Bob Backlund, never saw much of him till his return against Bret Hart though. Even then I only saw the occassional match with him, saw him beat Bret then I saw where he lost to Diesel. Wasn't a huge fan except for Bret at that time.

Ric Flair was NWA World Heavyweight Champion when I was born. I refuse to acknowledge there was another World Champ at that time...

Bob Backlund in 1983. Since I never officially watched wrestling until 1998, I really have no memories of him. The only thing I really know about him, even though I didn't watch, was that he basically kicked Austin Aries ass, lol.

I was born on January 12, 1982.
At the time Bob Backlund was then the WWF Champion. The only thing Bob Backlund ever did that I liked was getting pinned by BDC in 8 seconds. Also at the time Ric Flair was NWA champion who won it in Kansas City, MO the year before. The only thing I like about Flair is just about everything, Woooooooooooo! Pedro Morales was WWF Intercontinetal Champion. I don't know who that is. Lastly Sgt. Slaughter was United States Champion when I was born. He hates maggots and so do I. |

Bob Backlund, fuck yea!
How come no one uses the Crossface Chickenwing anymore? That has to be the greatest submission ever which was made even better when Backlund turned heel. I can't say anything about this man that hasn't been said before, so here's my five fav WWE champs that had the belt on Sept 21. Ric Flair Kevin Nash JBL Stone Cold Steve Austin Vacant- one day away from Vince McMahon |

Hogan was on his first run of champ when I was born. From the moment I started watching wrestling with my grandparents around 89/90 I was a fan of Hogans. I just bought into the whole Hulk character and remember marking out everytime he was on screen. During the years I started liking other guys apart from Hogan and when he left the WWF I'd pretty much given up on him. Cue Bash at the Beach. From the moment he turned heel I got back into the Hogan character, but due to the fact I hated him and wanted anyone from WCW to get one up on him.
Now a days, I'm over Hogan. Too many returns and too many "last runs". Yeah, I marked out when he came out at Wrestlemania, but despised him during that run. And the time before when he came back with the nWo, he just didn't have the same effect as he used to. Oh and Edge won his first WWE championship on my birthday, January 8th

Hogan. And I never really knew or recognized him and who he was as a child until I was 10 and started watching WCW, primarily due to Goldberg, DDP and Sting.

Although he was champ, I didn't get into wrestling until when Hogan was champion in 1984 (I was 5) I know Backlund was a great wrestler but when the WWF brought him back with that whole wholesome, good values gimmick, he was just creepy. Heard he's like that in real life. |

Bob Backlund!
Don't really know much bout his early stuff, but he wasn't much cop towards the end, seemed used for comedy more than anything. Being from England I barely cought anything pre '87 WWF. And only in the 90's did we get WCW and WWF proper. |

Hulk Hogan. I was a fan as a child obviously. I don't really wanna get into detail or anything... I'm sure there are others who will.
Also, the day of my 14th birthday was the end of Kane's WWE Title reign. And the day before, Mick Foley was thrown off the top of Hell in a Cell a couple time. Some of you may have heard about this... |

In a parallel universe Ted DiBiase was champion when I was born. Although I suppose it is possible that in that universe he was champion and I wasn't born...shit.

Hulk hogan... I used to respect him as a mark, then I hated him as a smark, now I'm like, I see a lot more in his older matches that I find interesting than I thought I would, but he's still the most overrated wrestler of all time, and has done more to damage the buisness than anyone, but probably done more to help the buisness than quite a few.

bah Hogan....
I've never liked Hogan what so ever but at the same time I do recognize that he did drag wrestling out of the abyss in the 80's and popularized it again as well as his remarkable heel work in the "hollywood" days. He's a lousy wrestler but has a bigger then life personality and charisma that very few have matched. Considering I started watching wrestling in 1998 and was primarily WWF, I can't say hogan really affected my wrestling maturity much if at all. |

Yeah, Hogan's first title reign, like most. Liked him as a child, which was pretty much everyone he ever appealed to. Fuck that guy.
Where I choose to start is when I started watching WWE, summer of 94, when Bret was champ. That one's just fine. |

Bob Backlund.
I couldn't find much specifically wrestling related on my birthday, but I did come across a blog demanding people boycott TNA for something that happened on a taping shortly before it two years ago. Apparently, Kip James parodied Brother Devon, and did so in "blackface." Hardly a big deal in wrestling, but it amused the Hell out of me.... |

What can I say about Naitch? Not a huge fan. I respect his work, and all he has accomplished, but apart from that I've never had a huge interest in him. I think the only times I've really cared about him were out of ring appearances such as 'Owner of Raw' or when he was in the corner of any member of Evolution. I just find his ring work to be repetitive, and rather than having repeated spots in matches, alot of his matches seemed too simaler overall. |

Hogan suprisingly
My first ever wrestling purchase (well, purchased for me) was a Hogan VHS when I was about 5. I was never the hugest Hogan fan though. I always leaned towards the heels, namely DiBiase and Perfect. I think this was because the illusion was shattered for me really early (namely, around 20 minutes after I had that 1st Hogan vid on Christmas Day and my 'darling' Nan thought that letting me know that 'it was all fake' whilst making a bunch of disapproving noises was the way forward) That doesn't mean I didn't like Hogan. I must have seen Hogan/Warrior from WM VI more than I've seen just about any other match. I watched that tape over and over. Today, the only time I ever really say anything bad about him is to wind up a mate of mine who is a giant Hogan mark. Sure, he can't really work and his business attitude might not be the greatest. But the whole business is a work! None of that stuff will ever mean more to me than the fun I had watching his act as a kid. And besides, people read way to much into what they hear online. Unless you were there, odds are, you don't really know shit. His timing was impeccable, he worked a crowd like no other, his crazy roided out of his mind promo's from the mid-late 80's are some of my favourite things ever and he was pretty much responsible for the boom period in which I became a fan (and still regard that as my 'favourite era') I never want to see him wrestle again (that is aimed at his condition and age, not his act) and away from the ring he seems like a bit of a deluded idiot. But this is the Wrestling forum and not Discussion. And Hogan is good by me. |

NWA Champ on the day of my birth was...Hulk Fucking Hogan!!
No seriously, it was Kerry Von Erich. Never really knew anything about the guy until he became "The Texas Tornado" in the then WWF. Even then I can't recall any of his work, even that which I've see on video since those times. |

hulk hogan won the title exactly one year before i was born
he was a major influence on me as a young fan. he was the champ for the first three years of my life and a major player long after that. i looked up to and loved that guy. it's funny because my grandparents lived next to hulk's parents down in florida when they were younger. so when i turned 9 i went to florida with them and got to meet hulk's parents. great people. pete and ruth if i recall correctly. i got to go into hulk's childhood room and see a shit ton of his wrestling memorabilia and they even gave me a preproduction shirt for mr. nanny when it was called FUCK rough stuff or something like that. my point is that hulk hogan was the fucking man when i was a kid. |
