Was actually pretty good, better than I'd expected. Def a lot more story to this one, and it makes sense and doesn't really seem like it was just tacked on. The torture parts are short and broken up by story and flashbacks.

Definitely would recommend to anyone who's interested, but not to anyone who hasn't seen the series or at least knows something about the story.

It was a solid movie, but not my favorites among the series. The traps were decent, but not as creative Ive seen in the previous Saw's. Though I was a little disappointed in the ending. They pegged it as "you won't believe how it ends". But it really didn't seem as shocking to me as they said it would be.

Saw this today. It was good, not the best in the series, but it was good for a Saw movie. Most of the movie ties in with the others.

One complaint: Why doesn't Hoffman say "Game Over" in the end? They do it in the other Saw's, and he just doesn't do it. It's like he forgot to or something......that ticked me off.

Said the exact same thing after I'd watched it. Small, but still bugged me. And it's not like it'd have exactly been forced or anything. He had the chance and it'd have made perfect sense as Strahm is getting crushed. I was just waiting the entire time and it never happened.

Also, this movie really makes you appreciate your arm a lot more.

Everyone so far liked this?

I thought it was crap.

I like the idea of Stram going after Hoffman but it was stupid to me to have the 'players' be all like ok, let's go into the next room and do this. They definitely seemed to be volunteers more than anything. The 8 people dying in the fire angle I thought was garbage and really stretching to cash in.

And the box. I know we're getting Saw 6, but how can you not even give us a clue as to what's in the box?

Not the worst movie I've seen recently (Max Payne) but the other Saw movies put it to shame

Incidentally, the 1st thing that comes up is written by such and such... did this one have a different writer? If it did, it doesn't shock me.

It was written by the guys who did Feast which is a shame because Feast was awesome. Saw V was one giant trailer for Saw VI

The only theory I have is that it had something to do with Strahm. The only other time we saw Jill in the movie is when she thought Strahm was stalking her. But other than that, I have no clue what would be in the box.

Saw 5 was really terrible, there was nothing good about it, imo.

Loved the first Saw, part 2 was an alright sequel, but I've been meh about them all ever since.

The original Saw was the best horror movie I had seen in a long time. It was inventive, it took the conventions of the genre and turned them on their ear. Here's a killer who isn't an unstoppable immortal machine. It's a regular guy, flawed, driven to madness, taking out his frustrations on other flawed people by making them confront the mistakes they've made - creating life-and-death games in the process. If you can atone for the wrong you've done to other people, you live. you don't, you die.

And then the second movie ruined it. They took the premise of the first one, then tacked on "Oh, but we've been gassing you the whole time, so you're all going to die anyway. Lolz, made ya suffer!" So... what was the point in them redeeming themselves?

Plus, unlike every other horror movie in the last two decades, almost all of the violence was implied in the original. People's reactions to horrible acts are infinitely more interesting to me than the acts themselves. The close-ups as he saws through his own leg disturbed me way more than a gratuitous continuous shot of the leg coming off. And then in the second one... they show a girl fall in a pit of hypodermic needles? Utterly unnecessary, and from there it dipped into the torture porn that the first movie so carefully avoided.

After the second one neutered everything that made the first one amazing, I lost all interest in the series. I don't care how many more of these they make, they're not getting another dime from me.

Jigsaw said that if he was to be killed by Hoffman (after he abducted him) then Hoffman's murder would be revealed because the evidence was in a "safe place." This was a bit of insurance for Jigsaw just in case Hoffman didn't decide to join up with him. I believe that whatever is in the box is some kind of insurance to incriminate someone else in case Jigsaw died.

That was at least a year before the events of SAW V though, so its reasonable to think that the contents of the box were changed. I think that there's a third killer who will be revealed in SAW VI, probably the wife of Jigsaw.

Either way, SAW V was a waste of my time. I didn't give two shits about any of the characters save Jigsaw, and he's fuckin' dead already. The "traps" were totally predictable, there was no twist at the end, I didn't give a fuck about the guy and girl who had to give blood at the end, and the only kind of cool moment was Hoffman in the glass box while Strahm is crushed to death.

Pretty obvious to tell that this was an amateur director at work. The actors gave nothing to the film, and there weren't any shots or production work that was in any way outstanding or memorable.

SAW V: 3/10
