Guitar Hero 2 Rocks and Rolls Out New Tracks RedOctane confirms 12 more classics for its fret-shredding sequel. by Matt Wales UK, September 4, 2006 - While half the PS2-playing populace is staring mournfully at the bloody stumps of mangled flesh and dangling sinew where their hands used to be before RedOctane's axe-wielding rhythm actioner hit stores, the other half - you know the ones, those smug types with nothing better to do than brag endlessly about their perfect mastery of Bark at the Moon - finger-twitch impatiently for more info on Guitar Hero's November-bound sequel. Well, good news all round then as RedOctane has confirmed a further twelve songs for the game - making the currently announced roster a beefy 25 song-strong fist of rock. Fresh from the annuls of hair-thrusting history, Guitar Hero 2 is now set to include the following tracks in its line-up:

I'm still waiting for Killing in the Name to be confirmed 100%. They added it on the confirmed list at the forums due to "heavy rumours", but I wouldn't say it was in till someone confirms it.

Guitar Hero going multiplatform
Activision CEO tells investors to expect RedOctane's hit headbanging series "on every significant new format" starting next year. By Brendan Sinclair, GameSpot Posted Sep 20, 2006 3:43 pm CT When Activision purchased RedOctane earlier this year, it made no secret that it wanted to extend the company's popular Guitar Hero brand, and talked about the series' potential on new platforms. Last month, the company confirmed that it would in fact be bringing out new Guitar Hero games beyond this fall's Guitar Hero 2 on the PlayStation 2, but concrete confirmation that the series would go multiplatform was limited to the realm of rumor. That changed today as Activision CEO Robert Kotick dropped the news in a speech at the Goldman Sachs Communicopia XV Conference, confirming that the series would be arriving on new platforms next year. "[Guitar Hero] was a great IP that was really in need of global distribution and the operating efficiencies that we could bring to what was a relatively small company," Kotick said. "The longterm opportunities here include all sorts of product extensions--music downloads that are very high margin opportunities--and we'll start with the launch of Guitar Hero 2 for the PlayStation 2 this fall. And you can expect next calendar year launches of Guitar Hero on every significant new format." While Kotick didn't spell it out, the breadth and depth of the publisher's support for the Wii, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 certainly suggests that all three of those platforms count as "significant new formats" for the publisher. To date, the only service with demonstrated music-download functionality is Xbox Live, which is currently featuring pop-ditty warbler Jessica Simpson as its "Artist of the Month." However, at its Electronic Entertainment Expo press conference earlier this year, Sony let it be known that it would be selling songs for the PlayStation 3 edition of its popular karaoke game Singstar on the PlayStation Network Platform. http://www.gamespot.com/news/6157997.html |

Hmmm very interesting. I wonder if they would re-release the first Guitar Hero on the other systems or just bundle it all in one game, or just not bother.

Guitar Hero on 360
http://www.gamespot.com/news/6158861...stnews;title;2 X06: Guitar Hero II rockin' 360s RedOctane's guitar-driven game takes next-gen stage on Xbox 360; downloadable content confirmed for Xbox Live. By Tim Surette, GameSpot Posted Sep 27, 2006 2:08 pm PT The X-Plorer controller. As music has made the generational leap from cassettes to CDs, so too will music games. RedOctane today announced that the sequel to its popular Guitar Hero game is going next gen on Microsoft's Xbox 360. RedOctane and Activision, which paid almost $100 million to acquire RedOctane, conveniently timed the announcement with X06, Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Vista powwow that's currently taking place in Barcelona, Spain. The game, along with RedOctane's new X-Plorer controller, will be shown off at the event. The companies did not release any more details on the X-Plorer (shaped like and presumably named after the Gibson X-Plorer guitar), but the controller was built specifically for the Xbox 360. RedOctane did not state whether the X-Plorer was wireless or not. It is also unclear whether or not this is the Xbox 360's version of the wireless PlayStation 2 Guitar Hero controller that was listed on GameStop earlier this week. Bringing Guitar Hero II to a new platform means some new features. As expected, Xbox Live Marketplace will serve as a cyber jukebox for Guitar Hero II. "With its large integrated hard drive, Xbox 360 provides an incredible platform for facilitating downloadable content," said Dusty Welch, RedOctane's head of publishing. "We believe there is no better title to feature microtransactions than a music game like Guitar Hero II, where the content is the basis of your experience. The relationship with the Xbox Live Marketplace creates endless possibilities for exclusive content." RedOctane has not announced a release date for the Xbox 360 version of the game, but Activision CEO Robert Kotick recently said that the franchise would hit new platforms next year. The PlayStation 2 version hits stores in early November. ![]() Will probably still get it for PS2, then trade it in when the 360 version comes out, providing it's the same songs. BTW, that controler is sick. |

X06: Guitar Hero is Wired on X360 So far, you can rock, but you can't roll with the controller. by Kathleen Sanders September 28, 2006 - *UPDATE*Xbox Live's favorite, Major Nelson, reported back from X06 after trying out Red Octane's version of Guitar Hero for Xbox 360. He got to rock out with the X360 version of the sweet axe ripping sim complete with an X360 version of the Guitar Hero controller. Turns out that assumptions that the guitar controller would be wireless are wrong. According to Major Nelson: "The guitar I am wearing DOES have a wire....Not sure what the plans are for wireless and the people from Guitar Hero were not talking." IGN contacted a rep from Red Octane who confirmed that the "initial guitar controller for the X360 will be wired." The "initial" controller? Perhaps, wireless rockers can hold on to a bit of hope. ![]()

From IGN.com
X06: Guitar Hero II Harmonix's smoking-hot guitar game brings Barcelona delight. Details on the X-Plorer prototype and more. by Douglass C. Perry October 3, 2006 - RedOctane's surprise showing at X06 with Guitar Hero II created a different kind of harmony at the shooter- and action-heavy X06 showfloor in Barcelona, Spain this week. Harmonix's game appeared at the back of the main showfloor on a low stage completely playable on Xbox 360 via an unfinished gray and white Gibson X-plorer prototype and offering various songs from the sequel. Guitar Hero 2 on Xbox 360, slated for an early 2007 release date, will offer interested gamers the exact same content as the PlayStation 2 version due on Sony's system this fall (with a great extras thrown in). It features more than 55 different new songs, versus and co-op play, new backgrounds and selectable characters plus the ability to play lead, rhythm, and bass guitar lines. The preview build we saw packed single-player, co-op and versus modes and for those who dared to show their flashy fret skills, the relatively solid preview build brought back that loving feeling in seconds. Occasional hiccups on the screen didn't interfere badly enough for skilled players, and we're certain these early glitches will be worked out by next spring. The preview build didn't offer all the songs available form the 55-plus song track, but we still got to rock out with YYZ, Shout at the Devil, and You Really Got Me. Activision representatives were on-hand to discuss some of the Xbox 360 details, but refrained from many more. The Xbox 360 version will offer downloadable content on Xbox Live Marketplace after release, but exactly what the company wouldn't say. Extra songs might be bundled for a price like in Karaoke Revolution, while additional characters, backgrounds and guitars most likely will be offered for free. Again, Activision wouldn't say. It will also pack Achievements, but exactly how they will be worked into the game remains a mystery. Activision wouldn't confirm whether the Xbox 360 version will enable online play in either versus or co-op. But given the extra time Harmonix has before the spring 2007 release, there seems like a good chance online play could happen. Even if Guitar Hero II doesn't support playable online features, basic Live support such as viewable achievements, leaderboards, friends lists, and chat should be available. We wonder, though, will there be a headset jack for the guitar to talk over Live? That seems likely. And can you create your own custom soundtrack? In the past, RedOctane has gone on record saying it didn't want to dilute the quality of gameplay, so it won't permit downloadable songs to be playable. The prototype guitar body we saw at X06 is shaped like the Gibson X-plorer, and is rather unadorned with a white body and gray neck. We're not sure of the guitar will remain this same color, matching the Xbox 360's cool white, or if it will sport black, red or other colors. (We hope it doesn't remain white. Boring!) But RedOctane hopes to give each console a uniquely colored guitar, so perhaps this is the final color. The strumming paddle is placed in the center of the body, and the five multicolored buttons are square instead of circular. The prototype also features a D-pad, start and back buttons, a whammy or tremelo bar, a guitar strap, and as you'd expect, an Xbox 360 Guide button. The prototype is less bulky than the original Guitar Hero design, which may mean it's just slightly harder to rest it on your leg if you prefer sitting while playing. Activating star power is still done by tipping the guitar upward when the star meter is full. As expected, the game looks like a higher res version of the PlayStation 2 model. There are additional characters, such as King Kendall and Judy Nails, and the backgrounds are as cartoony, bright, and flash as before. The only difference seems to be they're new, brighter in color, and a little zanier in design. Of course, the game looks sharper and crisper with the higher res textures, but it won't win any graphics awards (nor does it need to). According to Activision, Guitar Hero 2 is still a one- to two-player game. There is no word yet on how many or if there will be additional guitars for sale, or what the exact date will be. Nonetheless, I'm psyched about the prospect of playing this new game on Xbox 360, though I obviously won't wait; I'll be getting this when it ships on PS2 this fall. Of course, after beating it and getting really good at it (I still need some practice), playing Rush's YYZ on 360, opening up achievements, and hanging out online should be a great way to extend the magic. We'll have more soon on Guitar Hero 2. |

Just got back from Dallas for our (EB Games/Gamestop) conference. I doubt the guitar will be wireless as when we were talking to the developer, he said Microsoft hasn't let anyone make wireless controllers for the 360, or Dance pads or the guitar either. He said that Microsoft has said in time they will allow it and he doesn't know if they will let it happen before the game, but it doesn't look likely.
