For those who are for the WHIP over ERA, does extra base hits come into play for the WHIP? I mean, pitchers could have similar WHIP but then one dude could give up 10 more homers but have less overall hits/walks..no?

ERA is clearly the stat in terms of pitchers. WHIP supplements a great pitcher, but if you consistantly let guys on base but then clamp down
and don't let them score, you are still an effective pitcher. |

..I can see someone coming up with a revised WHIP standard that takes into account what type of hit a pitcher gives up. Kinda like some type of Slugging%

Yeah you can make up for your ERA but not your WHIP

Is there even a need to determine which stat is more important? The top two career ERA pitchers are also the top two career WHIP pitchers. I'd say the stats are pretty balanced.

all fielders are exactlky the same.
(good point) --- Hey, my Jays were down 8-1 at one point and also down 11-6 going into the bottom of the 9th. They scored 6 runs, the last on a bases loaded walk. That means they won, btw. |

Its a shame that with all the talent the Jays have had in the past several years that they havent clinched a playoff birth. I know they are in the AL East with the Red Sox and Yanks, but you think they would at least get a WC berth with the talent they have had in the past several years.

Well the Jays finished in 2nd last year, and could have given the Yankees a run for their money in September, but Halladay was hurt and I forget if Burnett was on the DL too. Either way, their rotation was hurting and it was really difficult to beat Detroit and Minnesota when they were fighting for AL Central and wild card spots.

Pitching injuries hurt them last year. This year more of the same PLUS position player injuries.

Thing is Big Unit might fall back to #3 if Clemens has more Ks than him this season when he returns.

Complete game by Wang. Did an awesome job tonight. Probably could have gotten a few extra runs if we didn't do stupid shit while on bases.
Went crazy on that bullet from Melky to home plate for that out. |

Good game all around. Starting yesterday with Clippard until Saturday with Clemens should be our rotation for a while and should be the first time in a while we actually have a complete go through a set rotation.
Cairo has been awesome at first too. Phelps was playing pretty awful at first so I think Cairo will be in there for a while as long as they keep winning. Last edited by Dragon; 06-07-2007 at 12:04 AM. |

People are starting to claim that the Yankees are slowly coming back. Winning 4 of your last 6 is a pretty decent start, but have to keep being consisent on it.

Man, Tampa's young hitters are scary good. I've said it before, if they can get some pitching they'll be the team of the future in the AL East. LOL... they should be, they've got so many #1 draft picks.
Through all their injuries, the Jays are only 2 games under .500. Not that that is the milestone they set out for this year, but it's good top see they can compete even through all the injuries. |

If you ask me, I'd say the NL is the better league right now. Way deeper pitching. All you AL fan boys can't disagree.

Schilling had a no-no go into the 9th with 2 outs left, and Shannon Stewart smacked a line drive to right and broke it up. At least they won and he got a complete game shutout. About time too.

Yeah heartbreaker for Schilling today, it reminded me several years back when Mike Mussina had a perfect game 8.2 innings through and just needed 1 k to win and Carl Everett hit a single.

A.J. Burnett had 13 Ks today, prolly his best game since he had a no hitter with the Marlins several years back.

Devil Rays got a great pitcher today with the #1 overall pick in the draft (that guy from Vandy) I was VERY suprised to see Ben Revere who plays for a rival HS of my alma mater go first round to the Minnesota Twins.

Crazy, I left for a couple minutes with a one run lead and come back and we are up by 6.
A-Rod is ridiculous. His stats in the 9th are pretty insane. |
