Has anyone else in the AL Central improved this offseason because its almost a lock for the Tigers to win that division or lose it if they screw up big time (ala Red Sox of last year)?
AL West is basically between the Angels and Rangers with the Angels a lot stronger than last year while the East could be won by anyone except maybe the Os. |

Following in Daddy's footsteps. I like it.
I don't know why, but I still never think of Detroit as a big market team. But they've got 3 $20 million a year players on their roster now. |

I didnt want Cordero cause he's worse than Kevin Gregg. I think I said something along the lines of "I can't believe they managed to go after someone thats worse than Kevin Gregg"..

Tigers are gonna have a problem that teams would kill for in 2013 in trying to get Cabrera, Prince, and Victor in the same lineup.

I feel like they're going to wind up trading V-Mart. They might not get a whole lot for him coming off of surgery but I have a very hard time seeing Cabrera switching positions again.

Evening round-up (from mlbtraderumors.com):
Well, we already talked about the big news of the day. Hat tip to Vito for breaking the news. Congrats to Splaya and his Tigers doing what everyone thought was impossible/never expected. The Freak stays in San Francisco for the time being. 2-years, $40.5 mil. O's sign Wilson Betemit to a 2-year deal with a vesting option for '14. $3 mil. guaranted, he can get up to $6 mil. Jon Heyman reports J.D. Drew is "very likely" to retire. EDIT: Tony La Russa will be back to manage the NL squad for the All-Star Game. He joins John McGraw as the only managers to retire from the game, but come back to manage an All-Star Game. |

Blue Jays tried to aquire Koji Uehara from the Rangers. But, Koji got himself a limited no-trade clause and Toronto is one of the 6 teams on his list.

Evening round-up (from mlbtraderumors.com):
MLB has granted Yoenis Cespedes AKA "The next big thing that defected from Cuba" free agency status. He recently gained residency in the Dominican Republic. Red Sox have made offers to Edwin Jackson AND Roy Oswalt. No word on developments. Reds aquire Wilson Valdez from the Phillies for Jeremy Horst. Marlins sign Austin Kearns to a minor league deal with an invite to spring training. Rockies excercise Rafael Betancourt's 2013 mutual option and tack on an option for '14. So, let's call it an extension for now. |

They dont have anyone better in the minors at this point.
Well first of all, Vlad's DH #'s last year weren't THAT much better in way more ABs (13/63/.290 in 592 ab)...Betemit got those stats in only 323 ABs..but the best part is he also had 105 Ks in those 323 AB. I used to complain about Guerrero swinging at everything that even came close to the plate but he only struck out 56 times. They've already got one guy that could K 200 times in 600 abs (Reynolds). Betemit's never had more than 373 ABs in a season (and that was 2006 between the Braves and Dodgers). The one thing they do like is that he can play every position but Pitcher/Catcher, but as it stands he will likely be the regular DH, though he will play the field to spell whoever needs a day off so he could be a regular player and get 500+ ABs for the first time in his career.. |

Josh Bell sucks, Ive seen enough of him. 2 years, 78 Ks in 220 AB, .200 hitter, 3 HR (all in 2010)..

I really do like the Os lineup..
2B Roberts(if he actually plays)/Andino SS Hardy RF Markakis CF Jones C Wieters 3B Reynolds 1B Davis DH Betemit LF Reimold I dont think the Offense should be a problem..but the projected Rotation? Guthrie (obvious #1, all the rest can be anywhere from 2-5, I have no clue really) Arrieta Britton Wei Yin Chen Tsuyoshi Wada I think Koji comes back so he can have 2 Japanese teamates to talk with on the bench lol Heres Wei Yin Chen from 2009 Heres Tsuyoshi Wada from 2010 |

Evening round-up (from mlbtraderumors.com):
Alot of the sports media outlets jumped the gun saying Roy Oswalt was on his way to the Cardinals today. That's not the case, GM John Mozeliak said he got no deal on the table for him yet. Edwin Jackson has a few 3-year offers on his table right now. Finally, new news on the Dodgers sale. Bidding has moved into round 2. Mark Cuban and the group headed by Orel Hershiser are out of the running. Notables making it into the 2nd round are Stan Kroenke, Magic Johnson's group, Joe Torre's group, and former Dodgers owner Peter O'Malley. |
