I was kinda thinking smoke cannons were gonna shoot up then with all the smoke, whatever "bombs"...but like I mentioned earlier, Tony runs his "sensory inclusive" stuff, like the "quiet" pyro and flames and stuff.

The bomb sounds were fine, it just needed a ton more smoke to sell the effect of a big explosion.

If the sparklers went in a downward motion, it could have created the effect of a fuse being lit for the bombs under the ring. Instead the sparklers just shot out as normal and everything ended up looking way more goofier than it should have been.

According to the Observer Radio, something like around 80% of the pyro AEW had rigged for the exploding deathmatch ended up being duds.

Not just the stuff under the ring for the big finale but also the pyro for the landmine boards around the ring.

Someone who claims to have attended the event mentioned the pyro crew was having some problems setting up the ring area in time for the match to start.

This whole situation really is depressing. Even though I was unhappy with AEW going 50/50 on the barbed wire itself, meaning the ropes wrapped instead of replaced and fake barbed wire on the outside "exploding" boards. And even though the explosions on the ropes weren't really that dangerous looking (unless you happen to be looking right into them and the flash could temporarily blind you)...


Even with all of that the planned finish would have been great with the proper explosion. I realized what was going to happen when Kingston came out and I was like "oh fuck this is a serious face turn for him" and that wet fart of an explosion made me laugh so hard. But now I just feel depressed about it. Like I feel a physical feeling in my gut.


I feel bad for AEW and everyone involved because it's truly a "Shockmaster" moment but on a much bigger scale. Immediately it made me think how at Mania 16 (I believe) WWF was going to do an exploding (or electric) cage match at with Kane and X-Pac. I believe it was set to go but when they tested it the effect wasn't good enough or there was a variable of failure that caused Vince to pull the gimmick altogether.


This AEW failure made me think about McMahon at his best, his experience and iron fist. His best days are far behind but you can't deny at one point he had the experience to limit an idea that (in all likelihood) was brought up outside of the typical WWF box.


I know Tony grew up like me with a similar taste for all things Wrestling. But it's also painfully obvious who should be calling the shots as far as creative goes. The EVP'S other than Cody really have no buisness booking matches or angles in a major way.


Kenny didn't excell in NJPW because he wrote his booking he excelled because Gedo wrote his stories and he had his own creativity within that structure.


The Young Bucks should be focused on merchandise, Kenny on the video games, and Cody who is the grandson of a plummer should be the creative in charge next to Tony.


I am not sure of Jericho's real presence backstage but he also seems to be a shot caller and maybe that's okay, but he also got Luther a job and I'm really tired of seeing him front row every time I turn on AEW.

He had a hell of a match on Raw vs Mick Foley when Dude Love was in the middle of his fued with Stone Cold over the title.

He also had a great match against Bret Hart at an ECW show about 2 months before the Screwjob.

Did you see that explosion? There’s no way they could possibly afford to do a test run. That was like 5 k worth of pyro. Easy.

cost most likely. stuff is very expensive.

i agree with you, and that's a valid criticism, but im sure thats why. there should have been a run done earlier on the day of.

the worst part of this is the humiliation of the talent. they did their jobs right. no one missed a cue. theyre stuck with their dicks in their hands looking like schmucks.

I don't blame Omega for being furious nor anyone else who was involved on-screen in that debacle.

Khan giving that excuse felt more like him taking what Moxley said post-show to the crowd and running with it as the official storyline excuse going forward. He did also mention that they did rehearsals with their explosions beforehand so something went terribly wrong with last night's setup when it got put together.

You know what I'm tired of the whole pyro is super expensive argument. No tf it isn't. I put on a small fireworks display by myself at least once and usually twice a year. I'll usually spend somewhere in the 4-500 USD range. I can get WAAAAAAAAAAY more bang for that amount than everything they used last night for that exploding ring.

All they needed really were a few of those fire fountains or w/e they use for the ring posts for Kanes entrance, some really large fire crackers, the sparklers to go off simultaneously and whatever random firework replicates a flash bang lol. Have the ring rigged to collapse as well. Done. Cost should not even be the slightest issue for some like this, especially when you have Khan's money. They should be able to have tested this whole thing multiple times for maybe a couple grand.

pyro is insanely expensive. its not even remotely on par financially with buying over the counter fireworks and thats before you have to pay for all the safety personnel involved

what went off was a garnish. the real show didnt detonate. purely speculation on my part but i imagine it wasnt a dud id wager it was the wiring wasnt done properly so it never got the cue do go boom.

M80's in a bucket would have been louder. Dry ice in an empty 2 liter that has been capped and shook would have been louder.

No fucking shit right? Saw them headline a big "fest" here in the early 2000's. They are hands down, the best stage show I've seen live. Like, Slayer pouring buckets of fake blood and shit is cool, but not a fire-breathing mask and boots that are on fire, gonna throw my guitar on fire into the speaker and make it explode, cool. Also had a fake heart that was a signal flare inside of a suit for his first song. He ripped his "own heart" out during the opening song and kept singing while holding the fireball.

I've just never got the point of it, even though Onita vs Funk was a tremendous match. The ring is completely intact. It's just a bunch of shit going off outside of the ring. What are the explosions supposed to do? It's not even a cool visual.
