Maybe more excited for the Viper and the Mountain than I was for the Red Wedding.

When the date for the new season got announced I was trying to think how many characters were left in it that I know the name of. Daenerys, Tyrion, Jon Snow, Jaime Lannister, "Jaime Lannisters sister", Jerome from "Robson and Jerome" and Arya Stark is about it.

Can't wait for this... So many surprises coming.. This should be the best season... This is where the majority of the Story's 'gamechangers' happen.

I haven't read this far. I like to read after the season concludes. I haven't read into any possible spoilers on the web either. My body is ready for next month

Yeah, I tried to do that too... but didn't have the willpower of Heisenberg. As such, I am almost done the fifth book.

The idea of waiting to read the source material so it doesn't spoil the derivative work is somewhat silly to me.

Yeah, now that I've done it, I kind of prefer it... helps me understand what the hell is going on on the show and keep better track of all the characters.

Right but it is no less enjoyable if you have read the books. In fact in many ways I'd say it's more enjoyable.

‘Game of Thrones’ showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss have been telling the press there’s an endpoint coming for the hit HBO series. They told EW that seven seasons “is the plan,” which makes the about-to-begin season 4 the midpoint of the series. To figure out how to end the series, though, they need to know how the books end, and there are still two more volumes of George R.R. Martin’s seven-volume series to be published. To get a feel for where things are headed, the showrunner team talked to Martin and went through the planned fate of every character, Benioff told Vanity Fair. Martin confirmed that he could give them the “broad strokes” of what’s coming, but that “details aren’t there yet.” And we share today the latest Season 4 trailer, which gives us a taste of each of the major characters. Season 4 kicks off April 6 (for the first trailer, see “’Game of Thrones’ S4 Trailer”). |

How are they planning to put in 4 books worth of material in 3 seasons?

I think they started with some of the book 4 and 5 things this season. You can combine those two books into one season since they don't have a lot of overlapping characters.

Book 5 has s ton of stuff in it though, and frankly I am surprised they are not milking this cow as much as they can with 8-10 seasons.

In 4 more seasons, I'm taking a guess at there being 76 more white haired, bearded, old guys introduced.

Honestly though, if they had 8-10 seasons, they'd eventually have to recast some people, due to actors growing older.
Or white haired bearded old guy actors dying. Unless there is a time skip in one of the upcoming books |

Fuck even with 7 seasons, at this pace the teen actors will be men and women by the final season.

They've already had to recast multiple people for various reasons. I don't think it's that big of deal.

But really, I don't think the age thing will matter in the show. All the children/kids started off older in the TV show than they did in the book anyhows.
