Fuck that. That is a lazy ass excuse. It's about time someone called them out on this. I've been disappointed with fighting game storylines for a while now. It's not totally necessary, but it's nice to have. And back in the day, developers at least tried.

Instead, these days we get "Abel found a puppy", "Jin is evil now, just cause", and "Gouken overslept".

And I take OXM's scores to merit, because their ratings frequently fall in line with what I think about games.

Sick and tired of people letting them get away with being lazy, just because it's a fighting game. Fuck's sake, a part of the reason why Mortal Kombat has stuck around all these years, is because people enjoy the rich mythology and characters. So it bugs me when good fighting game developers don't even try.

MK certainly has a deep story, but I could do without their need to retcon so much. SF4 was half decent story-wise. SSF4 was not even quarter-assed because the main feature was the 26789623892375678235 tweaks to gameplay and 10 more characters. Sucks, but I'd have preferred if they'd not even changed the cutscenes than the tripe we got instead (aforementioned puppy, etc).

It shouldn't be too much of an issue how well a story is written when it is a mash-up style game like the Vs series or other crossover series like MK vs DC and Smash Bros.

I can see it being an issue for a regular series because each game needs to tie to another in the series and the story plays a much bigger role for the characters depth.

Granted ive only had a day or so with this game, but so far im impressed. 'Simple' mode is really easy to use (so long as youre comfortable with the AI picking what special move to use for you in a given situation).

Pwners Manuel's roster so far looks like Wesker, Wolverine, Hulk, Ryu. Will continue to tinker and see who becomes the main 3.

I don't think so. Other than that combo, Wesker is very much a hand to hand fighter, like a faster version of Abel imo. That being said, I want to master him, but I'm not the best regarding cqc.

Looks like he may be replaced by Chris, or possibly Dante.

On a side note, I can already see Kalyx becoming lethal with X-23

And I've read some general stuff about Jill and she's totally up my alley as well. You guys are gonna love(hate) it.

- While we're imagining who will rock with who, I have a strange feeling Khuntry will rock dat green Dormammu. Maybe even have him on point instead of Zero. I think he will latch on to Trish as well. I believe he had his eye on Super-Skrull, which I didn't see coming. Thor was recently shown to have evil follow-ups after his command throw which should entice Khuntry. Zero and Ryu are a given.

- RoXer should have fun with an Akuma that moves better and has more options than usual. It's almost poetic justice that he now has a long range beam super, as well as a barrage super for up close - Akuma looks built for RoXer's KOcide tendencies and now has ways to save his own ass. RoXer made Raging Demon work in a slower game, in this game RD looks instantaneous and more punishment than trap. I see him adopting Taskmaster simply because he looks like somebody RoXer would use.

- Alva will play with Iron Man eventually. Thor looks like his type as well. Hard hitter who locks you down and all that. Alva is not a combo fiend so he may value a few well placed hits over dialing something long. He'll definitely stick with Chris.

- I imagine Drakul would have Haggar and Spencer on one team often. What I wonder is how he will balance the assists so Hagger could get in if he's on point. He will need a good projectile assist for both of them.

- Will be interesting seeing which one of us will dare to use Phoenix.
