The thing that bothers me about McGwire is that he's being shut out of the HoF based on hearsay. People assume he took steroids but where's the proof? Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty? He may seem like an obvious user but until there's proof then it's not fair to crucify him. What if the guy was just a great slugger who happened to play in a bad period? He's the guy that resurrected the sport in the 90s and if he's clean he should be honored as one of the good guys of the game. Why doesn't he get the benefit of the doubt like Griffey, Thome, Frank Thomas or Manny Ramirez get?

I think McGwire didn't make it in because once he's in you can't take him out.. I think that's the mentality of it. I think people are just being cautious with McGwire. I do think he'll get in.

As for the argument some of you are making along the lines of 'can we be sure others never bet on baseball?' That's not what's at issue here imo. Rose did, he was caught AND he keeps changing his story and thusly loses his credibility. This raises in my mind the doubt that since he's changed his story so much what's to say there isn't more yet to be revealed.

Yeah he really fucked himself over there. I wonder if he said the things he said on the advice of someone else or if he just thought it up himself. Either way, big fuck up. Look at Giambi, here's a guy that almost everyone has forgiven, has given a second chance. McGwire should have been wise and either admitted it or denied it. Denied it if he didn't take roids, because we've all seen what happened to Palmeiro.

Exactly, thus why I think the voters have "done the right thing" and have not voted him in. If he does end up getting voted in, I'll change my view on that. Just gonna assume that isn't going to happen though, so I think Rose should be put on the ballot and see what happens. It seems to be pretty split on TPWW, I would assume the same goes among the voters and shit don't you need like 75% of the vote or something?
