Interesting point about starter gimmicks. To me, starter gimmicks can be hot at first, and very interesting. Take Paul Burchill, for example. I'm loving his gimmick and current angle, as it has so much potential (especially in the UK at th emoment), and is very entertaining (I just love his look to the camera before his entrance, and the entrance itself, and his current belittling of William Regal).
However, all good things must (and usually do) come to an end, and Paul Burchill, once properly over, will get an even better, more natural gimmick. Maybe not a pirate, per se, but something along the lines, mixing in his amazing wrestling skills (as seen in many pre-WWE videos). He could probably end up having a cocky gimmick, self-assured in his skills and ability, and have a long winning streak, or something like that. Anyway, my point is, starter gimmicks need to be renovated once every year or couple of years or so Cena's has been modified -- but instead of being renovated, it's been watered down and parodied. |

Burchill's is easy to get out of, too. even when he's not pointing out that it's a gimmick, he plays it to the camera. It gets him over without trapping him (Eugene, Kane).
Cena got a great push out of a gimmick that wasrenovated though--Just for the worse. It needed some changes, yes, but they went in all the wrong directions, and are sticking with the renovations without looking at the blueprints. |

I'm having trouble seeing why it would be "cool" to hate Cena.

Not to mention, in their eyes, it was a change for the better. Also, the second definition is to impart vigor...Which they did... ![]() (I know you were joking, but I have this thing about people being retarded, and ya just tripped the reflex) |

I have this thing about people who think everybody but themselves are retarded. And don't correct my grammar.
![]() Renovation is not subjective. It either ends up being better, or it doesn't. Vince may have thought he was renovating Cena's gimmick, but then again, he thought the XFL was a good idea, too. |

Also, as mentioned, there is a definition which perfectly fits what happened with Cena. You're wrong, and the only reason I argued the first definition is simply the fact that your argument shows no understanding for the context of language beyond the strict dictionary definition (Which most folks who specialise in the English Language will tell you is quite often not the limits to the parameters of a word). |
