr." that lasted for too long. It was interrupted by a commercial because they put the promo on the wrong side of the card to try to "keep people tuned in." Didn't want people changing the channel after Rock left. Normally, this would be no problem, and The Rock would just carry the whole thing. Which, I guess he sort of still does, making this all moot, but he was just awful for a significant part of that promo and it really surprised me. I think both of them should pull their heads out of their asses and give us something better than that, tell creative to fuck off if they have to. This has the potential to be another great feud, and begins to feel as if it could also just be one of those forgettable collisions despite itself. |

Well, after having watched this promo a 4th time, it's easy to say that Rock just was so hypocritical with his first line. In retrospect of what Rock said throughout the exchange it was "CRYSTAL CLEAR" that Rock himself is "delusional". 75% of his shit is ice cream, irrelevant references from his childhood that don't play into the "modern era" (god I hope that doesn't stick), dick jokes, and catchphrases. He had nothing to say that wasn't just blatant plagiarism of the same promo he cut against John Cena
CM Punk however, may have possibly cut his 2nd best promo in his career. And there's no way Rock should walk out of the Rumble as champion. Punk never changed his composure through all of Rock's bullshit and nonsense. But there was a moment that you could see cut deep into Rocky. Yes, it was the emotional shift that was necessary to provide the lead up to the Rock Bottom but it was the absolute moment where Rock legit understood that he couldn't say anything better than what was being told to his face. The moment when Punk said that his "arms were just too short to box with God", Rock was shook as fuck. Rock wants to say Time's up? His time was up ten years ago, when he'd "done it all." When he could "go no further." When he himself "walked out on the People." Face it, Rock can't wrestle a decent match anymore. We've witnessed, it's just simple shit, arm drags, suplexes, selling, and signatures. And he's about to step in a ring with someone who has earned the right to call himself the best in the world, and proves it every chance he gets. Come Royal Rumble, there will be an ass-kicking of a lifetime. And the black sheep will walk out victorious. Or the title, 416 days, 2012, will have lost all meaning and worth. /end rant |

I love Jericho.
My thoughts on the promo... I haven't posted here for a while now, but this promo is interesting and needs to be discussed.... Punk's 15 minute speech before The Rock came out was the absolute worst I have ever herd him on the mic, ever. He was so grade school, the evil John Cena "YOUR ALL LOSERS" how lame was that? Luckily The Rock came in like a fucking beast and schooled him. He used great patience and didn't rush into his catchphrases immediately and holy shit did everything the man say have a lot of intent and conviction. The acting is paying off big time. Punk bounced back VERY well with the "I'm gonna kick your ass" speech, and brought himself up to the Rock's level, but in his own way. Overall the The Rock should kill Punk, he is so much bigger, I mean it's ridiculous. There is no way Punk could beat Rock without the Sheild unless the book this match like Gracie/Severn |

Before I get ripped for Rock love here...
I was NOT on board with The Rock last year working with Cena, I thought he played it safe and Cena won the war of the mic. Though now The Rock being more comfortable, will be more in the moment and bring new stuff to the table, as well as bringing the old to the new. Watching The Rock on WWE is like seeing "THE GREATEST STAR OF ALL TIME", it's almost unbelievable. The guy is third generation and BLEEDS WWE. It's quite moving to me, he's the fucking man. He is WWE. |

At the same time, I'm starting to detect that Rock is a little bit egotistical in that he knows everything he says will be "a hit" with the audience. The audience used to eat the shit up because he was good at coming up with these random insults they'd never heard before. Now it seems like he's just mailing it in, which I don't think is entirely his fault. While I still don't think Punk holds a candle to The Rock in his prime, I didn't see Punk not being Punk, so even if it was a little "meh" until the part where he was in Rock's face I can't really fault him as much as creative on the nature of how the thing was presented. Hopefully they get some better chemistry going, these two having a mic war could be pretty good. I think it might even pull Steve Austin out of hiding if it's good enough. Guess we'll see. |

A bit of humor for those familiar with the comic strip Calvin & Hobbes:
---Rock is the "Moe" to CM Punk's "Calvin"--- Rock: Pay me homage, CM Twinkie! Punk: Up yours! Rock flattens Punk at the Rumble Punk: I had a moral victory! |

Looking back on the Rock's 'great' promos now, it was just all racist, homophobic mocking nonsense. He's a charasmatic orator and he did that very well. CM Punk had a very good promo, up until the very end of his soliloquy where he (arguably intentionally) began to repeat himself a little.
