They didn't, originally. Dougray Scott was initially cast as Wolverine, but he broke his hand early on. Hugh Jackman scored the role after that and wound up making himself a hell of a career out of it.

Initially, I was pretty upset too, but then I thought about it, and couldn't think of one white actor with the stature and fit that MCD had as the Kingpin. Colour aside, he looked the part, you have to admit.
