I liked it better when we were given the impression Godzilla was one who they were hiding. This gives away the surprise that he's not. Oh well. Still looks fucking awesome.

Went to see Captain America today and there was a nice long trailer for Godzilla. No mention in there of Muto though.

You can hate 1/3rd of the movie and still be turned by the third act. King of monsters indeed.

Same here. Although I hated the backstory of Godzilla saying that they wanted to nuke him instead of the usual origin of how he came to be.. Stupid military. Still, the humans took a huuuge backseat in the final moments, they felt like being reduced to caricature actors with little development.

Just seen it; found it rather "blah." But, I don't particularly care for Godzilla anyways, so maybe those not indifferent to the character might enjoy it more.

Two things

1) it was tough to get over the fact that Aaron- Taylor Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen were playing a married couple when they are brother and sister in an upcoming movie. It was tough.

2) I wanted more Heisenberg.

Just watched it. Was pretty bad. All over the place. Some pretty hot monster on monster action at the end, though. That's about it.

I went in expecting a typical monster flick and that's pretty much what I got. I was satisfied but so many places that could have been made better

It was a good movie, but its no Jurassic Park.

Jurassic Park had only 15 minutes worth of dinosaur action, but beyond those 15 minutes, the horror, fantasy and direction was compelling enough to keep you glued to your seat.

Mind you, this one's not a bad watch. The camerawork, CGI and visual detailing is top notch, and the score is hauntingly beautiful. The teases build tension and anticipation, but overall, it doesn't take you over the edge. You get a very solid opening piece, but until the monsters are seen, there's little else to care about. Save for the way the final battle ends, which is probably the coolest monster takedown i could have imagined.

Full marks for creating and bringing Godzilla back to life. The grandiosity and sheer monstrosity of the creature are spot on.

I'd watch it again, but only for the Zilla scenes.

Well I liked it a slow start but maybe that was just me.

I loved Godzilla's status and treatment in this film

Dialogue needed some work

overall good film not must see but good.

While I expected this, this kinda works really well as a one-shot. This is something that can get goofy extremely fast.

I fucking loved it.

Definitely a slow burn, and that may irk some people expecting all out monster action from the start, but I personally enjoyed the build up.

Yeah, a sequel could potentially get goofy, but I think it's worth the risk to get more of this action. As long as they keep the serious tone, it should be good.

That said any guesses for Godzilla's opponent in the sequel? Another original or a Toho classic?

I'm pulling for either Mecha Godzilla or King Ghidora.

If I were writing it I would introduce an 'omega predator'; something that preyed on Godzilla's kind, returning for one last good meal now that Godzilla has resurfaced. It could even be some variation of Godzilla itself, a similar shape but larger. Godzilla's gonna need a personal challenge, and the hunter of its species would be fresh and terrifying.

Mecha Godzilla might pull in the Pacific Rim crowd, Kind a pissed I cannot find the original of that one for sale cheap, or maybe some kind of updated Hedorah to comment on todays current pollution issues.

Yeah I would go new monster. The idea Kalayx has is pretty good.

I want to know why were they bombing Godzilla in 1954? Was it just because he was a big lizard or did he attack anything? Also why did he disappear after his 1954 appearance?

That could be stuff for the sequel.

It could've used a lot more Godzilla/Muto/MUTO action. As is, what we got was really awesome. When it remembered it was a monster movie instead of a military action drama, the movie really hit its stride. It's weakness was cutting from some kick ass monster action right back to humans doing human things. As a die-hard Godzilla fan I'm always after more of the Big G. What we got...I'm ok with. Just hope there's more.
