Got around to watching the Rumble earlier.
Bit surprised New Age Outlaws actually won. Bray vs Bryan was amazing. Lesnar vs Big Show was meh but not that bad considering its purpose. Orton vs Cena was boring but at the booing towards Cena and the random chants. No real confidence that Bray vs Cena feud is going to end well. at the booing towards Batista and the final part of the Rumble. Crazy how dead set the WWE is on not wanting to truly commit to Bryan as their next mega-star nor caring at how much passion the crowd has for him.

Orton v. Cena wasn't even a bad match, for real.

Just watching the replay
I really enjoyed the lesnar/big show beating. Told a story. Thought Lesnar sold the knock out punch really well. |

I'm less "pissed off my guy didn't win" and more "perplexed by the booking decisions".
There were enough people on here that realised that keeping Bryan out of the Rumble match would end with some pissed off fans, surely Vince/HHH knew that would happen too. Why put beloved and perennial good guy Rey Mysterio at #30? Why not put a heel in there so they could at least play off the boos? It's not even like DB HAD to win. He could have been #30, the roof would have come off the place - especially with the speculation that he wouldn't be in there - then you have him eliminated in some nefarious way (by Bray/The Wyatts/The Shield/The Outlaws/anyone) and Batista wins anyway. Holding him out of the match was just needless. |

Also, probably worth mentioning that if all the IWC fanboys had put their hands in their pockets and PAID for any of the PPVs during Bryan's run instead of continuing to stream, maybe Vince would have a little more faith in him.
Unfortunately massive crowd reactions don't put any money in the WWE's bank account. |

Had the buys been up, more likely Randy would have been given more credit either because he was the champion and/or because the WWE views him as more important. Since they weren't, Bryan took the full blame while the horrible booking and Randy didn't. Bryan's case is almost the same as Punk in the sense it took the WWE a long time to finally realize how popular he was and only did it because Punk managed one of the best ever years for merchandise sales for a wrestler. |

Yes but nobody is comparing them to Rumble figures. The numbers were down like for like on the previous year. Don't get me wrong, it pains me to be "that guy" quoting ratings/buyrates but you can see why WWE would be hesitant from a business perspective to go all in on Bryan.

I'm willing to believe all this support for DB is headed somewhere huge and that the WWE is just feeding the flames until the right time.I mean they just can't be that oblivious to the insane amount of support this guy has.

It's a bit like that time I got too drunk to go home with a girl and vomitted over myself in the taxi home. All just feeding the flames of lust. I did eventually get there in the end.

Just remembered that Cole said Kane had been in 15 straight Rumble matches. Didn't he miss the one where he headlined with Cena?
Unless he meant 15 straight Rumble events. |

Watched this just before. Solidified my decision to swerve wrestling. It's just all so boring now. New Age Outlaws are the most charismatic wrestlers in WWE in 2014. That probably shouldn't be the case. Was there supposed to be some kind of drama with CM Punk? Is he anti-corporation? Cause that all fell pretty flat.

I was thinking that the bad decision in all of this came back in August when the decision to put Daniel Bryan in the World Title picture first came up. It set up an expectation that WWE actually wanted to push a guy like Bryan as "the man" and that's where this all started. They could have kept him away from the title but still involved in stuff like the Wyatt angle and he'd still get the same reactions but it wouldn't fuck up other matches because the crowds wouldn't have been given the idea that he can be a WrestleMania main event caliber guy. They would have been content with him just being on the card doing awesome stuff like they were before.

Trying to figure out how a Daniel Bryan championship makes more $$ for WWE. Honestly have no idea. Making people angry over him chasing it gets more buzz.
Someone said it above: Yes! chants don't generate cash. |

Sure gets buzz but pretty soon the people screaming those Yes! chants won't be handing cash over to WWE. It's just dumb business IMO. What would people have done if they never gave Austin the ball when he was getting similar reactions? They would have become disinterested and been completely turned off.

Exactly. People who are THAT obsessed with Daniel Bryan are gonna watch the show, buy his merchandise (Maybe even MORE so) and chant loudly because they're mostly just huge wrestling nerds. Meanwhile WWE can reap the benefits while looking for way to bring in more fans.

Austin was a guy who could and did bring in a shitload of new wrestling fans. If they didn't think he had the ability to make the company bigger, they would have kept the title off of him, reaped the benefits of the rabid crowd for him that already exists, and focused on someone they thought could bring in a new audience to push as their champion.

... No. lol
Bryan DOES make money and is gonna make the company money regardless. He's not gonna sell any more shirts or get louder pops with a belt around his waist and people aren't likely to tune in in droves to see the homeless midget with the generic sounding name that they've never heard of before hold a title. And I mentioned nothing about Batista. I'm not a fan and having him go for the title at WrestleMania seems like a shit idea as well. So pretty much the exact opposite of what you just said. |

Its hilarious how they are doing everything in their power to not give the fans what they want. I guess they welcome the Bryan chants in any main event he's not participating in.

actively encouraging the chants in the opening segment of your flagship TV show knowing full well they could continue throughout is not "doing everything in their power to not give the fans what they want"
