Intresting New Details on WWE Network.

From the Front Page...

New Details On The WWE Network Inside Here
By Ryan Clark on Thursday, September 22nd, 2011 at 12:40 PM EST

Z.Z. sent the following information in about the WWE Network. The following information came from a survey he recently took, and there is some very interesting information included about the big four PPVs (WrestleMania, SummerSlam, Survivor Series and Royal Rumble)…

Imagine a 24-hour cable network that was run by The WWE. It featured a mix of WWE-made programs, including new shows, repeats of Raw and SmackDown from USA and Syfy and “classic” or “historical” programs featuring shows from different promotions like classic WWE footage, WCW, ECW, NWA, AWA, etc. from years past.

It would have two new weekly WWE live in-ring shows (wrestling), but not SmackDown or Raw.

It would have a daily live in-studio viewer interactive show similar to SportsCenter.

Additionally, this network would include WWE’s “classic big 4″ pay-per-view events including WrestleMania, SummerSlam, Survivor Series and Royal Rumble to the lineup at no additional cost. Rather than having to pay for them, they would now be specials with the same match quality you’re used to seeing on pay-per-view for no additional cost. These 4 events would only be available on The WWE Network.

In addition to The WWE Network, you would receive approximately 30 additional channels including NFL Network, NBA TV, Biography Channel, Fox Business Network and Fuel TV.

How interested would you be in upgrading your service for an additional $7-$12 per month to a tier which would include the WWE Network described above?”

Maybe I'm not reading it right but you get those 4 big PPVs for free? Rumble and Mania for free if you have the network may be worth it just for that. Thoughts guys?

ROFL, there is no fucking way they would put any of the big four as a first run on that network for free. Zero chance of that happening.

IF they were going to do that, it would be like what they do for Mania on NBC 6+ months after the fact.

Edit: Actually, just re-read it. Essentially turning the WWE Network into something like the NFL Network. I could actually see something like that WAY down the line when PPV gradually starts to fade out because of obsoletion. But for the forseeable future, no way.

When I read that I'm like no way but the more I think about it, everyone will get this channel if that is at least remotely true. What better way to get a new channel of the ground?

Can I sign up for the month that Mania is in? Then cancel?

The $7-$12 certainly beats $60 or whatever it is.

I assume they figure if they get 2-3 million people paying 7-12 a month, its better than getting 2-300,000 paying $50 a month.

300,000 @ $50 = $15 million before the cable/sat companies take their cut, whatever that is.

So if they only get 2 million paid subs @ $7 a month they pretty much get all of that money AND the cable company doesnt get much of a cut. 2 Million is about 1/3 to 1/2 of how many people watch RAW/SD so that might be a high figure of subscribers to get..

The only PPV they'd lose money on is Wrestlemania since they usually pull in 1 million buys for that.

I could also see them doing the PPV forward, but charging less for them and having extra matches or something..

The $7-$12 is for the tier, not the channel. The money would be split between the provider, WWE, NFL, MLB, NBA and whatever other channels may be on the sports tier

Actually, the cable companies get closer to six million on 300k buys. WWE only gets about $18 off the PPVs.

Also, to be honest, I don't see 2 million people buying the WWE network. I would be shocked if they get more than 500k subscriptions. I really don't think they're strong enough for more, especially with RAW and SmackDown! not being on the network. if they were exclusives on the network, I could maybe see a million or two. But not without it, even with PPVs being on the station.

Are there any numbers to the amount of unique subscribers or people who used WWE 24/7 on a regular basis since I'd assume the WWE channel should reach about that number and maybe a couple of thousands to ten thousands more for being an actual channel instead of just On-Demand.

WWE will do their part to promote the channel enough so that actual wrestling fans won't forget about it.

I've never heard the number but I've heard it's disappointingly low.

Why don't they put the shows that get low buys on the network instead of the big four? That way they can make their money on the big 4 PPVs and they save the embarassment of the low figures for the other 9 events.

WWE are asking fans to pick from the following names for the series, which would be their answer to ESPN Sportscenter:

*WWE Power Center
*WWE Action Center
*WWE Event Center
*WWE Live Event Center
*WWE InterAction Center

Figures they'd attempt something like Sportscenter.

Kind of hope they bring back a Sunday Night Heat-like show before PPVs. Mainly recaps but with a match or two, or an angle or two setting up something for the PPV. Would be better than having a PPV with 5 matches then just randomly throwing on two matches for no real reason.

Also from PWInsider:

Sports Business Daily featured a piece today on the upcoming WWE Network, which will launch in 2012. Highlights from the article:

*WWE is telling potential partners that the network will launch in 40 million homes, a huge number for an upstart.

*Comcast is working with WWE to help them clear cable and satellite systems as part of their ongoing relationship now that Comcast merged with NBC/Universal.

*A Network head has not be named but WWE is looking for someone with reality TV experience.

*There is talk, "according to sources", of sports team programming on the Network as part of the programming aspect that would reach outside of wrestling content.

*Sucherman Consulting Group are working with WWE to help staff 200 positions for the Network.

*WWE's Michelle Wilson would not comment on any carriage or advertising commitments, citing that they were still in negotiations.

*"Most" of WWE's PPV programming would migrate to the network, although that doesn't specify whether they would air live or be replays that ran after the PPV broadcast.

Really think someone should rename this "Official WWE Network Thread".

Anyway, some news, from PWInsider:

Roddy Piper has signed on for the WWE Network's "Legends House", which will begin filming in Florida in the next month.

I just hope they continue the 'Monday Night War' segment from WWE Classics On Demand.

They really should, considering they're getting rid of that On Demand channel anyway.

From what I heard, they're going to make a whole new series for the Monday Night Wars in the same vein as shows like I Love the 90s.

I'd hope they'll move the original over, though, along with the roundtables.

I totally forgot about the roundtable legends discussion - they should definitely have that as part of the lineup.
It doesn't get updated all that often either, so it would be nice to have roundtables on a set schedule.

From PWInsider:

According to several people I spoke to today, the word at Raw was that WWE will be pushing the debut of the WWE Network back several months until the Fall of 2012.

The reason for the push back is that the company just won't have the infrastructure needed in place by the originally planned launch date of 4/1 to tie it into Wrestlemania weekend. It was described to me as a decision the company didn't want to make but one that they "had to make" for the long term good of the Network's viability.

I haven't heard of a new official launch date beyond "The Fall." While 4/1 was the original planned launch, the company never officially announced it to the public.

Probably a great decision since this time of the year is usually when the WWE enters a rush period for Mania. They can then completely focus after the rush period to work on the Network instead of just rushing it to make it by Mania's time.

Only issue is what happens with the WWE 24/7 contracts since those were set to end in a gradual process leading up to Mania and the debut of the Network. They could extend the contracts but also could risk having a few months of no money generated from On Demand to help fund the Network.

WWE has started to reach out to a number of independent talents in recent weeks. The belief among those I spoke with is that the company is looking for talents to be in the 200 lb. range.

When and how the show would be shot I haven't confirmed, but WWE is interested in the Sunlife University's gym facility in Florida, where they shot several test pilots. WWE officials loved the state of the art look of the building.

WWE is planning a Fall debut for their Network.
