I wouldn't be that excited about him. He's coming off his worst year and just had major surgery. No. 3 at best.

Speaking of Benson, he threw 60 pitches today in front of teams. Haven't found any reactions from the teams yet.

Mariners are also interested in Carlos Silva. Their offer is 4-yeas $44 mil.

There are mixed reports going around saying that A-Rod fired Scott Boras and signed with Guy Oseary.

Sucks that the last game of the season for the Yanks is in Fenway. Would have been a great series to close out Yankee Stadium if it was played there.

tbh I think it had more to do with the playoff expectations MLB had. In trying to decide which NY team should end the season at home - I think they figured the Yanks have a better shot at making the playoffs than the Mets...and thus, would be guaranteed at least one extra home game.

Your point being? Pitchers are all overpaid. That's not a bad deal for Carlos Silva. What do you expect him to get, 6 to 7 million per year?

Rumors are the Reds are going after Erik Bedard pretty hard now. However, trade talks between the O's and them are stalling because the O's are refusing to take any deal from the Reds that doesn't involve Jay Bruce (Minor League Player of the Year). Hopefully with Silva going to Seattle that'll take the Mariners out of the Bedard race and the O's demands will be less harsh.

Would be pretty nice if Eric Milton was replaced in your rotation by Erik Bedard. Harang/Bedard/Bailey would be pretty fucking solid. Now all you guys need is a bullpen.

Got busy overnight and today.

There's speculation going around with the White Sox sending Orlando Cabrera to the Red Sox for Coco Crisp and Julio Lugo.

Orioles and Pirates might be going after Octavio Dotel. He's pretty much the last of the reliable closers on the market right now.

Jayson Stark reports that 11 teams are involved in picking up Mark Prior. They are: Yankees, Red Sox, White Sox, Mariners, Mets, Cardinals, Padres, Astros, Giants, Reds, and Nationals. Prior is asking for a 1-year deal and is shooting for a return to the hill sometime in May.

Phillies sign Chad Durbin.

Royals sign Ron Mahay.

So... 2004, Doug M (i'm to tired to remember how to spell his name) keeps the final out ball from the WS, gives some line about paying for his kids college and he gave the last out from the ALCS and ALDS to pitchers he was keeping it and even "lent it" to the Red Sox but kept ownership...

So, where is the 2007 WS ball?

Well, Pappelbon has it... where? he doesn't know... can't find it... finally claims to have found it, get this... his... "dog ate it"... it was on his counter and his dog loves playing with balls grabbed it and destroyed it...

this is almost as good as Griese saying he tripped over his dog..

last out I think was a K and Tek gave it to him.

The Rangers trade Edinson Volquez and Danny Ray Herrera to the Reds for Josh Hamilton.

They're never going to be able to trade Junior in the offseason for anything significant in return because the health issues will always be there. The only way he'll go is at the deadline when someone desperately needs a bat and would be willing to overpay in prospects for postseason help.

Without the emotional side of Hamilton leaving, this was a pretty good trade on the Reds' part. They got Hamilton super cheap in the Rule 5 draft and swapped him for Texas' best pitching prospect. Hamilton's a nice story with a lot of upside but he was stuck in a lineup that had too many lefty hitters and really he was just keeping Bruce's spot warm for him.
