Let's be honest, this was a needlessly confusing element to throw in, and I don't think Foley as heel works well these days. What kind of reaction were you really expecting

The crowd was pretty much retarded. Vince should really stop marketing to 8 year olds.

Taz and Van Dam were the only guys the fans would have let Foley turn heel on from ECW at this point. Dreamer would have done it in an ECW city, just not anywhere else because no one but ECW fans give a shit about Dreamer.

Foley pretty much did as was thought. Heel turn, just opposite of what most people were thinking.

A normal heel turn entails a clearly defined face turning against what is thought to be "right". In this case, they took Tommy Dreamer[the "face" of ECW] and used the team of Foley/Edge to get Foley's "heel turn" over. Surprize. People didn't care about Dreamer getting his ass kicked. Most fans of ECW watched 99% of the time to see that happen anyway, no big deal.

The only logical sense this made[involving Dreamer] was to turn Foley simply off of attacking Dreamer. Didn't seem to work though, as the crowd Monday seemed to cheer Foley anyway.

I'm interested to see how they'll try to get Foley over as a heel in the weeks to come.

People complaining about the crowd aside:

1. It was unexpected. Surprising us in wrestling is often a bad thing. Wrestling is very formulaic, and not only did they do it in a way that was a surprise, but in a way that I found to be very anticlimactic.

2. Yes, anticlimactic. I'm sitting here wondering what the point of all that was. I mean, I know it was to promote ECW and turn someone heel, but what else? Most everything in wrestling has a flow, and while sometimes turns don't make sense, they usually have some sort of flow to them in the process.

3. People want to cheer Foley. This has been the case like, forever.

4. I'm betting the people who CARE about ECW wanted him to side with it.

First, it was a bad place to do the turn. The arena was full of marks/casual fans and while I usually like them (hence the username), it's a bad place to do a turn that requires a lot of knowledge beforehand.

That aside, I think it could work. If, like some people say, Mick Foley turned on Tommy Dreamer because he's actually FOR sports entertainment (made him rich, extended his career) then that makes him a heel to ECW fans. So when ECW starts, they'll have a natural heel.

Because of his history, it's really hard to get Mick Foley booed by smark fans. However, I agree with the WWE that Foley's face character is stale (whether it's funny Foley or "extreme" Cactus Jack, it's still stale). So the only way to make him a heel is to have Foley side with "sports entertainment."

I think a great way to further the turn (though they probably won't do it), is to book Foley in a match at ONS2. But Foley insists that he's not going to destroy his body for these internet nerds, and refuses to use weapons during the match. He should also pull out a cute Mr. Socko just to mess with the crowd. That way, he doesn't give a crowd any reason to mark out for him, and cements his status as a heel.

To add to your first point here, I didn't expect it coming. I must not have been paying too close attention to the news lately because it caught me off guard. That being said, yes, my friends and I were a bit shocked at first. But afterwards we were left a bit empty. My friends just looked at me with this "Explanation, please..." look on their faces, and all I could tell them was, "They must be building up for some kind of ECW feud between these guys."

Edge isn't over enough as a heel to turn Foley just by having Foley side with him. So I went from loving Foley to just not caring any more. It wasn't something that made me think Foley's a dick. Next week, he should cut a nasty promo on the fans. I think that at a minimum should at least make it feel a little more realistic.
