That guy is a dick. And an idiot too.....if he at least TRIED to make it look like he was attempting to catch it, it probably would be a non-issue because it'd look like an accident.

Anyone see Troy Percival last night? He got hurt with 2 outs in the 9th and had an argument with his manager on the mound...Percival has been praised throughout the league for being fiery and wanting to stay in...
yet just 2 weeks ago, Jose Reyes potentially got injured, Manuel wanted to pull him, but Reyes argued and wanted to remain in the game...ie: the same damn thing. Was he fiery? Nope, according to everyone in baseball, he was being immature. Something's quite not right here... ![]() |

Well. Nobody picked up Shawn Chacon. Astros terminated his contract, but the union filed a grievance.

Heard a rumor in both NY and LA papers that the Mets and Dodgers are discussing swapping Carlos Beltran for Matt Kemp and Chad Billingsley...lol my ass. The ONLY way that would get done is if Omar Minaya brought a gun to negotiations.

The All-Star balloting ends tomorrow, mercifully. I think what pisses me off more than anything is that they set each team's projected Opening Day lineup and that's it. Poor Carlos Quentin will be screwed out of a spot because your average fan doesn't think about using the write-in vote.

Exactly. Like I said, only way that trade happens is if Omar brings a gun to negotiations. Hell, I would swap Beltran for Kemp straight up because I think Kemp is a future All-Star. Not even a knock on Carlos, who I like but the NY pressure clearly gets in his head.
That being said, with the Mets' luck, the deal would somehow be agreed upon and Beltran would veto it. ![]() |

lol I just realized, looks like Jim Thome and his .232 batting average is gonna be the starting AL DH since Papi and Godzilla are both down. He's a distant third by over 530,000 votes

I think the rules are slightly different in MLB, for some reason I think I remember someone on the Red Sox getting injured rounding the bases for a HR and they were allowed to pinch-run for him when he was in the middle of the basepaths.
But yeah, you'd never see something like this in MLB. Awesome moment. ![]() |

Speaking of trade rumors, I heard the Brewers might have the most to offer for Sabathia. I'm hearing they will only start officially shopping him if they can't sign him to an extension by the break.

Weird coming from a Mets fan lol
Everyone acting like this is some HUGE deal, I mean its big for the Rays but its July and the Red Sox haven't had Ortiz for a while now. Pretty happy that they where able to get some runs off of Kazmir, but the pen looked like shit, 6 ER combined by Delcarmen and Hansen ![]() |

Don't really see why anyone who isn't a fan of one of the other AL East teams would root against the Rays.

Well I can see that but he said it was good for baseball which I took as its good since its a small market team with a low payroll competing with 2 of the biggest spenders in all of baseball in their division, which I think is funny coming from a Mets fan. As I think about there is other reasons why its good but that's the biggest reason that jumps out to me.
As I said I do think its good but I'd rather it be a team with a little more history or something, even if the Rays start to do good I can't see a lot of people in the Tampa Bay area starting to get behind them. Would rather see a team like Pittsburgh or something pull this off - not a team that has changed their uniforms about 8 times in their short 10 year history. |

I like when the newer teams make a big run, like the Marlins and the Dbacks cause if they don't they are just a shitty new team that is shitty every year. Ya I am a Mets fan but I realize that they are stupid and spend a ton of money like idiots. I've always liked the Rays though and I'm glad to see somebody taking a shit on the Yankees and Red Sox after 8 years.

Alright well I'm bored again so I'm gonna do what I did last year and take a stab at the all-star rosters before they are announced. Last year I did pretty well except for the pitching.
For the starters I'm pretty much going off the voting results the day before the polls closed...just gonna assume everyone that was ahead won out: National League Starting Lineup SS – Hanley Ramirez, Florida Marlins 2B – Chase Utley, Philadelphia Phillies DH – Albert Pujols, St. Louis Cardinals 1B – Lance Berkman, Houston Astros 3B – Chipper Jones, Atlanta Braves CF – Kosuke Fukudome, Chicago Cubs LF – Ryan Braun, Milwaukee Brewers (No. 4 in voting, replaces injured Alfonso Soriano) RF – Ken Griffey Jr, Cincinnati Reds C – Geovany Soto, Chicago Cubs Reserves OF – Pat Burrell, Philadelphia Phillies 1B – Adrian Gonzalez, San Diego Padres OF – Matt Holliday, Colorado Rockies OF – Carlos Lee, Houston Astros C – Russell Martin, Los Angeles Dodgers C – Brian McCann, Atlanta Braves OF – Nate McLouth, Pittsburgh Pirates 3B – Aramis Ramirez, Chicago Cubs SS – Jose Reyes, New York Mets 2B – Dan Uggla, Florida Marlins 3B – David Wright, New York Mets Pitchers RHP – Aaron Cook, Colorado Rockies RHP – Dan Haren, Arizona Diamondbacks RHP – Brad Lidge, Philadelphia Phillies RHP – Tim Lincecum, San Francisco Giants LHP – Manny Parra, Milwaukee Brewers RHP – Jon Rauch, Washington Nationals RHP – Ben Sheets, Milwaukee Brewers RHP – Edinson Volquez, Cincinnati Reds LHP – Billy Wagner, New York Mets RHP – Brandon Webb, Arizona Diamondbacks RHP – Kerry Wood, Chicago Cubs 32nd Man Fan Vote RHP – Heath Bell, San Diego Padres RHP – Ryan Dempster, Chicago Cubs LHP – Cole Hamels, Philadelphia Phillies RHP – Kyle Lohse, St. Louis Cardinals LHP – Johan Santana, New York Mets American League Starting Lineup RF – Ichiro Suzuki, Seattle Mariners SS – Derek Jeter, New York Yankees CF – Josh Hamilton, Texas Rangers 3B – Alex Rodriguez, New York Yankees LF – Manny Ramirez, Boston Red Sox DH – Jim Thome, Chicago White Sox (No. 3 in voting, replaces injured David Ortiz and Hideki Matsui) C – Joe Mauer, Minnesota Twins 1B – Kevin Youkilis, Boston Red Sox 2B – Dustin Pedroia, Boston Red Sox Reserves OF – Milton Bradley, Texas Rangers OF - Jermaine Dye, Chicago White Sox 2B – Ian Kinsler, Texas Rangers 3B – Mike Lowell, Boston Red Sox 1B – Justin Morneau, Minnesota Twins 2B – Placido Polanco, Detroit Tigers C – Jorge Posada, New York Yankees OF – Carlos Quentin, Chicago White Sox 2B – Brian Roberts, Baltimore Orioles OF – Grady Sizemore, Cleveland Indians SS – Michael Young, Texas Rangers Pitchers RHP – Justin Duchscherer, Oakland Athletics RHP – Roy Halladay, Toronto Blue Jays LHP – Scott Kazmir, Tampa Bay Rays RHP – John Lackey, Los Angeles Angles of Anaheim LHP – Cliff Lee, Cleveland Indians RHP – Joe Nathan, Minnesota Twins RHP – Jonathan Papelbon, Boston Red Sox RHP – Mariano Rivera, New York Yankees RHP – Francisco Rodriguez, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim LHP – Joe Saunders, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim RHP – Joakim Soria, Kansas City Royals 32nd Man Fan Vote OF – Johnny Damon, New York Yankees OF – JD Drew, Boston Red Sox OF – Vladimir Guerrero, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF – Jose Guillen, Kansas City Royals OF – David Murphy, Texas Rangers ------ Well I didn't put too much thought into this, but whatever. As always I'm sure there will be some ridiculous snubs. Mad 2B reserves on the AL team. ![]() ![]() Good to see Griffey and Thome with their awful batting averages will probably be starting, though seeing them hit in Yankee Stadium with the short porch should be fun. ![]() |

I heard that there's talk of letting Mariano start the All-Star game, thus ensuring he gets to pitch a meaningful inning at Yankee Stadium, and then bringing in Lee or Duchscherer to pitch 2 innings.
Frankly I think it would be funnier if we got to the 9th and Francona has to pick between Papelbon and Rivera...knowing full well that if he picked his own guy he would get slammed for it no matter what. ![]() |

Newspapers are starting to get the list of voted-in starters for the AS game, everyone that was in the lead the day before closing is starting (including Soriano in left but he'll probably be replaced by Braun). As for the AL's DH, since Papi can't go and Matsui is injured they are bringing in Milton Bradley instead of Jim Thome (3rd in voting).
Ichiro and Fukudome are starting in the OF for their respective leagues...game's gonna net bigger ratings in Japan than ever. Cliff Lee and Brandon Webb are slated to start as well (definitely thought Lincecum or Volquez would get that...hope we still get a Volquez/Hamilton matchup)...and apparently MLB is instructing Francona to pitch Rivera in the 9th regardless of score (which I'm sure he would have done anyway). Everyone else will be announced tomorrow. Last edited by Evil Vito; 07-05-2008 at 04:46 PM. |
