For the most part, that's true of all the major series.
Pokémon was an interesting idea, because it had some A or B exclusives. The idea, of course, is to encourage trading. But since that doesn't happen, it encourages multiple copies of the game. Great marketing. On the other hand, probably a part of the reason game sales are in the shitter is that everybody's doing it. Nintendo's been doing it for longer than most of the other guys, but it's sure not Nintendo-only. |
