DC Comics and NetherRealm studios revealed they are collaborating on a special Mortal Kombat X comic book meant to act as a tie-in for the game.

Something that bothers the hell out of me about x-rays a bunch of those should realistically be the end of a fight but the opponet gets up and keeps fighting
it's nitpicky to ask for realism in a game like this I know but that just bugged the hell outta me. |

Dude it's a fighting game lol. You can't honor deaths in a fighting game storyline without compromising character options for the main point of the product. The few times devs stuck to their guns people cried foul because 'fuck story, I wanna pick Liu Kang'. The devs could work around this by having spiritual gameplay successors to dead/missing characters but players frown on that, too.
Breaches in continuity in comics are egregious because comics are all about canon and such. It's a not a game where story could adversely effect my player options in a future sequel. Also, I tend to not care about game narratives at all. Especially in fighting games. Don't even play for endings anymore. |

Yeah I'm trolling when I say exactly why you can't put so much narrative stock in a game where character selection and fan expectations are important. But sure ignore me. Meanwhile the MK roster looks exactly as it would based on my thoughts on the matter, while you guys are like, "But this scene in MK9..!"

You can feel free to scroll up and reread this page to see that story is about some all people play mk for. If they start ignoring the lore i, amd others, woukd have no reason tonplay any more. It seperstes mk from every other fighter.
Its just as valid as wanting continuity from absolutely any other medium and for the past 9 out of 9 titles midway has done just that. If you arent trolling youre making double standards and either way i have no interest in entertaining either with a conversation. |

Fignuts here. Thought I'd weigh in on this subject. As for why I'm using this account, well none of your business Mr. Nosy McNositon. Anyway, I can see where Kalyx is coming from. As an ALWAYS SERIOUS BUSINESS fighting game fan, he judges games on their merits as a competitive fighter alone. And in that regard, Mortal Kombat is lacking in comparison to it's contemporaries. That said, I absolutely LOVE that there is a fighting game out there that devotes so much time to it's story and lore, without being typical shitty anime bullshit (cough blazblue cough cough). Mortal Kombat has an art style and story that is uniquely it's own in the modern fighting game world, and it's tribute to over the top kung fu movie tomfoolery and attention to narrative, is why it's such a huge hit with the casual market. And like it or not Kalyx, MK is good for the genre. The casual fans that get drawn in by that very same attention to narrative may decide that they like this whole fighting game thing, and move on to more advanced, competitive fair, thereby increasing interest in fighting games as a whole. As far as the returning characters go, most can be explained as being immortal or long living. As for the others, I have a theory. "Sub-Zero" and "Kung-Lao" have always been titles given to multiple characters in MK lore. It's possible these aren't the same characters as the last game. Even Raiden's "Where have you been Kung Lao" comment could have been taken completely out of context. As for Kano, well, his cybernetics kept him alive because VIDEOGAMES SHUT UP. |

MK has been pretty consistent with it's story and how it affects the roster over the years. When Liu Kang died, he stayed dead until the reboot. When smoke turned into a machine he stayed a machine. |
