I remember I had this one friend at the time who turned out to be a compulsive liar (he's like a big shot doctor/surgeon now or something), and I remember we were talking about the original Smash Bros when it came out.

I had no idea what type of game it was but was interested from the commercials.... my friend said he had it and I asked him what it was like, he was all "Well, I was walking around as Mario and all of a sudden Pikachu comes walking out from behind some bushes like *weird noises and head bobbing*"
