Tough choice mostly because of how mediocre both guys are overall. Gave the slid nod to Khali in the end.

Promo skills and character/gimmick for both were pretty bad overall.

In terms of in-ring skills, neither is really good but Roman gets the nod for being a lot more mobile. In terms of stardom, Khali gets the nod mostly for bringing the big India market to the WWE while Reigns is struggling with his rise but has a lot of potential left to surpass Khali.

I had to use some sick mental gymnastics but I've finally managed to substitute Arn Anderson for every Khali match in my mind therefore, he's had some outstanding matches and awesome matter-of-fact promos. I'm voting for The Punjabi Nightmare.

You do realize a dead guy is in the Hall of Fame, right? We're not always taking guys as they "are now." These are hypothetical fights. Hypothetically, you could be starting a promotion in India, or at least looking to get your television on there. You can shit on Khali's ring skills all you want, but if I've got a hypothetical promotion and I have a choice between Khali at his peak and Reigns at his peak (and I doubt we've seen that yet), I'd probably take Khali right now given that I want money and I'm not a racist.

Randy Savage would be on top, but Khali would be a special attraction in the States to get people into the building while Savage delivers the classic main event. Then, when I go to India, I'll have Khali challenge for my World Title whilst you continue to lose viewers pushing a guy that people despise down their throats not even knowing if he can play a proper singles heel yet. Maybe you will get lucky one day and he'll grow into the role?

(For the record, I have no doubt I will one day vote Reigns on this question, but that day has not come yet. Once he "turns heel" and becomes cool, maybe people will turn him into a babyface they are willing to get behind. Until then, you only have potential and ring work to beat Khali, but if people don't want to see that ring work, it's worthless.)

I would work out deals to get Khali in action movies as a "heavy" and then have celebrities show up at my shows in return, and one of my heels come out to threaten them because "they don't belong here." Then Khali comes out and chops the heel and everybody celebrates.

If you want to vote on Roman Reigns' potential, you have to vote on Khali's potential. Khali as Andre potential, in terms of presentation. He wouldn't be able to work as good as Andre on his best day, but does that matter to Hollywood? Evidently not. Does that matter to casuals? Only if you expose the giant. Braun is still really shit, but everybody is riding his dick because of how he is presented. Khali could be a chop. He realistically should only be beaten by a star whose work, promos and charisma can cancel out being one of the more populated countries in the world's national hero.

Okay, first and foremost I assumed the "racist" thing was a joke but you're starting to make me wonder, dude. If you're seriously saying that people are racists over this then you're just being stupid. I'm gonna continue to assume you're joking though because you've always seemed smarter than that.

Anyway, you're making the assumption that I'd choose either of these guys if I was building my own promotion which I would not. If I absolutely had to pick one I'd pick Reigns because he has the potential to at least be semi-viable in the modern world. We saw Khali be used exactly as you're saying and it still flopped. He was in movies, and if you think Vince didn't get every movie role he could for the big oaf you're a fool. Hollywood just isn't interested in that either at this point. You're stuck in the past, Noid. You still seem to think that the old style of spectacle is something people care about and it's not. What you personally see as spectacle is a massive turn off to young people who are in fact the number one demographic at the moment. You ever wonder why the action stars of the 80s died out? There are still plenty of guys that fit that mold out there but people don't pay to see big muscular morons say one liners anymore. We live in a different age and the mentality you have is the same mentality that Vince has despite you often claiming to disagree with him. You could definitely use Khali a bit better than they did, but the end result would always be the same.

Oh, and on the topic of Braun I honestly haven't seen nearly as much positivity around him as you're claiming except online (particularly here.) It's actually sorta hilarious because the people who seem most behind him are the smarks who usually back the polar opposite of what Braun stands for.

That said Braun is 1000x greater than Khali ever was. I mean again, as I said about Roman, how good do you have to be to be better than a sentient scarecrow, but still he definitely is. Even in his prime Khali never showed me anything that was ever worth a damn. I will give him points for having an actually intimidating face though. That's one thing Braun seriously lacks.

No, I'm not making that assumption -- I'm providing that as a potential tool for analyzing value. Deciding which of two talents is more valuable to a hypothetical wrestling promotion is definitely a viable method of determining who is the "Better Wrestler," since ultimately the dude you want to get is the better one.

Did Khali flop? Really? Do you just mean critically among smark fans? When he lost the belt to Batista, ratings did go up, I'll give you that, but they were higher then than they are now. And this isn't Khali vs. Batista; it's Khali vs. Roman Reigns.

Of course Khali was in movies -- that is what I am referencing. Why are you telling me things I do not know? He's got a very specific look, no shit, so there's only so many things he can do. But when he does them you promote them and you use them to generate money. If you don't, you're a fool.

Isn't Roman Reigns basically Vince's attempt at an action hero? You want to tell me they're dying out? Fine, but don't defend then defend the action hero. Spectacle dying out might actually be what is wrong with professional wrestling today. That might be why fewer 18-49 year olds are watching, and why fewer kids, proportionately, are watching than ever before. Where are you getting this information that they are the #1 demographic? And where are you getting this information that they don't like watching giants chop things down?

This was the first thing that stuck out when reading wishbone's post. We can argue whether the "big muscular morons" thing is dead or not... but it's not exactly a point for Reigns either way. He IS a "big muscular moron saying one liners" and he's doing so in a time where wrestling is watched by fewer people than ever before.

I think this is a pretty fair assessment. It's hard to build up spectacles in a week-to-week environment. Big Show is going to be considered a legend and an all-time great by the company, but consistent television exposure has done more damage to Big Show's overall mystique than most other things.

Brock and Goldberg are Vince's recent attempts at "spectacles." The Undertaker too. The guys that he only throws out there occasionally are the guys that are over.

Just to clarify I was never trying to give points to Roman. As I stated before I wouldn't want either of these two because they're both pretty awful. The 80s movie hero comparison was meant completely for Khali and Roman wasn't even factoring into that. I'd argue that the reason Roman doesn't work is exactly for that same reason though. The difference is Roman can be used differently. He doesn't have to be that 80s action hero, Vince just seems dead set on making him that. Khali can't really be used in any way except as that spectacle of a monster and I just don't buy that that is a viable long term investment these days. That's why I'd pick Roman. The dude sucks, but at least he's more versatile and if used in a proper way might be at least semi-viable somewhere on the card for longer than Khali.
