But why does it need to have six sides? It makes every match inherently a gimmick match. I mean, it's good for the X-Division because it lends itself to them flying all over the place, but at the same time it's bad for the X-Division because you can become overly dependent on the size of your ring for quick spots rather than your psychology, if that makes sense.

In favor of TNA, the six sided ring actually is not technically larger in total area than a normal ring. It just appears that way because of the extra sides and the camera angles.
Against them, I still say that the six sided ring is a bad idea. The four sided ring is a mainstay in pro wrestling - always has been, always will be. That's like saying let's not play Football on a rectangle anymore, lets play inside a giant square and change directions of play at half-time. It's stupid. It doesn't change anything for the game/match; it's an obvious play at "LOOK HOW DIFFERENT WE ARE!" And that's a cry for attention. And anyone who's seen Britney Spears' downfall knows that crying for attention is a sign of self destruction and loathing. I think the name TNA is a bigger problem. TNATARD: Dude! You want to come over and watch TNA with me! CASUAL FAN: What's TNA? TNATARD: Total Non Stop Action! CASUAL FAN: .... no. The keyword is "lame." The name sounds like something out of a crappy 80's kids cartoon show. |

If they booked well, the ring nor the name would matter.
There's no reason to change the ring at this point, it works exactly the same as a four sided ring. It's like saying that WWE shouldn't use the 20x20 ring because it isn't the "standard". A bigger ring or more turnbuckles doesn't hurt anything, they just expand possibilities. If they ever did get shit sorted, then yes, the name should be changed - though if they've actually established the name, there'd be a strong argument against it. But the ring can stay the same. This shouldn't happen until they get their booking sorted and their priorities straight though. Last edited by Xero; 08-28-2008 at 08:44 PM. |

Old wrestlers don't die. They just go to TNA.
That used to be true for WCW. History = repetitive. |

In defense of TNA, "Total Non-stop Action" used to be simply a subtitle after NWA: "NWA: Total Nonstop Action". Don't forget it was originally an extension of the NWA organization. Once it branched off, a drastic name change would've meant certain death and a loss of what little fanbase they originally had.
When I introduced it to my wife (back when I was watching it), I called it "TNA Wrestling", not just "TNA". My wife would've wondered why I wanted to watch "T&A" so bad.

IF they wanted to revert back to a 4 sided ring this Old School v Newbies fued would be the perfect way to do it. Have the vets bemoan the 6 sided ring as non-traditional, etc and have a match with the ring at stake.
Having said that, personally I don't see a problem with the ring, especially - as many have pointed out - they have bigger problems with their booking and over dependence on gimmick matches. As for Foley, I can only hope he passes his wisdom and sound knowledge of the business on to some of the younger guys. His ability to cut a decent promo is something a lot of the talent could benefit from. |

OMFG vince Russo you are the sole reason guys like aj styles, Christian Cage, Kurt Angle, booker T, Sting, Kevin Nash, MCMG, and countless other untapped talent are seen as fucking second rate wrestlers. Solely because of your fucking dumbass booking you have made TNA a dumb motherfucking peice of shit product that I try so hard to watch but can't, even the matches are most of the time devoid of any psychology because.. THERE IS NO PSYCHOLOGY. and when they realized they had no psychology what do they do? PUT ON FUCKING GIMMICK MATCHES! FUCK IT! Fire Vince russo and Call me Gohan.

Paul Heyman was always hit or miss, and I don't think his booking would do much to bring in more than the smarks already interested in watching. Foley has a lot of experience with mainstream wrestling, but again, I'm not entirely sure that's what they need right now. \However, either would be clearly better than the current TNA format, "miss or miss." |

Foley vs. Sting - A terrible match that would bring five extra buys to their big yearly PPV - which no one knows which it is.

I do not want to see any legendary "dream" [re]matches on TNA television, because I would suffer from depression after seeing how badly they'd book it.

In Foley's defence as a worker... I know he only wrestles occasionally, but as a general rule, when he does it is a gripping feud laced with great promos and angles, and the match tends to deliver. Since he came out of retirement in 2004, I'm hard pressed to think of a bad match he's been involved with. Maybe his throwaway match against Carlito on PPV, and a couple of low profile matches on Raw here and there, but Foley hasn't had a really bad match since his broken-down days of 1999.
The years of recuperation have helped Foley, he isn't as banged up as he was during his prime as a main event drawing card. While I'm not saying he could recapture that popularity and cross over appeal again in 2008, the fact is that TNA are getting a legend who can wrestle better now than in his prime as a draw (note, not his prime as a wrestler), who can make matches seem important, who has a fantastic mind for dramatic wrestling TV, a great mind for comedic wrestling TV, tremendous promo abilities, and it's easy to forget when you consider how long Foley has been on our screens, but he's really not THAT old either. If he hadn't retired when he did, not many people would today be saying "Foley's still wrestling?? Man, he's too old!" They might say "too broken down", but doubt they'd say "too old". Plus, while guys who are older than him have kept an active career going all those years, Foley has only had a handful of matches in the last decade, meaning he is fresher than the likes of Undertaker, Nash, Bob Holly, Sting and all the older generation of stars on TV today. Whatever they pay for him, TNA are getting a bargain for Mick Foley. To them, he is priceless. |

Notice the odd one out in my list of older "stars"?
![]() To be honest, I think with creative freedom, Mick may be open to work a fulltime (as in a TNA fulltime) schedule as a wrestler. And if he does, he may not be so much the star of TNA as the star-maker, but serious consideration must be given to a high-profile run on top for the Mick. Does he still own the rights to Cactus Jack, or did he sign that over to Vince? |

Hmmm, interesting. If Foley owns Cactus Jack, and has any designs on a serious run as an active wrestler in TNA, he may be better off in that persona than as cuddly, lovable Mick.
