Man, I love Claudio, FTR and Joe. I really should support this. Interest here seems low. I may feel best if I buy the show and then it still falls flat on its face because of TK, but I just can’t get over that hurdle. Nothing sounds offensive, but we haven’t seen any week-to-week yet. And by the looks of it, some things have already just been changed…because. Maybe a reason was given, but did they explain why Tully Blanchard is no longer with Brian Cage and has been replaced with Prince Nana? Or why he was with Jonathan Gresham? If you want to bring back The Embassy, make that a thing that happens in front of the viewers. Gresham can lose to Claudio and Nana can promise to get him back into contention. Tell a fucking story. He cannot tell a fucking story. |

My theory has always been that the AEW power brokers legitimately don’t think their shit stinks, so there’s going to be no discernible way for them to separate what is good and what sucks from either product. You’re already getting AEW creeping into this thing with Jose the Assistant being in Rush’s corner, the dropped ideas, the aesthetics, etc.
I don’t want more AEW. I don’t even want AEW. I want something else. |

Ah, ok.... looked at the results.... didn't know the world title match opened the show... assumed the world title would be the main event....

That's one of my main complaints with AEW: They blow their load super early in shows. Makes it where I often find myself losing interest as the show goes on. Was hoping they wouldn't do that with ROH but it seems like they are.
I have mixed feeling about Claudio winning the ROH title. He absolutely deserves to get a big win, but damn I feel like he should be competing for the AEW strap. I get it though, with Mox having it he can't really go there now because they are both in the BCC. This just feels like a token win he was guaranteed as part of the deal to sign on with AEW because they needed star power with the injury bug in effect. I dunno. Hope he isn't always relegated to the ROH side now because he deserves the bigger spotlight damnit. |

Starting to wonder if BCC is about to do a faction belt collector gimmick. They have both world champs now. Yuta has the PURE championship. Wonder which title they strap on Bryan if/when he is able to return.

So, the only ROH Title held by someone not under contract with AEW is the 6 man titles...
... for now. |

I get putting the World Title on first. They were going to have trouble following the Tag Titles. I mean, they could have done a big celebration for Claudio to end it, but I get why they did what they did. It’s not like Claudio vs…Bryan Danielson opened the show.
I would have preferred it if Claudio came in as a rival to Danielson. He did end Regal’s career. |

I think there’s an issue with using AEW guys in ROH. People get to see them enough on TNT and TBS. It front-loads them. No one followed Kenny Omega or Christian Cage to TNA. You’ve got to create reasons to watch those actual shows.

Could see Gresham being pissed at being the opener, as well as it being so short.

Apparently a big factor was the lack of communication from AEW. This is not the first time that issue has been alleged. Gresham couldn’t get hold of anyone important to work out what was going on. He also wasn’t happy with the time allotted for the match. He asked for his release before the show, and there’s talk that he’s done with wrestling. He deleted the account for his upstart TERMINUS promotion or something.
There was apparently something to do with his attire? I’m reading he went out in old gear that he wouldn’t normally wear to show people the “real him” or something like that? Sounds like the guy’s got a lot going on. His girlfriend gets herself into hot water a bit. He’s got more of a profile now and has to get a lot more criticism. I hope the guy figures it all out for himself. Kudos on him for standing up to Tony Khan. We don’t hear about unhappy talent asking for their release there — this might start a trend. |

Apparently Gresham was dealing with Sonjay Dutt & QT Marshall who couldn’t tell him much going into the show, because TK is the guy who makes all the decisions, but then Gresham couldn’t get a hold of TK. He went into their meeting on show day already having made up his mind he was out.
What a fucking shit show. And I see people defending TK on this based on Gresham’s size (irrelevant) and some perceived ego of Gresham, like he’s a nut for believing that ROH deserves any priority when they’re putting on a PPV. TK seems to have major problems with confrontation and being honest with guys who don’t agree with his creative vision. You have to eat it down and ask for more for Khan to have time for you. |

I’m really glad I didn’t order the show now. The news coming out about the way Gresham has been treated and how fans are ripping on him for being short and a jobber because he’s dared to speak up for himself despite the cult is getting me real down on the promotion and its fans.
It’s not just about how you treat Jonathan Gresham, specifically, and whether you think he’s a main event talent or not. It’s how you deal with people. TK needs fair weather. |

Well, Marko Stunt is white, so at least he’s covered his bases there. But seriously, this is not out of character for Tony at this point.

Maybe not, but AEW’s a leakier ship and a lot of dirt sheets go out of their way to push the “AEW good, WWE bad” narrative. This story doesn’t make AEW look particularly good, so how’s it going to sell to dirt sheet subscribers?

Gresham should be happy he got booked in any capacity at all once Tony bought the company. Guy looks like a three foot tall battle toad, it's embarrassing.
Mind you, the video of Claudio doing the spin on him is one of the funniest things I've ever seen, so at least he left some mark on the wrestling industry. |

Gresham isn't for me. He comes from an era of ROH I didn't watch. The matches I have seen are all fine, he can do all the moves but he doesn't make me care. He reeks of a Napoleon complex and has almost zero charisma or speaking skills. I could see him working out well in Japan, any company there would probably get some use from him.
In the US or Mexico though he's a charisma vacuum. And he was a bad choice to be world champion for so long because when you look at him, especially next to another wrestler you'd probably chuckle. |

Gresham would probably be better off as a package deal with his girl Jordynn Grace. They could do a Cody/Brandi type gimmick and at least the female side would be a hell of a lot stronger.

Jordynne Grace is trouble.
Gresham would be a great player/coach in NXT. I could see him as NXT North American Champion or in a good tag team. |

Even his “fired up” promos and vignettes in AEW were meh. He’s just not a charismatic guy and he has no swag. No drip. He’s just a short buff moves machine. That ain’t enough. He’s tiny compared to smaller guys like Danielson and he’s not cutting Adam Cole promos to make up for it.
I’m glad he’s gone. He’ll get better exposure in other feds where he isn’t overshadowed by guys like Danhausen, who are infinitely more entertaining. |

Reports saying Gresham basically pissed off with the creative.
I know it’s the dirtsheets but I think I’m right in thinking that if it skews negative against AEW then it should be believed. The difference in reaction from the Sasha/Naomi situation is interesting. |

I know you’re being tongue-in-cheek about believing negative AEW stories, but that’s honestly where the bias goes. That can change, but to pretend there is an even-handed approach to each promotion is just silly. WWE have the hegemonic power, therefore they’re overbearing overlords; AEW have resources but are newer, suck up to fans and are not as popular — underdogs. |

Im not a fan of Gresham as champ but I would have enjoyed a 20-30 minute bout between him and claudio.
I wonder if the short match was always planned or if it was the result of Gresham already deciding he was gone before he got to the building. |

Or if it was supposed to got longer and was cut without consulting Gresham, leading to the heat.
