I think I might just stop looking until tomorrow now. Its a lost cause. But why would THQ release a notice today, that its out today, when its clearly not?

Feels pretty bouncy or something.

The rko seems to lack impact, no real sound of the mat being hit when he conects the move, again due to the bouncy feel it has. Yet again theyve fucked with the controls, seems harder to do a variety of moves now. Maybe im doing something wrong but right now you seem to only have 8 front grapple moves.

Perhaps the dumbest thing is you can't store a finisher. Now i know why those movies said "store your fighting style". Its referring to abilities like lashley being able to power out of pins etc. So kinda back to the old n64 days where when you powered up you had to hit it.

Loading times seem to be a good bit faster.

From what ive read its not a finisher you're storing, its a fighting style, if you do that with lashley it gives you that power out of pins move. I thought it was a finisher at first then realised once id stored it i never got the finisher prompt untill i was powered up again.

PWG: Will the storymodes be different across the systems or follow the same story arcs?

THQ: The story mode will be pretty much the same on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2 and PSP; however the Nintendo Wii and DS will each offer completely different single player experiences. WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2008 on the core SKUs marks the debut of WWE 24-7 Mode, where the player's goal is to become a WWE Legend by proving he or she has what it takes inside and outside the ring as not only a Superstar but a General Manager as well. The Wii Main Event Mode, however, is less story-driven and more open-ended, letting the player decide which Superstars they want as their allies, which brands they want to jump to and which championships they want around their Superstar's waist. Finally, the DS version of the game will feature its own unique SmackDown, RAW, and ECW storylines, allowing players to navigate freely behind the scenes of the WWE.

PWG- How exactly will the wii remote be used within gameplay?

THQ: When designing WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2008 for the Wii, it was of the utmost importance that we took full advantage of the Wii Remote and Nunchuk's unique capabilities. In fact, a majority of the Superstar's offense is done by waving the Wii Remote in the appropriate direction while holding modifier buttons to perform strikes, interactive grapple moves, taunts and finishers. It was also vital for us that the manner in which the player swings the Wii Remote matches the Superstar's movement on screen so players actually feel like they are physically a part of the in-ring action.

PWG- Will there be backwards/forwards compatibility between the three Playstation systems?

THQ: As far as the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2 and PSP versions of the game go, it unfortunately won't be possible to share content between the three systems. However, this idea is something that we've definitely been considering for future games in the series.

PWG- Will female characters and Legends be available in storymode?

THQ: Players will have to select a WWE Superstar in order to actually compete in WWE 24/7. However, rest assured, there will be plenty of interaction between them and brand new roster of WWE Legends and Divas, this year representing all three WWE brands.

PWG- What online features will be available? In terms of match types or Leaderboards etc?

THQ: Unfortunately, I can't get too specific regarding our online features just yet. However, I can tell you that up to four players will be able to settle their differences online in over 50 match types. In addition, players can let their Create-A-Superstars battle it out, put their Create-A-Championship up for grabs or just concentrate on climbing to the top of the online rankings.

Controls are different, not agreeing with the new Run button placement. Is there Stamina? If so how do you recover it? They took out Striking from Strong Grapples, though it seems the person you're holding could strike you. The Fighting Style system does add some resonance to the match, but it mostly gears toward Heel play. A Face/Hero style would work well, but it seems a Dirty fighter could also be a Showman, pretty much giving you many ways to build Spirit.

But I've had only a single match, I could be jumping the gun.

On a normal day my xbox downloads pretty fast, but this fucker has been stopping and starting all day. Even at one point froze at 53% so I had to restart the download.

Its on 95% now, so I finally might get to play....

So have they scrapped ultimate control? Or am I being a complete tard about finding it? Also, does anyone know what the different fighting styles do once you activate them?

Utimate control seems to be rb + one of the rs directions. From what ive seen it seems to vary from character to character whta direction you hit.

Actually it's rb + left/right on the right stick.

I like it so far, my only problems are the movement looking weird and how it's impossible to do Mysterio's dragonrana

Ok how about the fighting styles? I mean I activated showman as Taker, but no idea what it does. And I've stored a hardcore style as Orton, but no idea how to use it....

I've been playing a while now, and I'm loving it after getting used to it. I love how the chair shots etc look alot more painful and sicker. Anyone know how to do environmental grapples with weapons? Moves on stairs and conchairto, etc? Or is that just exreme rules?

The games not bad just seems to be a few glaring bugs. Referee taking his time to get down and count, i can imagine in triple threat matches that would get annoying as it buys some extra time for the other oppponent to get up and knock you out of pin falls.

That elbow through the table glitch is still there where taller wrestlers will get on the turnbuckle and climb higher than the turnbuckle and be standing on air before they jump.

Ai is a bit suspect, sometimes they'll just get out of the ring and stand there, other times they'll have a hard time navigating around weapons on the ground. Ive noticed that walking over a hammer or something will cause you to hit some kind of invislbe barrier as well. The commentary with cole and jbl seems to revolve around jbl babbling on like hes in a conversation but you can't hear cole for some of it, must be missing audio files to make the demo size smaller.


Presentations a bit better this year, more realistic looking character textures. Though i still dunno why some pyro effects that in real life have a loud bang (like lashleys) are watered down to what sounds like a wet fart in this game. I'll assume recording a bang must be a very hard procedure.

Also why is it some finishers like the spear have the triple replay while the rest don't?

Starting to warm upto it some. At the start it felt weird but now im getting more into it. Still love to know who idea it was to cut some of the grapples. :foc:

Have you tried Springboard move, Rey has two of them, one with the oppoenent down which is like an Pheonix Splash, the other with the opponent up is an Release Springboard Rana...Haven't tested it on other wrestlers, but I know Mysterio can do his top rope moves off the apron.

I don't know if this was posted already but I f'n loved it. I thought the Extreme Rules match was just some Hardcore Match with an ECW dressing, but this vid shows that its more faithful to ECW's legacy than the roster of the game.

I also take back my previous comment about the new Run function, the free-movement aspect works well. It appears they went out of their way to *gasp* balance the fighting engine... It may be the best wrestling engine in Smackdown's history (or SvR's history as I've noticed people regarding it as a different series).

Played a couple of matches last night and I'm really not sure how I feel about this. First of all, rant:

I personally think fighting styles are pointless. During the whole demo I couldn't see what advantage I got by storing and then using which ever one I had. Also, I thought you could change fighting styles during the match, but couldn't find how you do it, if you actually can now.

I REALLY dont like the controls, I thought last year they had nailed them perfectly, but now they have fucked with them again. It seems really awkward to try and do a running grapple, haven't been able to pull one off yet.

Again, I dont like how you can only store a fighting style and not a finisher. I guess it kind of makes sense as when you are building momentum, thats when you hit the finish, but it takes away the suprise eliment of hitting your finisher out of no where.

The taking away of UCM really puzzles me, I cant see why they have done that. Also, only letting powerhouse people do a strong irish whip is stupid.

Ok, good points:

Chair shots are perfect now, its the way they should have always been. It seems only the extra moves they can do can be done with people with the hardcore style, which is abit gay.

Dirty special move is pretty good, a low blow that looks like it really hurts.

I think I need to play it more in order to find the good amounst this game, but so far, I'm not that impressed.

Yeah it took me ages to download too. Still no disc for me though

Anyway, I agree that the fighting styles seem pointless, and I too am pissed that you can't store a finisher. Through the smackdown series its gone from storing 5 which was too much, 3 which was still too much, then to one, which was perfect, now you have to hit it on the spot, which pisses me off. Its a hard job to get someone onto the announce table etc in time for it not to run out.

Ultimate control hasnt gone, its just grappling with left or right. In other words there are 2 rather than 4. Doesn't make alot of difference to me.

I've gotten used to the controls now, and I'm really enjoying it.

Getting an urge to go and play season or mess around with CAW on it now....but I cant
