Finally...my first Post

Greetings to all

Some time ago, LC posted a request for a bit of background info from the new members so I thought I would introduce myself in my first post.

I live in Australia and have been an avid wrestling follower since childhood.

From the early days of World Championship Wrestling in Australia (which, as most of you know, is where Georgia Championship Wrestling got the WCW name), I grew up with Killer Kowalski, Mark Lewin, Spiros Arion (the Golden Greek as he was known then), Killer Karl Kox (OMG Not, the Brainbuster!), Jack Brisco, Mr Fuji, Waldo von Erich (loved how he used to spit when he talked – usually much to the disdain of the interviewer – no relation to THE von Erichs btw), Bulldog Bob Brower, Tex McKenzie, King Curtis, Skull Murphy, Brute Bernard, Lord Alfred Hayes, Haystacks Calhoun, Big Bad John, Ray Stevens, Abdullah the Butcher, Billy Dundee (to name just a few) – all gracing my TV screen every Saturday and Sunday afternoon.

I would watch together with Australian wrestling’s greatest fan at the time – my grandfather.

By the mid 70’s, wrestling had disappeared from Australian screens (no cable back in those days) and it wasn’t until the first Wrestlemania that Australia got some exposure to wrestling again.

Free-to-air TV picked up on the hype only mildly (generally all we got was a weekly WWF Superstars one-hour package for the week and usually at 11.00pm) until eventually, wrestling once again disappeared from our screens. The Internet wasn’t around and good luck finding a wrestling mag anywhere. My only hope was for the odd Video/DVD release months/years after the event.

With the advent of cable/satellite TV in the 90’s, Australian fans finally got what they had been after for so long – regular wrestling on our TV. And what a time for it to happen – Monday Night Wars, Attitude Era – WOW.

With the Cable & the Internet came the thirst for more information, gossip about our favourite wrestlers – which is how I found TPWW.

That was about 8 years ago – and now I’ve finally joined your forum – don’t want to rush these things.

I feel like I have known most of you for years – and in a way I have. Yes I have formed my own opinions on most of you, no I don’t always agree with everything everyone says, but hey, how boring would that be if we did.

The one common element we all share is that we have a passion for the wrestling business – even when we may currently hate the product – why else would we be in this forum. We love to watch, we love to discuss. We get high when we get a whiff of a former star’s imminent return – and yes, mark out like a teenage girl when he does. Why? Because we DO love the business.

As much as most have some negative things to say about the business at the moment, I believe that most would be very sad indeed if there was no product to watch/discuss at all. It may be cool to dis a product or a wrestler at any point, but gee, I’d much rather have RAW/Smackdown!/ECW on my screen than re-visit the dark days of my adolescence when I didn’t have any wrestling to speak of on my TV for about 20 years.

Hope I haven’t rambled on too long. I hope you will welcome me into your forum. I hope I can add some sensible input. I will not always agree with everything you may say, but I will always respect your freedom to say it – yes even you KK.
