I missed most of that era too, but I figure he worked better as part of a unit than he did as a singles worker. Seth and Dean could cover his "blind spots".

He was the big buiser / sweeper, so he was over because of that. Being in a team with Rollins and Ambrose let them cover some of his deficiencies, like promos and extended sequences. For the most part, he just had short HOUSE OF FIRE sequences.

He didn't say too much of anything and he was pretty much the clean up guy if you managed to get rid of Rollins and Ambrose he would be the guy exploding outta nowhere finally taking you down and he was good at it.
